Your answer to how you protect yourself is the best ive heard. NEVER tell folks what you do or know.! Love your channel. Maybe we will see ya on the road soon.
number 1 key to staying safe in life, and on a bike... situational awareness. Always know what is gong on around you, who is around you... constantly. Never get lost in your phone for 5 minutes etc... always know everything going on around you, and if something looks or seems even the remote possibility of being sketchy, then get out of there.
Jess, OMG just keep doing what you’re doing, because I love it! Positivity, encouragement, and enthusiasm. Keep challenging yourself and sharing your opinions and achievements with the YT world. Spot on about not riding when you aren’t feeling “it”. Listen to the voice in your head if it’s telling you not to ride. Especially…Don’t take any of the negativity personally!!
Wow! Coming from a devout fan, it’s nice to mix it up every now and then like this video. Riding goes in seasons, so do our lives, so should your videos. Sometimes it’s nice just to sit and watch you talk! You are an entertainer and furthering your persona and background of storytelling is absolutely magical for your devout fan base 👍 good form Jess!!!!!!
You are not only very articulate, which I love, but also very smart. So great on the traveling safely while alone. No doubt, being secretive about how, when, and where you are traveling, extremely smart! Stay safe.
I feel blessed seeing you ride through my county both in person, and in your videos. It makes my day knowing that people from all over see the beauty of Licking county
Great video! I just upgraded my Yamaha TW200 to a Honda 300L. LOVE the 300! Great on dirt/gravel paths but peppy enough for the highway. Nicely priced for a brand new one too!!
I enjoyed that, listening to you in the background whilst working. I think as I’ve said before “don’t change what you do and how you do it” all the very best to you and hubby.
Jess if you really want a light go anywhere bike then consider the Honda crf rally 300. I follow itchy boots, she is currently in South America on her way north to Alaska and she has one. It seams to be an awesome machine!
If you find you're current rubber ring to be lacking. I would like to recommend Groove Life rings. I bought one after my original tungsten wedding ring was damaged and dang near took my finger off at work. I've had the GL ring for 4 years now and it's the best. No seating or tearing or other issues. They're about $30 and have a lifetime warranty.
Good job on the first question Jess. On the question about a Dual Sport motorcycle my suggestion would be a used 250 or some where in that size. Like a Suzuki 200 or the Honda CRF230L if you can find one. They only made the 230L for 2 years. Also Yamaha 250 or the TW200. I know you have ridden mostly big heavy bikes but as you found out ridding the new Honda Navi they are a lot of fun. Most of the bikes I have mentioned here have low seat heights and as long as you don't get on the freeway with them they will go 60 mph. I rode my CRF230L across Highway 2 in Washington State to pick up my truck that was 180 miles away with out any major problems. These small Dual Sport bikes are cheap to run and get parts for and they are tough as nails. So when you drop one it is no big deal. Just make Shure you put a skid plate and hand guards on them and where all your protective gear.
I'm with you on your recommendations John. I have a 910 lb HD Ultra Limited as well as a 240 pound Kawasaki KLR250. Sometimes the little KLR250 with its increased manueverability is the more fun bike to ride on a nice weather day.
Fellow Ohioan here and lone rider. Your channel showed up in my feed. Really good informative video. I enjoyed your answers to all these questions. Thank You.
I ride with 18 buddies and their MOM & DAD She is Ms. Smith and he is Mr. Wesson. I just enjoy my group riding. Seriously! I love to ride alone also. I get to a crossroads and at that moment I decide to either turn left or right, no stress and no rush! stop when I want and ride as long as I want to. ride safe and keep enjoying life because it goes by fast as Helllllll. I started at 16yrs old, I am now 74yrs old and now riding an Indian scout 60 2022. PS I sold my Harley Dyna super glide custom because it got a bit heavy for me to handle safely! my new Bike is low and light and fast and I can handle it, which is just what I wanted. Blessings to you and your Husband and many wonderful years of riding as I have had up until now and hopefully a few more yrs. :)
My wife has the wedding ring issue. She actually puts her main one away and uses a generic ring. I tried the rubber ring but it just fell off over time due to the chemicals I use as a mechanic. If I was nearby i'd help with the trees. Ride safe and tell Jordan nice job of the garage.
