"His contributions were shooting me and *thinking* about a nuclear power plant" as someone who plays factorio with friends, I could feel this in my soul.
I actually love that little opening sound, to the extent that if I start the game with my sound off, I will occasionally restart the game just to hear that noise. Like a junkie that's gotta get the gear and setup just right for their fix.
*Actually* do you even mod bro? Damn thing restarts every time you change any mod, but I like where your head is at. I'm closing in on 2000 hours, please excuse me while I go touch some grass.
I really really like the discord audio but you do you. Typically I watch videos for the experience and presentation of the people in the video, if I just wanted pure factorio I could go play factorio myself.
i like the discord chatter popping in! it's no big deal missing the game audio (osrs ost bangs) and it's nice to hear everybody talking about random shit. this was nice. no need to worry about jamming more progress into one video, whatever you're doing with this first one was good. do as you build... spaghetti your way into content...
i love the discord audio it gave this vid a nice feel at minimum keep the other player working with you involved in the audio i just found your content so i'm going to watch the back log now wish you luck with your run
The reason (old school) Runescape is growing to this very day is a development model that respects your time. There is no constantly falling away from you content treadmill that you get shit out of the second you put the game down like every other popular MMO on the market. Whatever opinion you might have of Runescape or how much of a grind it is, every hour spent is progress towards something, anything, that will never be devalued. An achievement ten years ago is just as relevant of an achievement today, and the only difference is a little bit of a power-creep along the way in how fast or enjoyable that grind was.
About the circuits from stone. It most likley is not about electronic ingredients, but the stone is just the board. The insulating surface you put copper circuits on - circuits board. Wooden circuits boards existed in real word. All kind of plastics are just better for that job. Stone slab is a bit weird, for example seablock goes with just wood, but stone is still better than vanilla: making circuits board from two conductive materials:)
34:26 pause Navigation view is incredibly strong. After you launch your first satellite youll be able to view any surface remotely. Dont wanna spoil too much but its basically free radar coverage in map view for the entire universe
The reason for the bot attrition mechanic isn't really to make it impossible to use bots, but to put a cap on how many inserters you have running. The more inserters you have, the more crash, so you need to produce more, so your production directly sets the average amount of bots you can use And yes, any insulator you can drill holes in and won't melt from the heat of soldering can theoretically be used as a circuit board. Including stone
The stone slab in circuits is probably intended as the substrate, and beyond weight (and possibly brittleness) I don't see any reasons not to use stone. Granite even has a similar dielectric constant to typical PCB substrates.
loved the reference to settlers of Catan. I just recently reobsessed with that game as my childhood nostalgia caught me a little. I regret nothing. Those whole somewhat personal touch and not aggressive cutting makes the whole hour easy to watch. Keep it up 🤌🏼🫴🏼✨
Fun video, thanks for the editing! Looking forward to seeing you handle all the cool weird stuff in these mods. I've been doing the same "race" with my friends up to the late-game and it gets wild, but weirdly intuitive. It's no wonder both mods' devs got hired for the main game. Fun fact: a recent Space Exploration update for Krastorio 2 compatibility (0.6.122) just before you started severely nerfed bots, as previously they had a ton of crazy bonuses from Krastorio, like roughly doubled base speed and ten times the starting carry amount. Personally I like the update but it was fun seeing you complain about the bots with that in mind.
RuneScape music makes me tear up something fierce, i went trough some really rough things as a kid and RuneScape was my first experience that gave me a place to get away from misery and parental abuse. RuneScape music has a special place in my heart ❤️❤️ 😉🤟
Listening to you talk about Runescape was hilarious, because I also have the same experience and opinion about music. A mediocre soundtrack doesnt ruin a game, but an iconic soundtrack definitely makes a game iconic. Think Zelda, Xenoblade, or Halo. They are all iconic soundtracks that transport you back. Anime and tv shows are the same too tbh.
i think you could make a circuit on a slab of stone, as its sort of heat resistant and non-conductive, although it would be heavier than conventional circuit plates
Fantastic video. Would(will) watch again. It was fun to watch the whole thing while making my first Space Exploration Science base. About the discord audio, You are able to iso-record the discord audio in OBS, so when editing the video it will be it's own track that you can use or not use at your direction. Sorry for the camera terminology, I've worked with cameras in the past, not audio.
The vid is rad! I subbed. I like the detailed explanation, the narrative is great and the old school 8 bit music just rocks! Subbed, keep on doing it man
Btw about what you said on the audio part at the end, you can just split the audio tracks so that the discord audio can be separated from the game and be safely removed. Hope this helps in some way.
