Aah, a balm to my soul in these uncertain times! Having just heard our president declare a national disaster, I needed some relief, and found it in your lovely walk. We will have to design new models of social gatherings for a while. Being together, apart, will become a way of life at least for a couple of months, it seems. Accompanying you on your walks, together with other viewers, is a perfect example. Thank you, John.
Hello John!☺I really enjoy watching your videos👍I live in Ohio.my great grandfather lived in England.he was born and raised there.until he and my great grandmother immigrated to the States.I've always wanted to visit 🇬🇧but my younger brother is 80% blind and in a wheelchair.both of our parents have passed on and I am his only help so it's impossible for me to travel far! But because of wonderful people like you! I get to see the wonderful💙🇬🇧❤land of my forefathers❤thank you❤ so very much for sharing your journeys a lot of beauty in the landscapes there💚🌲
I try to just relax and watch these videos all the way through, but John points out a warehouse or some other building and off I scurry to streetview - with a compulsion to know where it is.
Absolutely love these videos, I am unable to walk as much due to health reasons . Enjoyed you walking around Leyton as I grew up there . Thanks for the interesting walk.
Hi John. What a break from my own head to watch your film today. We're all struggling right now in one way or another. Thank you for allowing me to join you. Hope you and yours are keeping safe and well. Thanks. Dave
thanks Dave - it's the best time of the day. Last Sunday I did a fantastic walk through Epping Forest that ended in the dark when all was quiet and still thelostbyway.com/2020/03/the-end-of-winter-in-epping-forest.html
Done the whole Capital Ring walk a few years ago! Was in the area only last Thursday. Done the Grand Union Canal walk, from Greenford to Boston Manor, via Southall and Bull’s Bridge. (The long way round).
Thank you for a very warm and cozy walk, the background music adding so much to the atmosphere. I'm sure I heard a screech owl at one point, and the sight of the old church clock took me back to when I used to work on them. Super stuff, keep it going John wonky knee and all.
'Wherever that may be', would be your catchphrase ! Great work as always John, I learn so much and enjoy so much your videos. A prepared man always brings a change of hats !!!
Oh John you missed the turning for the Fox, it's a great pub. I use to live in Hanwell and this walk made me feel quite emotional 😉. That Polish deli is great, also there is an award winning chip shop round the corner on boston manor road called the golden chip which is defo worth a visit. Also there is a great small Zoo near to where you were walking by the Wharncliffe Viaduct known locally as the bunny park 😉 the Marshall amp was invented there and there is a plack 2 mins walk from that Polish shop. Not sure if Hanwell Hootie is still a thing but worth a visit, good mini music festival. Keep up the great posts!
Thanks John for another beautiful uplifting video in these troubling and uncertain times,as I am having to self isolate for the next month I shall be watching all your videos again and rereading your book, all the best to you and your family,...thank you
That was wonderful! You seemed to visibly enjoy this walk more than any other recently. I should definitely like to see that 'boat loading warehouse' and the viaduct bridge - a very photogenic walk, with those being just two highlights.
Thanks Paul - I really needed this walk for some reason and this route really delivered in spades. It also brought back great memories of the walk I did for the book back in November 2012
HI EWOK AND JOHN, I HAVE A VAST LONDON KNOWLEDGE IN MIND COMPUTER, BUT CA'N PUT IT TO GOOD USE AS I AM BEDRIDDEN HAVING LOST BOTH LOWER LEGS, CONSULTANTS CONFIRMING IS DUE TO YEARS OF MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABUSE FROM MY FATHER TAKING IT OUT ON ME FOR HE BEING INJURED ON A 2ND WAR MINE AND THE RESULTING SEVERE ANXIETY, NERVES, STRESS, TRAUMA AND HYPERTENSIION THAT I WAS FORCED TO SUFFER CAUSING BAD CIRCULATION, BLOOD CLOTS AND THE EVENTUAL AMPUTATIONS OF BOTH LOWER LEGS, FEB 2016 TO AUG 2018 AND FURTHER CONFIRMED THAT I AM AN INDIRECT 2ND WAR CASUALTY HAVING HAD THE GOVENMENT VIA THE WAR UNLAWFULLY ROB ME OF MY LOWER LEGS AND MOBILITY. I HAVE NO ONE TO GET ME FURTHER THAN JUST VERY LOCAL. IF EVEN THAT, BUT MOSTLY NO ONE AT ALL & I CAN FIND NO HELP & OR FUNDS TO REGAIN MY STOLEN MOBILITY AT ALL. FROM A VERY DEPRESSED PETER IN N E LONDON.
Food for the soul. Thank you so much for this walk. I, like many others, have had to cancel my big trip to London in April - I was going to mudlark in Greenwich for my50th! so this walk is great to be on with you. I hope you take us on another one soon. Stay safe and healthy ☀️
Super video. My American wife is a real student indeed expert on Tudor History and she was delighted at the section on Syon House and its association with Katherine Howard.
