- Ein Ausflug nach Dresden vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg und der Zerstörung. Unser Amateurkameramann hat ein Faible für Statuen. A trip to Dresden before WWII. Our amateur cameraman has a passion for statues and Dresden is supposed to have enough of them. This piece of film gives a small impression of how it was back then. That the carpet bombing of Dresden has to be considered as a war crime like f.e. the bombing of the Cities of Cologne, Rotterdam, Coventry, Birmingham and many others is absolutely undisputed, so please keep calm with your comments. requests: archiv@koelnprogramm.de

Was immer wieder auffällt ist, dass das Leben entschleunigter war, die Leute schreiten förmlich vor sich hin
So ist es!
Wie wunderschön Dresden damals war. In den letzten Kriegstagen, als die Stadt voller Flüchtlinge aus dem Osten war, sinnlos zerstört da keine kriegswichtigen Betriebe sich dort befanden. Heute strahlt Dresden wieder. Danke für die Zeitreise.

Die Väter und Söhne waren im Krieg und brachten Millionen um
Heute ein Schatten seiner selbst. Das richtige Dresden ist verloren für immer.
Das Video hat mich sehr bewegt. Vielen Dank für die Zeitreise in die Vergangenheit. Einige Statuen gibt es leider nicht mehr.

Mein wunderschönes Dresden.
Keiner konnte damals ahnen, dass es dem Bombardement am 13. Februar 1945 zum Opfer fallen würde.
Die barocke Innenstadt erscheint heue wieder in vollem Glanz.

Thanks for sharing. Was there in the fall of 2020. Things were so much more classic back then. Don't know how many in the video survived the Firestorm. Would have been nice to see Aldstadt and Prager strasse as it existed then . Great if you could find more pre war Dresden. Today Dresden looks like any other German city except for the key monuments that survived the war. Would like to reproduce a quote I saw in the altstadt memorial "the war we took to Europe came back to haunt us". One man's ambition took a whole culture with him . Yes they have remodeled it now and it looks good but old is allways gold. When I was at the Fraukenkirche there was a saying from the Bible posted on a hoarding on the side of the church . It said " Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God" . A lady soprano was singing a song about peace or something like that on a microphone 🎤 in front of the church. I found it ironic that if there was a dialogue taken seriously the history associated with the location could have been avoided. Today it is a symbol of why peace and dialogue is important.
There are no "key" monuments that survived the Hell! They are all replica's!
How was pre-1936 architecture achieved? There is Stone work everywhere that we cant do today! I think there was a previous civilization far more advanced than we are being taught in our schools

Ist schon erstaunlich zu sehen wie viel der Gebäude und Orte heute noch in Dresden exsistieren, trotz der Zertörung im 2. Weltkrieg. Anhand dessen sieht man mal wie Alt so manche Gebäude sind.

I first visited Dresden with my friends from Halle/Saale in 1966. I remember the Green Treasury and the Zinger best of all not to mention the huge devastation and lack of rebuilding interest by the SED party in government of the DDR. I was aware that Sir Arthur Harris was not a name to be mentioned in public.

Beautiful city scenes. What a tragedy that nine years after the film was taken Dresden would become a giant fire bomb cauldron thanks to National Socialism!
