I have the Ping G430 Max 12° in the bag, not changing anytime soon! Didn't think the G400 would get kicked out of the bag, the forgiveness and launch was better with the G430.

I've got the 430 LST in the bag. I had the TSR3 in the bag earlier and really enjoyed it. I switched to the 430 for a bit more forgiveness. My bag is mostly Ping but I've also got some Titleist as well. Those are my two favorite brands.

12 month cycles are ridiculous, just branding really and seems more marketing than anything else. Ping/Titleist/Mizuno have it right -- about a two year cycle and as good as anything else out there, with no gimmicks and flashy branding.

How do Titleist& Co “have it right” when TM & Callaway are the #1 in driver sales every year? Unless one of those 2-year cycle brands can generate equivalent sales volume, I’d say the 1-year cycle brands ‘have it right’.
Mind you I typically change drivers every 3-4 years and currently play a TSR3 which I do not foresee changing anytime in next 2 years. This however is not about you or me and our respective buying habits, it’s about oem marketing and profitability.
Ultimately this is a business. For the retailers the 1-year cycle can be difficult if they do not manage their stocking orders well, getting stuck with “outdated” product every 10-12 months they then need to discount. That said, no retailer would ever consider giving up either TM or Callaway lines due to the sheer sales volumes nearly year round. You’ll find many retailers carry very low stocking numbers of the 2-year cycle brands in the 2nd year due to it being a relatively stale product in a very fluid market sector. From an oem perspective the retooling and marketing costs of 1-year lifecycle is much greater but clearly it translates to sales volume thus it’s not going to change until their sales volume and marketshare recedes.

Mizuno aren’t really the same, they seem to be releasing drivers more often, I may be wrong but they tweak it only a little same for their irons, Jpx and mp every second year. But I agree 100% that a 2 year cycle should be the way. At least then you can trust what comes out will actually be bettter

@@MichaelM-to4sgAgree with all your points. Personally I think TM/Callaway are ahead because they spend so much more on marketing & sponsorships, and always seem to be offering the next big thing -- and certainly they have it right in terms of revenue. Personally I just find it gimmicky and enjoy finding a Ping, Titleist or Mizuno on even better reductions as they near the end of 2 years. But that's just me -- my golf (Hdcp 4.5) isn't good enough to see a performance difference between a Stealth or Stealth 2, let alone a SIM. Like you I tend to change driver every 3-4 years or so.

The result in this video is identical to my findings. PING LST (and I play the same Kai'li White), such a reliably tight pattern. Titleist TSR3 can theoretically go further if I turn it over, but my spread is greater (just like Mike).

New to golf and had the M4's for 9 months and just wanted less help - wanted to learn to hit the ball well. I have a G430 Max 9deg turned up to 10 and really like it. I actually won mine in a TopTracer challenge event at my driving range ☺️
I’ve played ping clubs for 30 years and like their approach to the golf market. Being an engineering company, they focus more on fact than fiction and leave the aggressive marketing to TM and Callaway which to be honest, gets a tad boring, even though I’m sure is effective. PING may not be the sexiest brand, but there’s a reason why you’ll see a lot of their product in the hands of the amateur at weekends…. They’ll bail you out more often than most!

I like what cobra do, a 1 year cycle but similar technology every 2 years. The speed zone and radspeed featured very similar technology but the radspeed had slightly better performance. It lets the golfer who want to upgrade every year do so, while allowing other golfers to hold onto to their clubs without missing out. Also cobras pricing doesn't break the bank as much as other brands but still delivers comparable if not better performance.

  • @brianmartin83

2 year cycle is a huge plus, nothing worse than having an old model after 6 months, although if it’s a good driver maybe having it years is a positive. I play the g430 LST. Was in a stealth which was longer but wilder. I don’t mind the looks of the ping head myself, but I much prefer looking at shots from the fairway so that forgiveness to me was most important. I love the look and sound of the Titleist, they are the best looking hands down, but like I say the look of a shot from a fairway is the main reason I’m in the ping!!

Doesn't bother me if a brand offers a new driver every year. I am not going to chase after the latest and greatest if my current driver is performing well. I hit a Titleist driver at a fitting once. I am being truthful when I say it was the most beautiful driver I have ever held. Too beautiful. I was reluctant to scratch it up. I wanted to frame it an mount it in my living room. Ended up with a Ping G410 with a 44.25 inch shaft. Looks like a pickup truck not a ferrari. Sounds like a tin can. But it finds fairways better than any driver I have had to date.

Hi Michael awesome video again. IMHO 12 months is not going to achieve the best improvement on the outgoing model. I'm still playing the Sim2 which I find hasn't been improved by the newer stealth 1 or 2. Having said that, I just love coming home after a long day to watch the review of new golfing equipment. So yes if it's an evolutionary change a 2 year cycle is more feasible however most brands follow these changes with incremental almost negligible changes the following year. These life cycle effectively do only last 2 years in any case. Looking forward to the next launches. What is important though is thd timing of the launches, mizuno seems to miss the sweet spot with post summer driver launch despite his good it is and when it comes to comparison in January Feb they are always forgotten as being a current model.

  • @chuckpalmer284

I always buy the previous year driver. There is typically very little difference in drivers from year to year. For me why pay the new driver price when you can get basically the same performance from a driver that is a year old and costs a lot less. Example the Ping G430 sounds better than the G425 but the performance is the same I would buy the G425 for a lot less money.

  • @SONOMA_VALLEY_TOM

I buy & sell golf clubs frequently. Always buy the immediately previous generation which is usually priced at 60% discount from new. Just replaced my Titleist TSi2 driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 4 hybrid with a Taylormade Stealth equivalent armory. I am hitting the Stealths 10% longer and arguably more accurately (as much as my 14 handicap allows). Though I still believe the carbon face Stealth is a gimmick that may not have market longevity. A friend who is a scratch golfer hits 3 large buckets of practice balls daily. Last week he blew the face off his Stealth. He's returning to a Titleist driver.

TSR3 In the bag and won’t be coming out for at least 3-5 years. Had 2016 M2 for a couple of years until I was custom fit TSR2 last December. A few months ago Compared the 2 vs. TSR3 and the 3 outperformed it in all areas. Compared to the 2, TSR3 gave me 5 more yards of carry, higher ball speed and better smash factor. I also got custom fit for TSR3 3 wood; Ordered a 5W and now 4 hybrid.
Titleist has got it right by releasing new products every two years. Gives ample time to R&D their equipment. Similar to Ping and Mizuno. Titleist has By far the BEST sound/feel and looks in their wood lineup.
Also, Titleist releasing their products in the fall is better because you’ve played all season and should be in peak form. with spring releases you’re cold after not playing over winter months.

2 year cycle is fine. The company‘s coming out every year with something as interesting, but since it seldom is any better than the previous year it’s more like splitting hairs which is a testimony to how much money they’re making on the stuff they can afford to re-innovate something every year and put it out on the market and sales are just mediocre. TM drivers are sitting on the shelves all over the place. Some of the other companies are seeing the same, partially to the steep price but also people can only afford so much when green fees have gone through the roof and the overall expense of golf is ridiculous. But whatever it is it is… To each his own
