Honestly, this is an incredible introduction to RM you got yourself into here. You have no idea how his music has developed over the years. He's been making music since he's 13, going from underground rap to the leader of a global group has been a wild ride and you'll see his maturing through the years through his albums- RM, mono, Indigo, and now, RPWP!!

    • @goeienacht
      @goeienacht Місяць тому +7

I honestly think it’s the most appropriate intro to Namjoon, unlike “joke” like a ton of fans like to suggest (not that it’s a bad track).

Joke was a good intro for people who are into rap but was reacting to kpop thinking kpop rappers are clowns.
It was a good intro of RM as a traditional rapper and of BTS a not at all a “boy band”.

@@HailToTheMeep I actually love his first mixtape, and RPWP to me seems almost like the upgraded mature version of that album. I love Mono and Indigo a lot too, but it always bothered me how people would say "ohh he grew up and let go of all his anger now, that first mixtape was just an early experiment, he's so much more mature now" because I think all these sides of him are good and valid. RPWP is definitely showing he still has that fire and chaos and weirdness inside him, and he can have the calm meditative soft side too. Those are all important parts of him, one isn't better than the other!

@@HailToTheMeepwhat does it dropping a few days ago have to do with what I wrote? I’m saying that this is the most intimate version of his work, so it’s so much better to be introduced by RPWP now versus “joke”, as it’s always been the one everyone tends to throw in as “the one” that shows his full potential.

This is a release that only happens when you put passion first, and don't care about money or charts or being a crowd pleaser. I would be hard-pressed to chose a favorite track since they're all so distinct. All I can say is that I was a fan of RM before, but he impressed me in the best possible way. This album is raw, singular, finely put together, and exudes musicality. It's RM in a nutshell.

RM has really excelled with this album, he has done completely different styles from his previous album Indigo which only came out at the end of 2022.
I would love if you could react to that album as well as the other solo albums of the other BTS members because it's amazing how 7 people who are in the same group can have such different styles. Specially because most of the members are really involved in the production of every song.

Thank you for your thoughtful and open minded reaction of RPWP from RM. You captured the themes in the album and enjoyed the sound production to the hilt. Give yourself a treat and watch the conversation about RPMP btwn RM and Jimin (another BTs member with incredible soloist work - check his album Face); you’ll feel proud of yourself, I’m sure
Just one observation, Come back to me isn’t abt asking for a lover to return, but it’s abt asking the “real you” to come back after lost in a crisis; it’s us to accepting life as is and live the moment. This is why it wraps the album’s thematic so well. Check the MV at your leisure
I hope you check the other 6 other members works and for BTS, take a short-cut (they have 400+ songs), review their anthology PROOF released early 2022, 2 cds: 1 contains the main singles of their albums and the other a selection from the BTS discography made by the members; Proof also contains 3 new songs.
I’m a 65+ yr old ARMY (BTS fandom) from the 1980s hiphop, punk and metal era, went eclectic with indie rock folk, renewal of Latin sounds after Carlos Santana, etc, who discovered BTS by chance and stayed bcse if the 3 rappers and now loved them 7, bcse each is an incredible original and talented artist, writer and producer. I asked who they were and here I’m. My younger 1980s punk self wud have laughed her head off, if told she’d join a fandom following 7 young Korean musicians in her mid 60s🤡

I have the same problem picking a fav: Around the World in a Day, Domodachi and Lost.
I enjoyed your enthusiam for RMs work. Many of us older ARMY feel transported back to our Uni days and listening to the college radio system and our alt music days. In addition to some of our more psychedilic complex 60/70 music. It takes on a journey and we are loving it. RM definitely let loose.
Jenna Andrews (song writer - cowriter of Butter) said people don't know of RMs executive production skills that he does for BTS in addition to all his other work he does in BTS.
"RM really doesn’t get enough credit for his world-class executive production talent. Many who aren’t ARMY tend to forget or don’t know, that on top of being an artist and performer, he’s been behind the scenes helming the sound of the biggest group in the world. A role that many across the world get cushy salaries for without the heavy burden of an artist schedule."

about the production part, it's quite tricky cause usually when bts (group or solo) releases album the credits for production and composition & lyrics are mentioned separately but in this album, for 9 out of 11 tracks, everyone is credited under "produced by". and RM has mentioned that they held a song camp for this album inviting various songwriters and producers (mostly from k-hiphop and k-alt/indie background). so i guess there must have been some reason for them to credit this way. regardless, RM was for sure involved in the composition and lyrics...that's his forte.

