Simple, hilarious storylines delivered by excellent actors. No need for all the killings and affairs etc that the modern day coronation street has. The classic coronation street usually has me in tears of laughter.
RIP Jean Alexander the greatest ever in the Street. Thank you for the memories. The golden era of The Street. 4th most popular woman in Britain, revered by Sir John Betjeman and Sir Laurence Olivier and loved by the British public. There will never be another Hilda Ogden. God Bless you.
One of my fondest memories is Jean Alexander had done her last days filming of Corrie, and was waiting for her train home to Southport at Salford Central Station. One of the station employees presented her with flowers, and everyone on both platforms erupted into spontaneous applause. I will never forget it.
yes rick I quite agree .coronation street at is best back in the 70s and 80s when you had jean alexander Bernard youens doris speed and pat phoenix to mention a few they knew how to act and give us pleasure in watching them coronation street today is rubbish and actresses who couldn't act for their supper apart form kate ford and William roache who keep the show going with the fine acting skills. I don't watch coronation street anymore . it the pits
Bernard was the complete opposite of his Stan Character in real life, a friend of mine knew him as a neighbour and said that he had a personal computer in his home circa 1980. Always wore a suit and was very much the man about town, dining in the finest food establishment's and could be a snob, he shyed away from personal interviews as he found the Stan character odious and playing him was just a very well paid job that allowed him to live a life of luxury. Said friend had asked Bernard about other members of the cast and all he said was ' I don't associate with them I just work with them'. So that's a little bit of info secondhand granted but even if I claimed to have been his friend I could be making it up, I've no reason to doubt said long term friend of mine
Another little snippet I forgot to mention, I was also told he had a cleaner that came in everyday, I'm not sure if it was because he made a hell of a mess and didn't want to clean it up, or it was just the done thing to do when you have copious amounts of money to spare and it saves you doing your own cooking, cleaning, ironing etc. Something he had in common with his Stan Ogden character, a personal skivvy. Lol
Eastenders script writers, compare and contrast, no shootings, rapes, fires, murders, bombs, stabbings, car crashes, (nobody could afford one). But a great deal of what makes most ordinary folks lives bearable, humour.!
Jane O'keeffe Didn't she and Stan live there themselves before moving to Coronation Street? Making it an odd comment that it's the 'first time she's ever 'eard of anyone from there bein' keen about their washin'' !
Why is she our in public with curlers in her hair, and why do all of these episodes have her with the curlers??! People usually wear them at night! Does she ever take them out??!! And always the same green scarf!! 😂🤣

I love Hilda , I could watch her over and over , was such a brilliant actress and character .

Fantastic!!!
That's so cool
I just started to cry when I read that.
My mum is just like good old Hilda!...Hard working, fiery, speaks her mind.....but has a heart of gold. Will help anyone.Love ya mum xxx
She was a very fine actress both as "Hilda" and in Last of the Summer Wine...She will be sadly missed by so many.
The most iconic couple in soap land
Loved how he called her chuck
Absolutely wonderful, magnificent, real talented actors,,and natural "real life"
Acting is breathtaking. None of the narcissism that drips off actors today.
Stan Ogden -the greatest Englishman of all time
Stan and Hilda fond memories of these two characters and the two best actors too have appeared in any soap opera
It's the first time, I've ever heard anyone from Inkerman Street, being keen about their washing!!! LOL...
She just couldn't resist it could she..also a dig at Beth Lynch about having a man with " if you've got one " classic.
Brilliant she was!!
Miss Hilda! Great character
Stan Ogden and Eddie Yeats are the Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble of Coronation Street.
😂😂😂😂
Mike Baldwin was such a ladies man 😂
Stan, Hilda, Eddie, and Curly were all the most wonderful characters.
Perfect. Thank you.
*When Coronation Street used to be good . . .*
Still good now Rick, and better than Eastenders.

@@Loverboy19691 2019 coronation st just full of doom and gloom
Imagine having to listen to Hilda"s voice day in/day out for a year? I'd end up topping myself :D
RIP Hilda
Back when Corrie was Corrie. Not the junk we have to put up with now. It started to go downhill in 1997 I think. Battersby arrival.

whats a computer got to do with it karl?
interesting, to get this perspective , ;)
yeah, stan needed a crutch.
@@karlmaldensnose5889 Also, a friend of mine who is from Salford said that Bernard told his mum to eff off once when she asked him for an autograph.
Brilliant. Makes me sad really brings back so many good memories
Hilda was my Hero
there was some obscure society that voted stan ogden the greatest living englishman
Was this like an obscure EastEnders (sorry to mention that here) group of fans that called themselves the 'Lou Beale fan club' after Pauline's mother?
lmao, stan's quick rich scheme's. rip eddie, stan and hilda.
Rest In Peace Hilda.
Hilda = legend.
hilda was the best lol a true definition of a battle axe lol
think stan was an idle bastard
I beg your pardon but Stan was always busy doing nothing.
RIP Jean Xxx
RIP ( Geoffrey Hughes )
Back before it was called Corrie.
I noticed the standard dropped when people started to refer to Coronation street as Corrie.
Fetch me,bring me,carry me...
My mum used to say that😂
Fantastic
Stan and Hilda Ogden the greatest soap characters ever created. Today's Corrie characters are dull boring and completely unlikeable.
RIP lovely lady. xxx
God bless Hilda
RIP Chuck
The good old days
te ra chuck
stans a cross between jim royle and bungle of rainbow
Would have been nice to tell us the year this was filmed!
Legend.
wonderful

That wasnt fair on Stan. He didn't know Hilda had already washed the clothes.
Serves him right!
''Hilda, shift me im burning'' lmao
Ruby Green's teeth, look like they have been modelled on a cart horse...
RIP
Joseph and today TV 😀
So funny
why does hilda have a problem with inkerman street?
James Shore because there was rumors that Stan had a fling with a woman in that street
Jane O'keeffe Didn't she and Stan live there themselves before moving to Coronation Street? Making it an odd comment that it's the 'first time she's ever 'eard of anyone from there bein' keen about their washin'' !
A woman called Clara Regan lived at 19 Inkerman Street. For years Hilda thought Stan was having his jollies with Clara.
It's where the riff raff live, according to Hilda.
Inkerman St is in the Red Light District of Weatherfield
Twiggy
Women Stanley, women.
😂👍

Mandela effect, she died years ago.
I wonder if Stan slapped Hilda up a bit before giving her one?
