As you stated it was probably an insurance claim on the Audi somebody stole the cats and then insurance company weighed the value of the car against the cost of new ones cheaper to pay off on the car
Except this isn’t an insurance car and it has a clean title.

The check engine light is probably caused by the O2 sensors not being connected. Other than the missing cats, that A6 is a great looking car! Great score, Randy 👍🇺🇸

Used cats are probably the ones that sent it to the auction, just look in to see if the used one has got good guts.

The only thing he needs now is a retail dealership license on top of the wholesale license.
What we do over the the pond is just replace the cats with a muffler, and redo the o2 sensor.

The Audi A6 is in Phenomenal condition. To keep costs down try and get an exhaust from a scrap yard. Really interested in the outcome.
Really looking forwards to the coming A6 vids. There must be a second hand exhaust to buy for far less than new units.
@@bikeman1x11 those are prob sport/universal cats (less eficient mostly empty cats) and thats why they are cheap they have a bit of cleaning material just so you can pass inspection as having cats on

$900 (roughly) for the DOHC engine higher end cat replacements, new, left and right. Got that? New factory specs. Where? Rock Auto.
Anyway could make a decent family or just user car. Depends on what else might jump up. It is an Audi.
Randy, those M, 1, 2, 3 and Stop buttons are for seat position memories, which was a optional back in the day 😁
But what does the STOP mean? Obvious what 1,2 and 3 mean.

That’s a really nice Audi! Being that it was well taken care of, you really need to fix the exhaust and clean it up. I don’t think you will loose money on it. Try looking for an aftermarket cat system that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. There are some cheaper ones that you can buy that have about half the expensive materials in them so they cost a lot less. They are totally legal they just don’t last as long as an original equipment one does. But you don’t need them to last that long on a higher mileage car that you are selling. You don’t have to worry that you might be ripping someone off, you aren’t. It’s up to the next owner to put good gas in the car and maintain the car properly and they will last them for a long time. I realize that you might already know this but I wanted to mention it so you can get as much out of the car as possible. Great find!

Always loved those A6s. Someone's going to get a great deal and another 130k easy. Hell, I'd quadruple your profit right now. But I know you can do better than that for sure easy 3,500 dollar car, good deal for you and buyer.
Copart scammed me. I pre bid on a Lincoln and was the only bid on it , for 300 dollars. When the day of the auction came up I was contacted by Copart and told that someone bid 400 and do I want to bid more. I bid more, and they contacted me and said someone had bid more again, and did I want to bid more. I declined and decided to watch the auction to see how much the car sold for. When the car came up on my computer screen, my computer just so happened to freeze up and I couldn't see how much the car sold for. It's a big scam.
Interior seems to be in great shape for a '98. I'd guess it's more like an '05-'07 if I didn't know much about cars. Great find, Randy, and thanks for the great content!
Relates to the Safe Code VW was smart Enough to Hide it in a trim panel that can be removed by hand at least in my 05 VW Jetta it had it hidden underneath the AC Controls right where the Power Outlet Sits above it was the code for the radio hidden underneath a normal trim panel

But yeah when we had an argument on fb that one day that's all I was saying enough with the golden oldies, just wanna see mostly modern classics considering resubscribing as I love the pre-2000 vehicles, I wasn't trying to start nothing I was just saying and OG took me and my friend the wrong way that's all, no hard feelings.

I own a 98 a4 quattro wouldn't take anything for it. It's the best car I've ever had. Would not mind having and a6 .
I had a 1996 Audi A4 Quattro five speed manual, was such an amazing car, ironically my Catalytic converters did go out actually but he’s most likely were stolen

This might be worth throwing new cats on it. It’s been maintained so well. And with that recent repair history and condition it’s gonna be worth a lot of money to the right buyer. Here in Germany people would happily pay at least 4K for this. And I mean there’s gotta be some Audi people in the US as well that are gonna want this. Without cats it’s not really wort that much but with them it’s a great car. If I lived in the US I’d buy this in a heartbeat.