I'm a truck driver getting pretty good usability out of my rubber ring, But my hands stay a lot cleaner. Always told the wife that if the rubber band didn't work I'd get a tattoo
Smart lady. I'm a retired peace officer and 78 years old. Seen a lot of bad things. Be careful and be safe always. I've also ridden two wheels since high school (class of `62)
Great tips. We have to take the days we can get in the central states. Got up to 51 today so I took an hour ride. Tomorrow we are in for 9-10 inches of snow. That will put the brakes on riding for a while. If I’m not in the mood to ride usually opening the garage door and looking at my bike will do it. If not I grab the key and start it up. Mood is set after that. 👍
Hello Jess. I just found your UA-cam and think your awesome. Your just very cool and free. For me and where I am in my life it is very refreshing to see someone beautiful, adventurous, a great mix of grit and pretty. Very knowledgeable and communicate so down to earth. I've watched several of your videos. I was a rider many years ago but stopped due to an accident. Now I want to try again and hope to find that joy and freedom. New people and new experiences and make new memories. A lot of people follow you for many reasons but know that some see so much more than motorcycles. However your critiques are thorough and informative. You are very cool. Your world you video is exiting. Regarding your target market...just be yourself and your target market will define itself and find you. Thanks for doing what you do...
Re. wedding rings: A lot of people who work around machinery, with tools, or outside in cold weather choose not to wear a traditional gold (or other metal) ring. My dad was a chopper pilot who did a lot of work on his own helicopter... he never wore one, for as long as I can remember. It was put away in a drawer, and was passed down to me when I got married. I wear it daily. Today, my wife is a field engineer in heavy construction... she doesn't wear hers, either. A number of years ago, when I was working in a food processing plant, the wearing by employees and contractors of ANY jewellery above the waist was (and remains to this day) strictly forbidden. The advent of the silicon rings has allowed many people a safe and comfortable alternative, and they only wear their "formal" wedding ring for special occasions. And don't try to tell us you're not crazy... you're friends with Josh and Chey, and an outrider of the Shadetree Army, and that don't come without a healthy dose of crazy!
Just subbed, I have been a ridder for about X years. My whole life I guess, on the street for over 35 years. I have ridden off road since almost as long as I can remember. I had a really lucky life, my block was a dead end street that was inhabited by almost all family members or friends of family. It was really a dream neighborhood. I now have a 2021 BRP Spyder F-3S. It is a 3 wheel bike with 2 wheels in the front and 1 in the back. It is really fast and has traction control stability control, cruse control. I really like it, can’t wait for some warmer weather. Winter in the Midwest sucks. Come on spring!
I myself normally ride with a few friends, normally if I ride by myself it's just buzzing around town, but I always carry my cell phone 👍 Jess thanks for the work you do for all of us.
Don’t worry about what others think or say about you……you are beautiful, you are smart, and you definitely matter. Keep making great content because the people that follow you enjoy it! Stay safe and thanks for being YOU!
My wedding band was lost in the house 6 years ago, my 6 year old daughter brought me some of her costume jewelry. ( rings) I have been wearing a silver band with dolphins cut into it for these past 6 years. ( my wife found my wedding band a few weeks after it was lost) my daughter bought the ring she gave me for $1 and it means more to me, than any high value jewelry. Love the rubber ring idea. Thanks for sharing your videos with all of us and screw any of the haters online.
As an OG that mostly travels with Nana on the back, pulling a trailer cross country. We’ve had incidents on the road. We’re prepared to scale up to whatever level the threat presents. There really are some bad people out. On a positive note, vast majority of people are excellent, old folks riding a big scooter often leads to some great conversations with strangers on the road.
I bought a new Royal Enfield Interceptor. 650 cc. Love it as a great little run around bike. Looks like classic bike from the 70’s with all the new amenities. Good change of pace from a bigger bike which I have had in the past.
