Fimbulwinter seems a real possibility, especially in the winter months and especially nearer the poles where harsh winter nights can stretch out for a month at a time. It's easy to see where the legends come from in retrospect. Thank you for helping me understand them from a more cultural perspective.
There was actually a real Fimbulwinter in Norway and Sweden 500 years before Jesus. Many years without summer in a row which killed as many people as the black death did. It was like a mini Ice Age, and it cartainly is the reason why the Fimbulwinter is a part of Norse Mythology. The collective memory kept it alive through myths. I wonder how many other myths are the same.
The everlasting winter are approaching. Whether it be climate change, nuclear winter or blocked out sun after a big event, eventually the cold space out there will consume it all
It's truly a shame that we do not know any more of the Norse Gods than we do; sadly, not many sources have been found telling the myths surrounding them ;(
It was a real event in Norway and Sweden about 1500 years ago. Year after year with no summer which killed as many people in the region as the black death did.
No it's from a mini ice age that happend in Scandinavia 1500 years ago. It is estimated to have halved the populations of Norway and Sweden. The fact that anyone survived year and year with no summer is outstanding. But it's not about the actual Ice Age.
@@bluestarwarriors6380 It happend 1500 years ago in Norway and Sweden. That is where the myth comes from. It probably will happen again in some regions. The reath is always in flux.
Don’t mind me. Just brushing up on my Norse mythos knowledge before God of War PS5 releases.

does anyone know the background music
So basically the long winter would have been the ice age???
Not possible cause that would mean the myths of aesir and the vanir predate the ice age.