It could have been sent there for vandalism because if someone stole the cats and the cars only worth like 2k and its 1400 for cats and o2 Sensors they would just total it and give the owner a check for a new car

This car was easy to buy cheap as everyone knows the cost of cats are high, and the car's value is $2500-$4000 on a good day. I can't wait to see how you go about getting it ready for sale at a reasonable cost. A quick look, and I found universal fit cats for $100-$300 each, hopefully one of these fits, and you can make a couple grand quick. 😁👍✌

The radio can probably be fixed by a UA-cam video....my wife had the idea to check for the sammmmme issue on a 09 Honda civic that the radio was locked on...10minutes into looking she unlocked it and you can put a universal cat on...with a extension pipe for 02 sensors a exhaust fab shop probably would cost about 400ish...clean up maybe put rims and tires that'll see fast in my opinion....

I don't mess with Foreign vehicles but about 5 year's ago I used a friend's Audi wagon it was from the later 2000s I drove it for 2 months making trips Florida to Indiana then to Maryland back to Florida then back to Maryland i really liked that car Lol I wanted it. I just put after cats on my F150 500$ at the local shop
Fix the Audi. True that you only paid $250 plus fees for it, but obviously based on the work done on the car per the CARFAX report, it is worth thousands more than that at this point. I suspect also, that if you contact Audi with proof of ownership you can get the radio codes and a new set of manuals. Looks like once again you’ve rescued a car that will serve some future owner well.😊

I'm surprised you don't have a dead car kit yet. Small tool box with common sizes, some electrical tape and wire, oil, brake fluid, maybe an extra battery or jumper cables in case the jump box dies.

Looks like you got nearly every car but the Mercedes' from the walkaround video. Looking really forward to the videos on the new cars. Seeing that Monte Carlo makes me miss mine I sold last year; it was 180k on it and like new inside, perfect interior and body. I'll be watching that guy at the auction... I don't think there is much to do to the Monte Carlo and the Blazer. I hope you can find a used exhaust for the A6, that is a way nicer car than less than $500 out the door, I think that might honestly be the best deal you have gotten in awhile. But even if you did nothing but replace the battery and send it back as a run and drive with the known facts about it from the Carfax, I am sure you could make a few bucks at least.
The water pump is timing-belt driven on this car; if the water pump went off prematurely, it can cause the timing belt to fail. The weep hole on the pump pours onto the hydraulic tensioner for the timing belt, which when it begins to fail can allow the timing belt to slip. In other words, planned obsolescence. The engine is great otherwise, same basic engine as the 2.7 twin turbo... Just a possible explanation as to why the belt was replaced again... BTW, Ruville is an inferior brand IMO.
I'd say actually have some fun with this thing. Make it fast. You can get a good bit of power out of these Audi V6s

I bought one of these in 2015 spares or repair for £600. I watched it on ebay and clearly no one wanted it so when the price dropped I offered less and drove it home. mine is same colour except I have the green leather seats. I absolutely love it, I am keeping it for as long as I possibly can. BTW the cambelt should be changed for age not only for mileage. I did my own and all the control arms. It is surprisingly easy to work on, never let me down and is the most comfortable seat I ever sit in.. It is the fastest most capable car I have ever owned but driving it is just too nice to rush. And yes, the ac works great (but I live on a mountain so I never use it) and the heater is just awesome.
Nice win Randy. You can use hand signals (arm square down) to indicate that you are slowing and stopping.
Call an Audi dealer with the VIN, they can supply the code for tge stereo..
Score. We have a 2000 Quattro Avant. Made cat pipes used universal cat. FYI Could not make non-Bosch O2 sensors work.

That Audi certainly was a steal Randy. I have no idea where your going to get a car for $225.00 and it runs and drives. I think you can get cats from junk yards. I know we did from a junk yard years ago. I would drive that car !
I would say the way to deal with the missing cats is to find a high mileage car cheap and swap the entire exhaust (if the donor looks like it had been replaced.) That hopefully would get you a good headlight and maybe a fender too. Not sure I would worry too much about the paint unless the value after repairs would justify it. At 120k, the A6 has lots of life still in it, and the donor could be sent to scrap or sold at auction just to see what you could get for it.

Just weld in aftermarket metal core cats. I've done that with a b5 s4 that I bought with no cats (test pipes only). I think the cats were like $150 each.

Hey dude, besides your jump starter here is something else you should be doing. Always check the tires, then make sure the lug nuts are tight, and while your at it check the fluids , coolant, brakes and transmission. Nice videos and stay safe out there friend.