Right? I was thinking that too. When you get your favorites and you have a few, why do people waste their life throwing unnecessary energy for no reason? And what on earth could they possibly find to criticize about Jess?! There's just nothing. Karma gets 'em 😉
I totally understand the wearing the wedding ring problem. I was having a hell of a time with my ring turning within my gloves and poking me & tearing up glove liners. I now have another flat wedding ring that we got specifically for when I'm riding.
My wife rides a Ducati Scrambler. She is 5'7". She hasn't ridden it on dirt though. I've put about 75 miles of dirt roads with it. I have a few videos of it, as well as her riding it.
Safety is so important. Glad you are keeping that as a top priority. Learning to let it go - congratulations! I learned a long time ago not to wear jewelry when working on equipment and the lesson stuck. So, I don't wear any jewelry, or even a watch. Like you and Jordan, the wife and I know we are married and the display of a ring doesn't change that. And, like you, she has her own internet presence where she gets to deal with many of the same concerns you have. Happy riding and stay save out there.
Young lady, that was very cool. Allot of real questions and answers. I would agree some of the most beautiful rides are on your side of the country. But here in New Mexico, we have some pretty awesome ones as well. If you ever make it this way, I would be happy to ride with you. It would be an honor. If you are this way, and find yourself in a crappy situation, give a shout. I got your back, that goes for anyone here that makes it this way! Rubber side down all, much love and respect to everyone. Thank you Jess for the awesome content. Hope you and the hubby get to do an epic ride together.
Great video, Jess. Loved learning more about you. It was so awesome to meet you this year (IMS SoCal)! Love your goal for 2022! Congrats on all of your success.
I felt the same way about off-roading. Was watching many adventure bike videos and camping videos, and I found a great Ducati Multistrada 1200, thinking that I would hit the road and trail like so many others. I loved this bike, how it handled, looked, all of the features. I road on several trails and put about 5000 miles on it, popping wheelies, fishtailing on the dirt, and all that. I found that I prefer to keep the bike under better control and not on the edge of disaster! I had another bike too at the time, a previous generation Honda Goldwing, and decided to stick with the touring style and folded both bikes into a 21 Goldwing. I still like the idea of off-roading so maybe a smaller adventure bike may be in my future, but not for the long distance tour.
I too! Love to travel alone, and at any cross road I will at that moment make my choice as to which way I will go! also, I take my breaks and stop when I want! I just love to get on my Bike and ride it until it's time to gas up. You are an awesome person and don't let trolls and negative people hurt your feelings. You control your everyday and keep it that way. You are so sweet and I really enjoy all your stories! Many Blessings for you and your Husband and family 🇺🇸💪🏻👍🏻🙏🇺🇸
Royal Enfield Himalayan. Amazing bike! And only like 6 grand new!.... Oh, first timer writing or commenting. Love all what you and the hubby do! Thank you! I have a 2007 Suzuki Boulevard C50 all decked out like a full bagger. Not rubbing it in, but I live in Phoenix, Arizona, so I can ride all year long!!
You should look at an older KLR-650. Might still be a little tall for you but you can find them very cheap and there’s tons of mods and info out there for them.
For storytelling, I'd recommend checking out Josh Flowers' Aviation101 channel. I've been following him since he was 17 getting his private pilot's license. Started out just documenting the flight, then moving into talking about/through what is happening, and now he has stories and segments that he does 3-4 times a year, where he films for a week or two, then spreads that content out over 6 weeks or so. He still does individual flights and other content, but his storytelling ability has been lovely to watch as it has matured. Best wishes for you and the channel. -J
I love your Channel👍🏻👍🏻I do like seeing you ride with your Husband . My wife rides with me she has a Trike and she loves it. Take cars Jess. Hope y’all have a Great Weekend
I quit network TV (and FB) almost 3 years ago and feel better for it, as 'uninformed' as I may be these days.. Storytelling is why I subscribe to UA-cam content providers in general. I like the things I like and it brings me enjoyment on my terms. A good story, flowing presentation and interesting content is golden. IMO, you're doing a great job of it so keep up the good work.
The street scrambler might be good for you lower to the ground 900cc and it should be a similar feel compared to your old triumph. Triumph Cleveland had a great selection of used street scramble last time I was up there. And you could put some upgrades on it to make it more comparable to your old triumph.
