IMO, if anyone is in the market for this type of vehicle... and it's in their price range... there's nothing else that comes close. They're amazing vehicles; and the 4Motion AWD system is superb.

I rented the Subaru Ascent, Honda Pilot and VW Atlas prior to my Atlas purchase. You need to spend time in the drivers seat. The Atlas wasn’t at the top of my list until the weekend test drives and many miles in each car. I feel the Atlas is far more comfortable, luxurious and capable for my needs. Seat time is what changed my mind. I’m 1-1/2 years in with my SEL and love it!

Beautiful car, my daughter owns one. Where i think VW falls short is the the front dash design, namely the infotainment layout. Not flashy enough for a $50 thous. dollar car. You look at SUV's in the low 40's and they have gorgeous dash design, ie: Palisade, Telluride, Ascent and on.

Well sell it back. Volkswagen isn’t what it used to be in its heyday of Piech (1998-2012). I can see Jetta and Tiguan as the plastic mobiles, but Passat, Atlas/Crossport et.al. need to offer a bit more for the money they charged for these offerings. Arteon is actually in the right step IMO

Excellent review. I just picked up the SE V6 with technology package last night and love it. Don’t know why some reviewers are so negative towards the VW atlas. I picked this over the Chevy traverse, which I had test driven multiple times. It drives better than the traverse and comes with second row bench seats, which I couldn’t get in the traverse 3LT. Great vehicle for a family with 3 little kids like mine.

Almost bought the 2018 Model when it came out, but no diesel option, so I bought my wife a 2015 Audi Q7 TDI. It’d more fun, better mpg, and saved me about 20k over the Atlas. Best of all our Q7 can be sold for what we almost paid for, and the Atlas I’d be upside down if I tried to get rid of it.
They do look beautiful. I’m just not crazy about the interior, because it looks pretty basic. It is newer then my 2015 Passat TDI, but there is still too much resemblance to older VW’s for my liking. I had a 2017 Passat TSI, so I got to experience the newer interior some, but it wasn’t mind blowing.
All they would change for me and I’d buy a new a VW in a heartbeat , but only if they came with a TDI. I know that’ll never happen anymore, so my days of buying new VW’s are done. I’ll be looking at Ford or Chevy in the future for my wife’s next SUV since they still offer diesels (I expect Ford to add diesel in Expedition). As for me, I’ll stick to Passat TDI’s, Audi TDI’s or try BMW diesels (535d).

The worse offender was The Honda Pilot of 2003 to 2015? Honda deliberately made the Pilot ugly and noisy. Great SUV back then. I have the 2019 se 4motion with tech pkg and I f'n love it. Zero complaints, zero issues, zero buyers remorse and I'm very picky about anything I buy. I swapped the tires to the toyo atIII's and I have a black forest industries 1.5" body lift kit coming for it just to help a little since I drive it "off road" a lot, quotes because it's not hardcore off roading just basic rocks and things u drive over to go fishing, camping, dirt biking and stuff. The atlas has hella room and turns better and I swear tighter than my toyota camry and it makes fitting a big vehicle super easy to fit in tight spaces. It could use a little extra hp for freeway acceleration but it's not bad for what it is. It actually does decent on gas too but it would be nice to have a bigger tank, it goes fast. Anyways the atlas is awesome and worth purchasing and does everything it is designed to do. I'm happy with mine.

Racing green version with same black/mauro brown interior is best color combo in the fleet... Leather seats are awesome. IS a bigger vehicle, but using custom driving menu you can use sport steering and this handles VERY smooth on city road as well as gravel... R-line version 21 inch tires too city for gravel/off roading.... Also- Fender audio system is super as well.....

    Thank You Nathan!!
The Atlas has been on my mind for a while b/c it has its own personality that I like, it's wide and has nearly 97 cubic ft. of cargo with 2nd and 3rd seats down (as a photographer I bring a ton of equip. always and I'm used to the 123 cubic ft. of my Saturn Outlook, amazing.)
Also, it has somewhat high up feeling driving and the 20 or 21 inch wheels give it a sporty look. Consumer Reports (the family bible of sort for 50 years) rated Volkswagens having "the worst" reliabilty, down there with my fav design int. and ext. Range Rover Sport BUT functionality can never be second to design. I believe this model is much better that that though having asked every owner on the road so far. Thanks again for your video!!

