I'm 58 years old and I've always been artistic. When I was a teenager I wanted a career in art and signwriting interested me. A signwriter lived around the corner from us and my dad took me to see him for advice. He pretty much talked me out of it telling me the work was repetitive and often boring and that modern sign making techniques meant traditional signwriting was dying. Part of me wonders whether he was being honest but I also wonder whether he didn't want any competition. Looking back I see what a perfect trade this would have been for me. I'm very much an introvert and working alone is something I crave. I'm old enough to know that no career isn't without problems and negatives but I do regret not taking this path. But is everything lost? I know I'm getting to the end of my career but I'm toying with the idea of teaching myself and maybe starting a small part-time business maybe specialising in a specific area of signwriting. I don't have youth on my side but I have experience.

I'd rather tackle technical drawing, than sign writing. You did great. Liked this video a lot.

Hi Steve, enjoyed your video, I'm a left hander like yourself, struggled many years ago when i was training but got there eventually, keep practising and you'll get there, just one thing that may help you improve is to try and use the full length of your brush instead of the tip. Just practice single straight strokes laying the full brush down at the beginning of your stroke lifting and twisting as you come off the substrate, it will build your confidence and brush control. Hope it helps,

Hi George, yes thank you. Joby did teach us to do that but it’s just getting the hang of it 😊👍🏼 just seems unnatural using the full brush and not just the tip lol 😂👍🏼👍🏼
      I will keep practicing 😊

I enjoy all your videos this one was really good. I never would have seen the process if you didn’t document it. For that I thank you.

Well done! Except for the boat moving, I think you could well add Jet to Precious expertly. Thanks for the very interesting video!

Well done, R s and spacing I found to be the toughest. Only played with it for fun, I tried mirror writing, was almost as good as the proper way about. It’s always fascinating watching a south paw doing stuff, I have many in my family, and friends as well, always bumping elbows at supper. You want to see some fancy paint work watch Pakistani truck.

Spacing is very hard! Had to run out several potential signs just because the spacing was out 😊👍🏼

Very impressive. I tried carving wooden signs and found I had no aptitude for it, also no one to teach me. Maybe a sign writing video on your boat soon?

I noticed that both you and your neighbour were left handed and the other day I watched another sign writing video and that person was also left handed !! What are the odds.

Why suddenly speed it all up ---hard to see the lesson ! or is this a joke ?