The update is nice. I'm glad you and the hubby are doing well. I worry about younger folks now days. I like your story telling goal. The story telling is what keeps me watching Itchy Boots since she started. Nail the story telling!!! Be good kiddo!
Ohh, I wanna comment on all the questions...not possible😁 But one thing I have to convey... My favorite videos is when you and Jordan working together in the garage. Interesting Q's & even more interesting A's. Big thanks Jess!!
Recently, my wife and I had to tear out our basement due to mold issues, so I had to pack up my office and move it out to my shop/garage. I'm watching you in my 800sqft space, 43" monitor, and my fatboy is sitting 10' away from me, DUSTY! It's -2 degrees this morning (Northern Illinois)....When I first got my bike, I'd ride in the winter....you and @bikes and beards get me through these winters now. thanks!
Hi Jess! Northeast Ohio here and new rider at 50 years old!!! I'm currently riding a 2021 Yamaha TW200 dual sport and it's the best light weight small bike for dirt/trail/gravel. I'd love to let you test ride it this spring...I'm just in the Akron area!
Jess, thought might tell you, you can get some small rubber plugs from the hardware store to plug those holes on you tourpack where you took the backrest off. Did that on mine to keep the water from getting in it.
For a midsized ADV bike, consider the BMW G650GS, lots out there on the secondary market at reasonable prices. A lot of lady bikers have gone that route. For new perhaps the Moto Guzzi V85TT Travel lowered. Shaft drive so a lot less maintenance. Both come with heated grips and panniers that make touring easy.
Totally agree - the G650GS is a great bike, with a smaller feel than the bigger GS bikes but still adequate performance and load carrying capacity. Why BMW stopped making them, I have no idea. (I’m sure the 310 is no substitute.) Sounds crazy, I know, but my G650GS goes to more exciting places than my R1200GS, which sticks to main roads. Love Guzzis too, previously owned two of them.
after i got married the longest i wore my ring was the honey moon. I have never worn it since and that was 14 years ago. I used to work in a factory where i couldn't wear rings and i didn't want to lose it so i just left it at home all the time. I don't need a wedding ring to remind me I'm married. As far as Harleys being expensive, new ones are expensive. I don't think i could ever justify buying a new Harley. I have an 06 dyna street bob with 15,000 miles and i bought it for $4000. Before that i had an 06 sporter 1200 that I sold for $4000 to buy the dyna. you can find deals if you look hard enough and are patient.
Just found your channel here,Jess really enjoy your videos. I am new too riding at an older age..Your videos are very good to new riders also..Thank You,so much.
Hey Jess! Just wanted to say I've been loving your content lately, and this video especially hit home for me. As a fellow rider who also is from OH, I also can totally relate to not wanting to get out on the bike all the time. I feel like since we live in a state where the riding season is SOOO SHORT it would encourage me to get out more. But I always get caught up in other stuff and then winter comes around (how about that crazy storm we just got... 18 inches of snow up here in Cuyahoga falls) and I get the riding itch Soooo Bad lol this is the time when I BINGE your and Shadetree's channel and just wish I was out there riding. Anyway, keep up the good content. Thanks for keeping it real.
Well Hello, My Sister Buckeye from up North. I was Very Impressed with your answers near the beginning. On how you Don't Show or Tell your Routes or Itineraries on SM. Nor speak about any defense training you may or may not have taken. Nor say if or if not you carry concealed any sort of weapons &\ deterrents on your person. Kudos Jess. Stay SAFE & WARM This Winter Jess. Cap, Cincinnati Oh
I do most of my riding alone. I am a H.O.G member but I'm at least an hour away from where the rides begin on ride days so I don't bother anymore. There are times when I can't be bothered either riding or cleaning the bikes after a ride usually when it's stinking hot. That means leaving early in morning, 5am when its still cool, and getting back before the afternoon sun cooks everything. I have mate whose wife also rides, funnily enough a 2019 Triumph Scrambler, who also rode without a wedding ring. She has now changed that after getting hit on a lot so she has a simple gold band. I must admit I've never really thought of the creep thing. It's not something I've ever heard mentioned here in Oz from any of the ladies that are in the H.O.G though I suppose it does happen.