I've been playing Runescape for about 15 years now and now i can teach it to my kids. its had its up's and downs as a game, fist of Guthix is a dead minigame but the swordfishing gloves kept people in it till the toolbelt became a thing, dungeoneering you can at least do solo and has some applications round Gilenor.
15:46 Yeah, I just finished my first Vanilla playthrough, 85% of the time was me trying to unfuck the trains because I apparently can't understand blinky lights and the trains are too braindead to understand my intentions.
@ choosing between in game audio vs discord: in case you want 'the best of both worlds' it's fairly easy to record discord audio and in game audio separately so you can just splicing in the discord audio when you want it while ducking the in game audio or just leaving it as the same mix as your voice. Virtual Audio Cable *can* be a bit daunting at first, but you're basically just creating new inputs and outputs that you can then set up in OBS as separate audio streams the same way you set up your mic vs game audio i.e. you set up your mic as one input, Factorio itself as another, and then discord as your last one and it should all work just like however your current setup works. *this is all assuming I understood your problem with your current setup correctly. I personally really liked the spliced in discord chatter, I thought it really added to the commentary/video in general so I hope you find some way to keep it for the next video (without too much headache). I do agree with others that the music is a tad too loud though. Imo the voice and in game audio are right where they need to be (game sound could come up a tad probably, but doesn't really matter in a game like this) but the music should be probably halved or so. Right now the mix sounds like the music is as the same level as your voice so they kind of 'step' on each other
Wasn't expecting to come into this and first thing hearing a very based take about runescape a game of which I adore both versions. But you're right, some of those old tracks are absolutely sublime and will stay with me till my dying breath, and hopefully beyond.
Ah, I know that spaghetti monster, I was it at the start of this modpack, tried to make order in the chaos of other 3 players... but gave up around the 100h mark. Using fast belts insted of train? Whatever. Infinite amount of corners in belts? Eh. Making one part in one factory and BELTING it over 200 belts away? It'll work, just give it some time. By the end it was mess with steel furnaces, lvl 2 assemblers, and boxes and boxes of stuff we never used, but we finished it... even if we lost 2 players because it got real tedious with biology in space. And rebuilding Science and orbit atleast 3 times.
24:30 This is like casually telling me you installed a mod that can turn water into wine, I've spent atleast a full 24 hours on "Belt and Splitter Shenanigans" (I have nearly 100 hours and I installed this game like two weeks ago)
Before I watch the rest of the video, I believe the thing that made (and in part still makes) RuneScape so incredibly unique among MMORPG's is that it's a) from a time before WoW entered the market and everything afterwards was just some variation of WoW clone (which I personally find to be a rather boring formula) b) the extremely low barrier for entry and one of the best freemium models at the time. c) the very vibrant and "alive" world that actively changes in response to the player completing the many, many, many great quest lines with many areas in the game being very unique and strongly tied to the questlines that unlock them, making a character's journey through RuneScape feel like they are actually involved but without losing the MMORPG part. In between the grind anyways. The grind was the awful but addicting in between to unlock the requirements for the quests which then offer you new opportunities to grind for more quests which offer you more opportunities to grind for... etc. It was a very well thought out gameplay loop. Much better than unlocking a new area by going on fetch or kill x quests just to do the same thing with a reskin of the enemies in the previous area. d) the music. It's simple but the simplicity and variety is what makes it so iconic. RuneScape was and is a masterpiece to this day because it's a relic from a time where MMO design itself was still very experimental and game design was a lot cheaper and allowed for a lot more freedom and risk.
That being said, I don't think it's a game I would ever play again as an adult. The mindnumbing grind was okay as a kid but I didn't think I could keep it up this time around.
Also also, I'm pretty sure vanilla factory already does plenty of the implying we're not human or at the very least on an alien planet. Last time I checked we didn't have massive bugs coming to eat our copper production after we crash landed in the wilderness due to a definitely-not-a-spaceship malfunction.
Me screaming at the screen that if u control click a burner miner w/ coal then you will take out all coal quickly and make the construction bots fast D:

bro started describing his job history with his strength and weakness like he was in a job interview

As someone who is maxed and has a 2100 total ironman in OSRS. watching factorio has always been fun seeing others put in the hours for games.
bumping for the algorithm because I have been waiting ages for an actual edited K2+SE playthrough
It makes me happy to see that DoshDoshington has positively influenced so much of the content creating community for Factorio