If you liked this, you need to listen to his other projects too: mono and indigo. mono, indigo and rpwp are all soo good, but also different. the bts members are all kinda different in their music and they all usually write and produce too, especially the 3 rappers. this diversity is already seen in the bts albums because for each album they did something new and all 7 add something to it (and they have solos on the bts albums too), but in their solo work, ofc they take this to another level.

RPWP ate so bad. Literally the album of the year and the album of my fcking life bc hello?? It's incredible.
You should definitely check out his other solo songs. He has 2 mixtapes: 'RM' and 'Mono'
And 2 albums: Indigo and this new one.
Namjoon said that he lived a dynamic live and that when he became friend with an artist, that person mentioned how contradicting his personality is, that's how the beginning of this whole project started.
Jimin (a BTS member) mentioned that in Indigo he felt that Namjoon still had something else buried and that everything came out in this album. And he's so right! I totally feel that in RPWP the explosion of freedom, conflicted emotions and inner thoughts are more noticeable. Namjoon portrayed that contradictory self really well. It felt like a story line but at the same time full of ups and downs and unexpected changes.

Hey Steven, thanks for giving this album a listen. Namjoon is such a versatile artist, but people don't want to give him a chance just bcoz he has this K-pop artist label tagged onto him, but I am glad you liked it. Like suga said, If you listen to BTS without prejudice you will definitely like it.

This is his best work to date. He finally let it free, and authenticity without monitoring goes a long way. This will be the most successful commercial project for him, even though he will find success and satisfaction more with expressing himself freely. Kudos to our leader!

Mono and Indigo are VASTLY different styles and works than RPWP, but yet still spoke to what he was going through or wanted to say at the time. I feel like RPWP harkens back to his underground rapper days as Runch Randa, and the early Soundcloud releases he would put out before BTS debuted or got any solid traction. I.e. he felt able to be as creatively expressive as he wanted to be. This is hands down my favorite work of his though from a production standpoint. My favorite songs are soooo hard to pick but: Groin, Heaven, and tie between ? (Interlude) and Around the world in a day.

I found your channel thanks to this reaction and I scanned your videos and patreon and boy oh boy are you in for ride. Each member of BTS put out phenomenal music during their hiatus. RM (Namjoon) is a lyrical genius. He wanted to be a poet but fell in love with hip & hop. He is the leader for a reason. But every member is so talented and each release shows you why BTS are the powerhouse that they are. I am here for all the chapter 2 albums/eps - Jack in the Box & Hope on the Street (j-hope), Indigo (RM), Face (Jimin), D Day (Agust D aka Suga), Layover (V), and Golden (Jungkook). Based on the couple of videos I’ve watch so far, it seems you love the hip hop elements of BTS so I’m surprised your haven’t checked out more of the rap line’s solo work. For example, Rolling Stone named Suga’s D Day the best hip hop album of 2023. I think RPWP will the best one for 2024. You have yourself a new subscriber and I look forward to the deep dive. Have you even heard the cyphers yet??? Ddaeng??? Ugh??? God I wish I could hear it all again for the first again.

Unfortunately this album is not for general public or casual listeners. This is art and not everyone knows how to appreciate art. They’re used to mainstream music. So this album will not cater to their under evolved ears.
With that said, yes the views are WAY too low. Lower than I expected. Yes YT is probably deleting views, but its views on YT are way less than streams on Spotify. We need to show RM more support! Spread his album to more musicians. They’re the ones that will see the brilliance that it is 💪🏼💪🏼

You got his first mixtape from 2015 called RM. Which is a little more like RPWP in a way. It's angrier more hip-hop elements. Then he released Mono (my favourite) in 2018. Which is a really sad album. The tracks are slower, he sings and it's just ✨️Indigo was his first soloalbum that came out 2022. That's when he started to get more artsy with the music. He has a lot more genre variations in the album and it's full of impressive features.
My favourite from his newest album is probably "groin" 👌