Going through something similar. I have an Indian Scout Bobber and the closest groups, clubs, or motorcycle organizations I would like to join and ride with are an hour away. Love the bike. Love to ride. But missing having a group locally to hang with and ride with. Having an Indain, I can't be in HOG, and the other local organizations are super inactive or super....serious/criminal. Neither of which I am interested in.
My wife and I transitioned almost completely to silicon wedding rings and only wear the "real" ones during special occasions or going out. Keep doing what you are doing Jess! you've built up a great community.
I am a bit of an old codger. And I bike alone. I had an incident a few years ago that developed in about 10 seconds and I thought that I had had my last day. The situation turned ugly the moment I noticed that they were starting to surround me. A couple of ranchers came by and noticed the situation. They handled it very nicely and I swore I will NEVER be a victim again. I will take care of myself now. And stay vigilant. Create a set of personal rules that you learn to never violate.
If you are looking for a bike to get more comfortable off road and only plan on using it for short rides look at the yamaha tw200. I know it is an ugly small mostly dirt bike, but all the fundamentals transfer to any bike you ride.
First time watching ur video look nothing wrong with riding alone I've been riding for over 45 years and at one time I had a bike club with over 300 members. Anyway to make a long story short riding alone is so peaceful that's why I love watching itchy boots videos. And my wife last year bought me a new Harley as a surprise and it has a solo seat on it. Lol anyway keep safe.
I'm really enjoying my 7K street bob. I'm also a professional maintenance person. I've got the 96 cube and the Six speed at a good price in a well maintained and durable package. I advise being very honest with yourself about your abilities to do work on the bike yourself when making a purchase decision. Thinking about changing a clutch is different than actually doing it. BTW, I love channels like yours that reach out to women. It's wonderful that the ladies who have an inclination to ride have a more visible path to getting a leg over.
I paid 26k for my first house back in '98. And my 14 streetglide cost about 22k out the door then 2k in upgrades. Its crazy to think i bought a house for only 2k more than my first house cost.
I am prejudice but the Royal Enfield Himalayan is a great off road bike. Itchy Boots road one for two seasons. The bike was so reliable for her, that's one of the reasons I bought my 2020 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and at 17,000 miles I'm still in love with her.
List your tips below on how you safely travel solo on a motorcycle!
I'm always down to ride!!! I wish I could ride alot more than what I get to I work 6 days a week
Stay within your limits, stay hydrated, stop often, enjoy the ride 😎
Research and plan your routes including contingencies.
Always wear leathers.
Keeping your defense incognito is the best way.
Your answer to how you protect yourself is the best ive heard. NEVER tell folks what you do or know.! Love your channel. Maybe we will see ya on the road soon.

PREACH ABOUT THAT FIRST QUESTION! Well said! Properly addressed! And a guide for everyone to understand when it comes to personal safety

You’re one of the most real normal everyday kinda person I watch on UA-cam. You’re authentic and you should never apologize for being yourself.
I enjoyed that, listening to you in the background whilst working. I think as I’ve said before “don’t change what you do and how you do it” all the very best to you and hubby.

For an ADV bike that’s smaller and still lots of fun I recommend the Kawasaki KLR 650.

Great video. I love learning more about you. I agree that eastern USA has beautiful scenic roads to ride on.
The way the light reflects in your pupils is really cool.
Please just keep being you, your a great person and only those who feel insecure in themselves will be saying anything bad about you! You rock girl !
I enjoy watching you and amazed on how brave you are riding alone. I am 59 just started riding again last year. I have a 2002 fatboy...I love it!
Very very smart! When you try, you're a great storyteller! Thise videos are your best stuff.

I'm a truck driver getting pretty good usability out of my rubber ring, But my hands stay a lot cleaner. Always told the wife that if the rubber band didn't work I'd get a tattoo

My father only recently started wearing his. Same reasons. He was a millwright, then he retired.
I saw a guy in a rebar shop rip most of his finger off due to a wedding ring getting hung up in a bender.
I wear mine before and after work. While there it comes off. I am a machinist.