Thank you so much John. Honestly. What a wonderful break from current events. I really hope you can continue to produce these films for us over the coming weeks. They'll be more welcome than ever. Just remember to use your contactless to pay for those chicken pies and cereal bars and you should be fine! Happy walking everyone :)
Thanks John. I grew up in Greenford but didn't know any of the mythology around the place names. Very interesting to learn more about the history of somewhere I know so well. I haven't been back for years but your video has made me want to return for a trip down memory lane.
My pleasure Ashley - if you google Tales (or Legends) of Greenford Parva you'll find the old book that I got all this from - the pdf is free to download
Thanks for this great soul-lifting walk John! So many new and fascinating locations on this one. A lot of great bridges on the Capital Road. Also love the Perryvale/Hrosington Hill/ Doctor Who connection. 7 and Ace are my favorite classic Who team.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel is interred in a family plot at Kensal Rise Cemetery the oldest of the London garden cemeteries (opened in 1833). The cemetery is one of the 'Magnificent Seven of the major London cemeteries and holds 250, 000 internments, including many notable people of the Victorian age - Henry Mayhew, Charles Blondin, Charles Babbage and John Claudius Loudon. Loudon designed our first public park The Derby Arboretum (opened 1843), published 'The Encyclopaedia of Gardening' (1832), wrote extensively on all manner of landscape and horticultural subjects including 'On the Laying Out, Planting and Managing of Cemeteries and the Improvement of Churchyards'. In 1807 Loudon lived at Wood Hall Farm, Pinner which he rebuilt to his own designs from 1808.
Thanks for another lovely video, John. The tale of the 7 Anglo-Saxon warriors reminds me of the story of King Arthur and his Knights waiting in the tunnels under Alderley Edge, Cheshire, waiting to help England at its time of peril.
JOHN WHEN STILL MOBILE , IN 1983 I WALKED FROM PADDINGTON TO HARMONDSWORTH ALOND THE GRAND UNION CANAL AND THEN VIA THE BRENTFORD ARM OF THE GRAND UNION CANAL VIA THE HANWELL RISE OF LOCKS TON TO THE FOX BY THIS BRENTFORD ARM OF THE GRAND UNION CANAL WHICH IS ACTUALLY THE RIVER BRENT. . I AGAIN FOUND THE FOX PUB ON A WALK FROM EALING IN 1993 AND THE GUY SAID HE SERVED ME 10 YEARS AGO !!!!!!!.
I love your walks. Many years ago I lived in Purley. But at the time I was more interested in spending my time clubbing in London, than walking and learning about the history of London. Now I have lived in Canada for many years so I get my walks and history from watching your videos. I told my sister who lives in Essex and now she says she is hooked on them too! I will have to check out your book. Is it still available and if so where can it be bought?
Brilliant Liz - many thanks. The book's available from Amazon and it was also available through other US retailers, I'm not sure about Canada though. Here it is on Amazon www.amazon.com/This-Other-London-Adventures-Overlooked/dp/0008294763/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=this+other+london&qid=1587512550&sr=8-1

If Perivale is surreal, then we are certainly in surreal times. Take care over the next few weeks John. Come to that, wasn't Peri one of the time lord's assistants? I look forward to the video where you stumble across a rip in the space time continuum. That'll probably end up in Stalham. That would explain an awful lot...
Hi John, have you ever walked the Beverly Brook walk ? This crosses Barnes Common, Richmond Park and Wimbledon common. It looks very beautiful what I have seen of images. You must add it to your growing list if you have not walked it ! Enjoy your walks, thanks
Was that a gaelic football goal in the background at around 21:52? Looked a bit wide for rugby, but my device isn't the best for picking up background details. Great walk, and I'll be looking at it again when it's time to kill time at work.
@@JohnRogersWalks Thanks! It still looks a bit wide to me. Lucky, I haven't played in 15 years, so I'm beyond the stage where I still lament missed drop goals.
One day, when you are walking by the canal, you might meet the 'cruising the cut' canal boater who posts on UA-cam. The feedback loop created by you two filming each other might just crash the internet.
Ha, M H I'd love to meet David along the canal one day, I started watching his videos when he was doing camera reviews before he moved onto the narrow boat. I'll always be grateful for the shoutout he gave my channel the other year
Thanks - I only showed the Westwards view but you can see the view East in this video I shot in 2012 when I did the walk for my book ua-cam.com/video/OU_a3CEl8g8/v-deo.html
Another great walk John. Loved the tale about your fictional self walking the hill before your actual self lol 😂by the way I hope this virus won't put paid to your walks and hope you and your family stay safe and well. All the very best, Deni 👍😍
