- I love the fact that an absolutely brilliant guitarist such as Mr Albert Lee, would choose to play a version of another absolutely brilliant guitarist`s song (Leo Kottke), on keys! A terrific performance of a great song at "The Basement", Sydney August (I believe) 2007. Supported by the wonderful "Wheelers and Dealers".

An example of a great cover. True to the original with a unique spin. Like transforming the guitar arpeggios to the keyboard. And the soulful storytelling. Bravo Albert 👏
Albert is a lesson in humility. What an awe inspiring musician & human being.
A BEAUTIFUL cover of one of my favorite Kottke songs. Thank you.
Can't get enough!!!
Love this song on piano and Albert's voice.
Albert sings great, as well as being a guitar virtuoso. Great talent! He's more talented than 99% of the big names in music. He deserves much more recognition.
Albert takes this to song a place it belongs, Leo didn't put all the words into this great song Albert does not need words to create this wonderfull interpretation. Such a talent.
He is a legend absolutely awesome!!!
I agree with you! Some people never gets the recognition they deserve! Albert Lee is so good!
Love ya Albert...always a great talent, humble and REAL!
How good is this man ?,,,love it
great song
What an absolute gem! Love his voice, his guitar playing, his keyboard playing, his musical sense and most especially the fact that he smiles widest when some other musician on stage takes a break. Just a sweet, sweet soul. I so appreciate seeing someone who is so monstrously musically talented and yet doesn't demonstrates the need to always want the spotlight on them. I don't know if I'll ever be lucky enough to hear him in person but I'm going to work at it. Hard.
The nicest, kindest, sweetest, generous, non-ego musician in the business. When he is on stage he always seems to give encouraging smiles and nods to all the others playing with him. He and Dr Brian May are perfect examples of gentlemen who just happen to be world famous performers and incomparable guitarists.
So, so true :)
Wow! what a gifted artist.
Great song! great performance! A beautiful soul! thanks for the many blessings! peace & love God Bless
Too beautiful for words.
Beautiful.
Thumbs down? How can anyone mislike Albert, the most humble and kind guy in music? Folks, you don't know!
Wolfgang Markus Gstrein it's because he's still wearing that shirt lol
Hahaha ... good one!
First heard about Albert Lee from a promotion, for a gig he was having in Canberra Australia, thought he sounds like an interesting character, went along with my wife and a couple of friends, and got blown away thanks Albert hope you visit Canberra again.
such a man. prefers music to fame. on you go albert we appreciate
Thank you Topanga, that needed to be said and you said it beautifully. Albert Lee probably has more fans that are totally talented themselves. Vince Gill to name just one. -Jimmy
I love Albert and it is so refreshing to see a gifted artist who has no interest in image because he is just interested in the music..............................Simon Cowell please not : this is a true musician
OK... he's an amazing guitar player, I didn't know he could play keys as well! Mind blowing talent.!!
Albert Lee, a fine man, indeed.
Pure genius.
Albert You are big man..
GREAT INTERPERTATION OF THE SONG AND SUPER FINE ARRANGEMENT
I first heard Leo do this when he wrote it and played it at my club
Lee gives this song a profundity that Leo didnt (and maybe didnt intend) but its beautiful.
Albert is a great musician and strikes me (having seen him) as a really nice bloke, any one who disagree's then as stated before put your stuff on you tube let us know where your playing and we can all come along and cast judgement over your performance..
Merci L'Artiste pour ce bon moment musicale!!!!Thanks for posting!!!!
I had never heard of this man before. Wow I've missed out! Awesome, awesome, awesome song!. I will definately look for more from Him!
merci
MERCI L'ARTISTE!!!!!!Thanks for posting
Wonderful singing !
Absolutely beautiful, I am .a life long Kottke fan but I'm afraid to day that this is much better than Leo's versions! LOL
Both good, there's room for both.
absolutely beautiful!
errol
What an amazing version of beautiful tune and Leo's lyrical truths. Does anyone have the version Albert eludes to with Leo, Emmy Lou and Albert?
He is just a great freakin singer
Is to make you thrill!! WOoooow
Very nice indeed!!
@chryzzie
I wouldn't worry about comments like that.
Knowing Albert (and I've seen his shows many times and met him a few times), he'd laugh like a drain.
Never sure whether listening to Albert is a good thing for a guitarist. He could inspire you, or make you bin your guitar.
Genius, and top bloke as well.
Interesting take on a wonderful song. I prefer Leo's version, just because I love his guitar playing, but Albert's a better singer. Love to see Leo gettin' some love.
Puts Leo Kottke's version into a cocked hat!
Terrific post!
Song is even brought 'touchier' than Leo's original.
I love this so much, but thinking he could be arrested for stalking! Lol
malcolm... that's my drum teacher back in the early days hahahaha =]
He plays a variety of stringed instruments as well as piano, don't these multi-talented people get right up your nose ?.
I would love to purchase an audio of this very set. It is great.
@chryzzie albert is genious
If you like ALs keyboard skills listen to "Monte Nido" on his 'Gagged but not Bound' album, superb artistry. Every bit as good a pianist as guitarist, just listen.
Anyone have an mp3 of it you would sell?
what the hell does this song even mean? It's the part about her laughing and replying that I don't "get"
Jerry Foster in case you haven't been told "I told her I was back to stay" was the line before. The rest was a quote from her, not what she says from his perspective (like many songs do)
i think this could very well be a tune that Jackson Brown would be wonderful at doing if he hasn't done it yet