That's great. Always be smart and careful. Never ever tell social media everything.
Great Q&A Video Jess Thank you!
100%. Truth is simple. Don’t over think, just do. Peace.
You rock! Keep up the smiles and miles! Living the dream!
Love watching you and your adventures. Always cool seeing Jordan's new videos too. Keep up the cool work.
How can anyone say something negative about you? You're real and cool AF.
Totally agree. She is 💯 awesome. Not sure how anyone can say anything negative.
Right? I was thinking that too. When you get your favorites and you have a few, why do people waste their life throwing unnecessary energy for no reason? And what on earth could they possibly find to criticize about Jess?! There's just nothing. Karma gets 'em 😉
Haters gonna hate, because they hate themselves. No reasonable person would have anything personally negative to say about her.
Good video Jess . It's never easy to just put yourself out there ! Thanks for taking the time to always connect with your viewers
I totally understand the wearing the wedding ring problem. I was having a hell of a time with my ring turning within my gloves and poking me & tearing up glove liners. I now have another flat wedding ring that we got specifically for when I'm riding.
Good for you be safe and enjoy yourself. Ride safe and keep that tracker on husband, watch over your lady
Glad to hear that when you really don't feel like riding then you don't ride. Always follow your feelings.
My wife rides a Ducati Scrambler. She is 5'7". She hasn't ridden it on dirt though. I've put about 75 miles of dirt roads with it. I have a few videos of it, as well as her riding it.
Good answers and I really like your garage make over.
Great Q&A. I enjoy watching your videos!
Nice video, Jess. Have a wonderful weekend.
I love your Channel Jess, thank you so much for all your effort to make this channel so special :-)
The tunnel of trees is a must see for you next year Jess. It’s a beautiful ride. And don’t forget to stop in at Leggs bar for lunch. Great food
Just go during the week, nuts on the weekends.
Great video, Jess. Loved learning more about you. It was so awesome to meet you this year (IMS SoCal)! Love your goal for 2022! Congrats on all of your success.
You do you and don't worry about the negative people. Just enjoy riding and stay out there
Jess, you are inspiring. I don’t know where these people are coming from. I just want to send you some positivity 🌞 🙏
You have demonstrated a great deal of wisdom in this video. Wisdom is a great reward!
I still like the idea of off-roading so maybe a smaller adventure bike may be in my future, but not for the long distance tour.
great questions and answers enjoyed watching thanks take care
I’m a horrible story teller, I make my videos for me and friends now. Also it’s a good way to keep maintenance records lol. You do great Jess 🤙🏼
You should totally get a Navi or Grom and make it an off-road-er. Like Blockhead and his Grom-Ventures. I would love to do something like that myself.
just be yourself and enjoy doing what you love
Jess, I love your channel and travels. Please be safe out there.
You should look at an older KLR-650. Might still be a little tall for you but you can find them very cheap and there’s tons of mods and info out there for them.
Loved watching you grow this year.Keep the wrenching up you'll get it.
We love you Jess. Stay safe!
You're very level headed woman, felt like you were talking to me personally; much respect.
The street scrambler might be good for you lower to the ground 900cc and it should be a similar feel compared to your old triumph. Triumph Cleveland had a great selection of used street scramble last time I was up there. And you could put some upgrades on it to make it more comparable to your old triumph.
Love you Jess! As always, love the content. Thank you for being you!
It's -2 degrees this morning (Northern Illinois)....When I first got my bike, I'd ride in the winter....you and @bikes and beards get me through these winters now. thanks!
Well done Jess, for being honest and open. Lovely video (on UA-cam) 👍🇬🇧
Keep up the good work. All is well all is good
Thanks for sharing. Safe travels!
So inspiring, great video and thank you for the honest answers
You should do a summer series of trips in 2022 with a theme. For example a series of National Parks, history destinations, etc.
Love the Q&A! I think it’s great to have trolls. That means you’re famous enough to get them. Turn it in to a positive! Lol!
You just keep on rocking it. Keep producing great content. You are one of the inspirations for me even thinking about this whole 'concept'
Congratulations 🎉 on your new hubby 🤠 God bless you and yours 🙂
