    Thank you for the video I really appreciate it! I had someone tell me that with a 90% or above if you don’t have a minimum set temp above 60 you can end up with early failure of the secondary heat exchanger. Like for a garage kept just over freezing. Was this a sales technique used on my friend or is there sense behind this? I’ve never heard this before and wasn’t sure if I should tell him yes or no.

      Check the sheet metal, sometimes when the unit shuts off and burners stop throwing heat it starts to cool down and that's where you get that contraction from the duct work.

I ran a continuity test on it and got 0001, however when I taped the disc the numbers jumped all over the place. There was no rollout, however the exhaust was wide open (unshrouded) on the side of the unit. Any suggestions? Thank You!

    Have you had any issues with "smart" thermostats? I had an issue with my furnace the other night and it turned out to be the Nest. Everything would work up until it went to open up the gas valve and it would just click and then instantly shut down the furnace. I ran the C wire for the thermostat so it had constant power because i have heard that not having constant power can cause issues. I was just curious if you have seen issues and what you have done to make them more reliable and not damage the furnace. I currently have the old thermostat wired up for the time being as its starting to get cold and I no longer trust the NEST

    Craig, My heating system has been installed approximately 10 years now. I’ve never paid much attention, but I do know I have a high efficiency unit. PVC exhaust. One of the main things I’ve noticed after viewing your videos is that I DO NOT HAVE any outside combustion air installed. I’ve always noticed that when the unit kicks on if my basement door is open it actually slams shut. Did the company just skip this Combustion air intake.??? The unit was inspected by the township and passed. Is it code requirement to install outside combustion air..???

    • @DakotaHeatingAndAir
      @DakotaHeatingAndAir Рік тому

      I would say thats a hack install, someone decided to skip running an intake it sounds like to cut down on time on the job. I've seen this issue where it drafts so hard because of no intake installed it puts out the burners for the water heater.

    I think you may have missed a step. Before the inducer motor is turned on, doesn't the controller board verify that the pressure switch is not stuck close?

    • @badassgrower
      @badassgrower 3 роки тому +1

      No - inducer motor proves pressure switch which tells board to go ahead and send electricity to glow igniter. The combustion motor clears all gases that may have built up in heat exchanger so it doesn’t blow up .

    • @timrob0420
      @timrob0420 3 роки тому +1

      Yes RP Smith you are correct, the IFC board first checks to see if the pressure switch is closed before ever turning on the inducer

  • @andyfer7716

    Thanks for an excellent video. I am wondering how the gas can be at 1/4 psi while normal atmospheric pressure is around 14 psi. Wouldn't the air want to rush into the gas line when the valve is opened ( instead of the gas flowing out)?

    • @justenhaight6429
      @justenhaight6429 3 роки тому +6

      When referring to pressure inside the gas line, we are using pounds per square inch gauge, 0 psig is equivalent to 14.7 psia or pounds per square inch ambient.

    • @justenhaight6429
      @justenhaight6429 3 роки тому +1

      So what he is referring to when he said 1/4 psig, is one 1/4 psi above ambient.

    • @andyfer7716
      @andyfer7716 3 роки тому

      @@justenhaight6429 Ah that makes sense now. However, I'm still confused why he said car tires are 45 psi. Normally car tires are 32 psi....so on the psig scale that should be 18 psig, correct?

    • @justenhaight6429
      @justenhaight6429 3 роки тому

      @@andyfer7716 car tire pressure is also rated as psig, so psia = 14.7 + 32 psig = 46.7 psia.

    • @justenhaight6429
      @justenhaight6429 3 роки тому +1

      @@andyfer7716 car tire pressure is normally listed on the tire, and is usually the cold pressure of the tire, once the tire heats up the pressure will increase, passenger cars are typically rated at 32 psig cp, but the larger the vehicle and the more weight it has to carry, the pressure rating will be higher.
