    Prague is missing a huge opportunity by not marketing its trams more. Especially the T3 models are so iconic, you could compare them with London’s Double-Decker buses. Prague (and other Czech cities) should be proud of its excellent tram network.

      @@theparrotrescuer3042 I share your pain. It is truly a pity. Especially, when you realize that American tram network used to be so huge. I remember, how our teacher told us about workers, who were travelling all around the Eastern Coast just by trams.

      @@theparrotrescuer3042 They are actualy quite easy to adapt for your country, compared to Prague. Imagine all those wiggly medieval roads built on uneven hilly terrain. On the other hand, american cities are flat, full ofwide roads. Just change some of those giant wide 4 lane roads into 2 lanes with dedicated tramlines in the middle. The important part is however to create one large transportation grid quickly, so people can reach most of the city from anywhere - the small projects consisiting of one tramline covering 15% of town are useles. Trams are suitable for widespread cities with lower density of population, unlike metro. And they do not get stuck in traffic. Plus you can replace all te school buses with them, once you establish functioning transportation system. On top of that, stations turn into local economic centers, as people naturaly frequent them, which gives a chance to small local businesses. Like hot dog stand, or grocery shops. These further fight the giant malls, because why spend 2 hours shopping, if you can just buy your groceries on the way back from work.
      And make sure to buy our trams, they are the best!

    • @CZpersi
      @CZpersi 3 роки тому +1

    The Prague Unlocked is an amazing idea and hopefully we, travellers, will be able to have access to this type of program elsewhere and hopefully, beyond "2020" (they have a typo on their EN, AT and DE version of the website) or even 2021 😊

      It is pointless project. Just some bureacrats trying to show productivity by spending taxes. Very few tourists will actualy use it, 8 EUR is just not worth the effort, if you can afford the 100 EUR per night hotels, food and travel tickets, you will not spend hour of your time by figuring some stupidly complicated discount system. Plus what is the point of giving freebies to someone, if our capital is overrun by too many visitors? Any other year we would need to reduce them, as you cant see the city through the crowd of visitors. It is in our best interest to milk as much money from each one of them. Not by scams, extortions or criminality, but by providing everything they expect, but guiding the tourism to show true history. That just means providing something worth paying for. There is NO REASON why Prague should not be as expensive as Venice, Rome, Vienna or Paris.

      @@Pyrochemik007, thing is, there will be A LOT of competition to attract tourists in the next two years. So, countries and cities from around the World will need to find fun and interesting ways to add value to what they offer to attract said tourists.
      And seriously, I'm not exactly sure (or disagree as to) why you're so angry about this little project. You really need to understand that the travel industry all over the World is totally messed up and it's going to be messed up for probably the next two years. Life as you knew it does not exist anymore...

      @@travellingsebi It pisses me off, as it spends taxpayer´s money to reduce our income, and does not have an attraction value. In the end it just feeds another bureaucrats who overlook the system. This manpower could have been used to chase out the bulshit shops selling chinese souvenirs, fake marihuana products and russian matryoshkas from city center. It could have been used to punish AirBnB, who take on role of hotels without accepting same responsibilities. It really became business for investors, and huge part f grey economy. It is also a big risk for safety, as we do not know who and when was in Prague and have no way of tracking them. They could spend the money to remove graffiti, or create a sponsored service for citizen which remove them after call. Any of these projects would improve Prague significantly, but all they did is invent complicated discount system. Or just introduce the modern huge underground trash bins, as you can frequently see overflowing trash cans in city center.
      And you are wrong in one thing - we do not need more tourists. Prague is overcrowded. We need tourists which are willing to spend more money, and tourists willing to stay longer and look around other parts of the country. Other major tourist cities in europe are not our competition, they offer different product.

      @@Pyrochemik007 listen, I agree with all of what you said about making Prague better and most cities around the World should make more effort in that regard (I live in Montreal and we have the same issues that you have) but, you shouldn't be thinking of them as a "either/or" thing. I'm sure that both things (what you're asking and what they're doing) can be achieved?
      As for the rest, well, it could be debated but, I feel like it would be a pointless thing to do since it would be considered an exchange of opinions not based on concrete evidences.

      @@travellingsebi OFC you like a freebie. But why should foreign tourist get discount over domestic ones? Domestic tourism is huge here, we are not a lazy nation, we prefer active holidays. Giving discount to tourist from foreign country is just a bad idea, as foreigners generaly earn and spend much more than we can afford. For example canadian average wage is 105 000 CZK, while our is 35 000 CZK. And similar situation with whole western europe, northern america, japan, korea, even visiting russians and chinese are among the richest in their countries. These people are a majority of visitors. Why give discounts, since entrance fees are already made quite cheap to stay affordable to locals? Will you travel here with your 105 000 wage because of 200 discount? No. That is the purpose pushed into us, but in fact, it is but a method to feed money to hotels. Select few hotels with ties to politicians, are fed money out of my pocket. And it will not bring ANY effect, because you are not gonna decide to come here because of the discount. The result is we earn 200 less from every tourist using this deal.
      It is like a restaurant. Will you visit because they cook well, or because they serve spaghetti 5% cheaper?

    Looks like a fun way to get around the city in a short amount of time. But, in reading the city site about the tram it is hard to tell if this is going to be year round or just for the summer. I am not traveling again to Prague until December 2022... didn't know if I should plan on this or study the other tram routes to get me and my parents around. Thanks for any in sight!

    How long does the €8 ticket last and is it only for line 42 or is it for all public transport in the ciry?
    When you visit Gothenburg, Sweden you can for all the public transport within the city including the islands and some smaller areas around the city get a 90 min ticket for €3, 24h ticket for €11 or a 72h ticket for €22. There are also 30, 90 and 365 days tickets but they start at €79 so not really something to consider when only visiting.

    "Powder Tower"? Seriously? It's Gunpowder Tower, because it was used as a storage for town's gunpowder. We call it "Prašná", because "Střelno-prašná" would soud weird, but in english, it has it's full name.
