- OC's have become such a huge part of the art community and over the past 10 years. I've designed and illustrated a ton of original characters. All the way from feature films and video games, to commercials and, of course, my original book NIMA! I've already made a couple videos on character design, but this video dives deeper into how I develop, create, and design Original Characters!

Today I drew a character that I really liked, so I made her my first definitive OC, but I still want to tweak her a bit since she is still too generic. This might be my style since I go for the tv animation style, but I'll get there, she's very interesting and I already am building her personality
Oou I wish you good luck!!! I have a Brazilian OC, and I gave her superpowers (telepathy and radiation energy). I kind of have a semi-realistic/ecchi art style. But the best thing for Oc’s is to make a character sheets to determine the height, weight, and build. If you have an app like Pinterest, try making a character board filled with things that your character may be like.
One idea could be OC board 1: design. You can put different ethnicities, hair and skin colors, personalities, etc. It’s also best to put what kind of characters or ppl from different shows, or movies that has somewhat inspired your oc. Another board could be about different body types and fashion. You can incorporate what kind of clothing taste fits your character based on personality, or design choice. (Tip: make sure the clothing design matches the scheme of your character, otherwise it may draw attention from your character, or make it look dull. Unless your character isn’t human, or if it’s a naked fantasy type thing.) I hope these tips help. And if you need any more ideas/help, I’ll be happy to fill you in or recommend more vids.

Aang's thing isn't just yip yip! It's also his staff, his iconic air nomad clothes and tattoos which you never see on anyone else in ATLA. (besides in flashbacks of the air nomads) So it's important to have multiple things as well. He was also right when he said it's powerful when they lose their one thing! When Aang had to go into hiding and "lose," his avatar title (to some extent) he was devastated! When he lost his staff, he was _devastated!_ Things are VERY important, although not all characters have to have them ^^
My way of creating an OC; Joining in an Roleplay based on anybof my interests (obsessed w Tangled the series), suddenly there is a need for another character to get the story going. And voila ; New OC created (I think I have over 50 by now in this fandom alone)
I just love Nima. I think one of the first artworks i saw of you was Nima. She just looks so pretty and mysterious, like there MUST be a story behind this character. I think thats why i started to follow you, wanting to know more about the story of Nima. So great character design from your side! :D
(i dont have the book, but) when ross said that faye is a more introverted character, i found that really interesting because i feel like her design is really out there and extroverted-looking? if that makes sense
yeah, she looks like she's super fierce and always has a comeback ready for you. she also seems a little arrogant/cold with her glance sometimes. but most of all she often looks like the biggest tsundere in existence xD at least to me. she has the "It's not like I like you or anything" aura.
Introverts, like myself, sometimes try and make ourselves look extroverted to idk, fit in i suppose?

One of the things I hate about my mother tongue not being English is: getting to a video early and having to translate my comment with google translator, so that by the end when I return the comment section is full

I bought my first Digital art pad, and I've always focused on realism and references drawing. But I've never learned how to draw poses, anatomy, or even creating my own OC. But I've really enjoyed your videos and hope to one day to be able to do anything close to this! Thanks for the amazing videos and inspiration!
How's it going?
That long picture with all the different characters is amazing. I'm aware it's mostly thanks to the character designs, dynamic and composition but there's also something about their colors that binds them all together and I'm not sure what it is... possibly the blue and white on all of them and the way they cast light on each other.
I'm currently learning how to draw manga art and I needed this, thank you! 😄

This is my favorite thing to do. I’ve been creating characters and stories with characters since I first put pencil (or crayon) to paper
LOL your jacket was literally my favorite colors as a 4-year-old hahaha - I would always pick out pink, yellow and sea green in my Crayola box hahahahaha. I would literally just dream of solid blocks of those colors because I loved them so much 😂

My favourite oc of yours is miracle. Because she's a middle child just like me! I'm joining the dtiys for her!
When I make OCs, I usually create them as people I wish I could know, whether good or bad. For example, my two main OCs are Astuto and Kamara, who are platonic sisters and they are bounty hunters together. I think I made them this way because I wish I had a brotherly love for someone like they have for each other, someone I can rely on and more importantly, someone I can fight with and know it'll still end up okay. This is the beauty of art for me - it is a way of expressing myself and my feelings when I can't seem to find the right words.
The colour dodge princesses remind me of Mesprit, Uxie and Azelf from Pokemon! I love it!

When i make characters, i try to make the cast as minimal as possible for each story (bcuz i feel like there are too many characters in my world)
My world is very inspired by 80's/90's action cartoons and action heroes.
Some characters i have for now
Hyper: a war torn soldier who only wants to protect himself from war as a solo soldier. His development is simply him realising he needs a team cuz if he doesn't, he could enter a dark and lonely future
B-Box: he's basically the homie of the group, his sentences turn into short raps and he's extremely skilled in martial arts. He's kinda a mix between Jazz from Transformers and Jammer from The Bots Master
Quickshot (not his official name): a racer who lost his legs in a sabotaged race, now he has a wheel as his leg
Pinpoint: Hyper's mentor, a vigilant, quick footed sniper. She isn't the typical mom figure
Barrage: the chunky, heavy duty gatling gunner, second in command of the Quake Legion, the commandos of my world
Drillspike: the strong girl who invented weapons of her own like the Deconstructor weapon series. Basically turn construction vehicles into armoured combat vehicles
PJ (short for Pressure Jet): he's the firefighter of my world, he can change the pressure of his hose to where his water can cut metal. Later he gets a mod that turns his water to ice, he also gets anothet upgrade where his left side if focused on fire, his superhero alias is "Frostfire". Lastly he also owns a carwash (kinda like a public shower for robots) and is apart of a rescue squad as a firefighter (i might change his name later)
These are the robots of my world, there are human characters but i haven't fleshed them out yet

I'm evaluating my Ba Da Bean OC: Peggy! I know it's a preschool show but I kinda love it, so I made an OC.
1. She is kind of an extension of who I am. Peggy is good at befriending people because of the large ammount of interests and traits she has and hates being completely alone for more than a few minutes, as well as silence. She loves scrapbooking and collecting stuff that sticks to her body (she's a little sticky tack figure, pretty similar to Cosa). Most of her personality is inspired by mine.
2. Peggy doesn't have an exact goal. She just loves befriending people and exploring. That's if you don't count her goal of reaching Big Table (she comes from a shelf in the art classroom) and meeting it's inhabitants, which she already acomplished.
3. If I had to describe Peggy using three words, they would be "sociable", "kind" and "flexible". She befriends people easily, she cares for them and she adapts pretty quickly to most situations (literally). She's really sticky and she can shapeshift.
4. Yeah... Bean is the main character in Ba Da Bean so... yeah. Peggy is kinda like self-insert into their story. Speaking of weaknesses, her main "weakness" is the downsides of her stickyness. She loves hugging people but she has rarely done so because she knows the consecuences. She has an extremely hard time working alone, and even though she dislikes silence (too much silence), she also dislikes EXTREMELY loud noises like fireworks and explosions (she can stand loud music and screaming, though).