No way I would spend $50,K plus on something like this Atlas..Volkswagen cheaped out with this Vehicle trying to save money. Wrong move! (1)Too much cheap plastic everywhere. (2) not enough horsepower! Top trim level should have 425-500 horsepower. (3) What no power steering column adjustment??? On a $50,000 vehicle??? (4) too little sound proofing..sounds like a tin can at times. (5) what happened to the Fog lights??? (6) the leather interior is too cheaply made for a $50,000 plus Vehicle! (7) what in the H%#@* was volkswagen thinking placing a suv body on a Fwd car platform ??? Please 🤔 where is the full ladder/ Half ladder and sub Frame Rwd/Based steel frame platform??? (8) Sorry 😞 but building a premium German vehicle in the united states has caused some serious quality/ Workmanship issues that need to be addressed Quickly! (9) what is the deal with so few color choices for the interior and exterior??? That needs to be addressed Quickly! (10) lose one of those giant volkswagen bages..preferably on the rear. (11) You definitely need to have more options on wheels styling and loose the fake exhaust! (12) Need more powerful engine and transmission. options..like twinturbo V6 and v8's 10-speed dct. (13) needs second row fold down tables and foot rest' also needs twin video monitors for the second and third row. Ok..I'm done telling/ suggesting to you Volkswagen how to better improve your product.

I have a love hate relationship with my Wife's Atlas. It is a somewhat refined SUV, the infotainment system is very responsive, steering very responsive, acceleration slightly above average for this size and it's comfortable in any seat even the third row at 6' 2" 265lbs. The drawback would be the known issue they will not fix where it makes a grinding noise at low acceleration and when turning it off. @@gardenst4398 I think Explorer should be a fine choice. I haven't owned a ford product since 2004 (Mercury Sable), so I can't comment on that. But explorer is a rear wheel drive, and from what I read it's fine highway cruiser, but not much of an off roader. Also rear wheel drive has taken away some of the interior space, so I think it won't be as spacious as Atlas or the previous generation of Explorer. It has return it's root to it's related brother Ford Ranger. However, it's a mix bag in my opinion.

@Major.. Ford has extended warranty upto 8years which is peace of mind. VW does not offer Ext warranty. If Police can run Explorer 24/7 what other reliability data do we need? Yes rear wheel drive is major fun to drive like Durango, X5 etc...Ford makes good AWD too. None of these are offroader....consider 4runner or Tahoe then.

@@gardenst4398 You maybe right, so I won't dispute it. Keep in mind that US/ Canadian Police Departments has a motor pool that they are used to maintenance of Ford. VWs are used in German and Chinese Police Force for many decades. They are as reliable when maintained properly. Both Ford and VW are the largest suppliers of Police vehicles in the world. My neighbor is a big Ford guy, and he is the one that told me VW is also a very popular police car in the world. They should have a 24 hour LeMans race for world's police cars. That would be a hoot, or NASCAR race for Police Cars.

I own a 2018 Atlas, and 4 baby girls, and lack of anchors is ridicolous.
It limits you from getting safer car seats that attach to the cars anchors, thus making them safer and firm in position.
And when I saw that even with this facelift they haven't added lower anchors, I am so disappointment.

I agree that it’s a great vehicle, but it had stiff competition from Grand Cherokee and other luxury labels, all while packing less cargo area. Tiguan has almost the same dimensions as the Touareg, so if Volkswagen wants to bring it back to America, it should be brought as a fully loaded option to sit with Arteon, Golf R as a premium VW.

I shopped Highlander, Telluride, Palisade, and Atlas for month. Tried the 20 Atlas before and the 21 this time. It was 10 times better than the 20 in every aspect. Ride, interior, and very quiet. It was a better ride than all of them, the Highlander was very close but more expensive, less equipped at the top trim, and smaller.

Telluride and palisade cost more for less features. Locally the second level palisade with cloth seats is listed for $50,000 around me (SoCal). KIA is definitely lower quality. Hyundai is better than Kia in terms of material. Don’t get me wrong. I like Korean cars and their designs (I’m also Korean) but I would not buy one. My 2021 Atlas has way more features than my 2013 X5m at a fraction of the price. Very traditional German feel to it. It’s a roomy, comfortable car that doesn’t break the bank.
