    It's because of Air Pruning. These grow bags allows flow of air causing the roots to get pruned and therefore the plant goes more vigorous lateral roots.

    I am just learning of your passing my heart is broken it was nearly 9 years ago that I watch your video on canning beef & I had no idea what canning was, but it was with your recommendations that you guided me in the right direction to learn and that I am forever grateful and now that my husband & I are in a home with a yard we tried gardening last year with little luck because of the amount of sand we have in our is crazy and I remember you saying something about container gardening a few years back and it’s exactly what I want to do And through your videos and your guidance you will be teaching me again I’m grateful I found your videos 9 years ago ❤️💜❤️ Thank you my friend my love and condolences to your family

      You can grow cover crops until them in as green manure to build up your soil. You can also add biochar or make biochar and your second year after healthy microbes have made the biochar it's home and it will add the benefit of retaining moisture better for you.
      This should help you heal your land. Also if you can have some backyard chickens and run them around the yard that will add manure just don't have them in one place for too long as their manure runs hot unless you compost it but if you keep them moving like maybe every day or two it'll give the soil a little oomph to help push it along.

    Hello Mr. Larry,
    I found your channel a few weeks ago and I love it!!!
    I'm learning a lot and you make it look so easy!👍 I'm a 1st time gardener and I "THINK" I'm killing my plants that I'm trying to grow from seed.
    I live in La Crosse, WI, grow zone 4b, and I am trying to grow many things in containers. I tried to grow strawberries indoors. Got nothing. I'm also trying to grow some pickle Bush Cucumbers, some crimson sweet watermelons and a few other things That I haven't planted yet.
    My crimson sweet watermelons grew a sprig but it was very leggy and weak and so we're my cucumbers. I was told that they weren't suppose to look like that, so I got discouraged.
    Never saw any strawberry spouts at all, but I'm still excited/determined about trying to get it right.
    I think I might have the wrong soil mixture and I think I might be getting them too wet or something 🤔...? and also, I think I might be smothering them with too much heat, as it is still cold here. It snowed 2 days ago now it's in the 50's here.
    I guess what I'm doing when I put the plastic wrap over them... I just don't know what I'm doing wrong, can you give me some suggestions plz?
    Your garden ALWAYS looks so happy, healthy, and beautiful, and I want mine to look like that too!🙂
    I've been thinking about making that 6 bottle growing system that u made, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I thought that was just AWESOME!👍😁🥰
    Anyway, I know that you're really busy and it's probably impossible to answer every comment and/or questions, I do understand that, but I pray that by some divine act of God that you will answer at some point. But if not, thank you anyway for your time and your videos. They help me learn a lot. At any rate, Stay blessed and stay safe!👍😁

    Hi Larry, this question I have is more for the float valve. Can you explain to those of us who need a little more explaining on how it works. Like I get that it keeps the water level "at a certain level". But when the water reaches its point does it go back into the tubing, how does it rid the excess water.

    • @kgs2127
      @kgs2127 4 роки тому

      The drain hole in side of container. The float valve calls for water when needed and the drain hole lets out excess (like when it rains). The two work independently to keep water at optimal level.

    Hi Larry, How do you control mosquitoes when you put grow bags in baby pool? Thanks

    • @kgs2127
      @kgs2127 4 роки тому +1

      Either pebbles in pool (look at rocks in small dishes holding pouches in vid) or mosquito dunks.

    I’m sorry, there’s one more thing. I use the 4” wicking cups. I think they wick a little better, it’s not much but it is measurable. They wick about 20% better or I should say more efficiently. I also use a 2x8 or 10 across the bottom. Not for support although it does do that but treated lumber will warp, twist and look like a corkscrew when it dries out. It will do it sooner or later and it’ll take the gutter with it.

    Hey Larry, I’m Glenn in Alabama, and I’ve just subscribed to your channel. I’ve also been a self watering container gardener for years. I like what you have to offer in rain gutter watering, however I do have a question and I hope you’ll address it. Even though they call container gardening self watering you do need to water about once a week in the middle of summer. And when I do I use an organic fertilizer (a tsp. per gallon). Crops are different, cantaloupe and watermelon’s need a lot of water as opposed to say cherry tomatoes. Like people,, adults drink more than children and need more food also. The beauty of the gutter watering system is there’s never a shortage of water, but what about food. Plants need more food the larger they get and I’ve not yet seen that issue addressed. That’s why the roots continue to grow, the plant needs more food. Do you ever add any to your system and if so how ? I like the float in the separate bucket, I thought that might be an easy way to add some soluble organic fertilizer. Anyway, it’s a nice system. When you did the bags in the little pool fertilizer could be added easily with that method. Even though you add it to the soil before potting and the 10-10-10- around the top sort of addresses this, the gutter system doesn’t that seen. I’ll be watching and thanks. Oh yes, the lime, I think Dolomite is far too strong, agricultural lime is much better for plants. Everything else you’ve really nailed it. I’m going to build one and try to put a step in which a little fertilizer can be added as the plant matures. I can see you’ve been very successfully , I just feel like the plants need a little more meat on the bone as they grow. What’d you think?
