      I grew up with VH and was so into the music, Sammy came along and added some textures and exploration, unlike other fans, I embraced both. As different music styles came and went, VH was still there for me. Now when I hear Eruption, Runnin With The Devil, Hot For Teacher, Jani’s Cryin, I get so sad listening to Eddies brilliance, like missing a friend that passed. Hope Jimi and Eddie are jamming upstairs.

    • @JasonDavisVoice
      @JasonDavisVoice 3 роки тому +13

      @@MrOccyc Truth. Both eras of VH are great for different reasons. Dreams is one of my all time favorite songs. They never could have recorded that with Roth. That being said, the stuff they did with Dave changed the way guitar was played forever. VH is easily one of the all time great rock bands.

    • @Saldivinorum
      @Saldivinorum 3 роки тому +10

      @@MrOccyc it has absolutely nothing to do with people being "Roth fan boys," and has everything to do with the fact that this doesn't sound like the Van Halen that Roth fronted. Music is subjective, go figure. Personally I think Sammy tries way too fucking hard to be funny, making him seem over the top amd absolutely annoying in my opinion. And most of the songs they wrote with Sammy sound cheesy as fucking hell, like Dreams. It makes me want to puke or rip out my car stereo every time I hear the first few notes. I like a few of the songs they wrote with Sammy, but I like literally every song (only exception being Happy Trails) that Van Halen wrote with Dave. I can play all of Van Halen's albums from their self titled debut to Diver Down without skipping not one song. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is my favorite VH album with Sammy as the frontman, and I can't stand but 3 songs on that album, 4 if you count 316.
      So I go from liking everything on every Van Halen album, to barely liking 1/3rd of an album at best. I can't stand anything on Balance and the other 2 albums I think maybe a handful are bearable to listen to. This is of course my opinion, key word is opinion. I don't dislike Sammy as a person, nor do I think Dave is anything other than a spoiled pompous asshole. The fact remains that Dave's style is what I and many others prefer when listening to Van Halen.
      I reiterate, musical taste is a subjective thing. I don't hate on Sammy nor do I hate on Van Hagar fans. They are nothing more than two opposite sides of the same fucking coin bub.
      Also keep in mind that Van Halen is the ONLY reason I learned to play guitar and are my second all time favorite band after Zep. Just my two cents...

      I've played bass since I first saw them in Tampa Florida 1978. Ed spat on Mikey a lot. But Mikey was a hired hand and he knew that, was good with it. Eddie plays a lot of bass in most albums after the first. But his voice could be lead if needed. And as solid of a Van Halen then a Van Halen. Ed wanted to play with his son, I get it and most likely saved his drunkard ass too. But the way he went out sucked and could have gone very differently but Ed hated everyone in those years.

    I hope everyone appreciates what Michael Anthony is doing on "Won't Get Fooled Again". He's playing a John ‍Alec ‍Entwistle master class bass line WHILE singing tenor harmony ABOVE Sammy. I mean he does this throughout his career with both DLR and Sammy; but with an Entwistle bass line, it's like a Mount Rushmore of bass players thing. Like Geddy Lee, Chris Squire stratosphere type stuff. It's the definition of pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time.

      You forgot "in my personal opinion." I could name over a hundred rock frontmen that I personally like way more than Sammy. However that's my opinion. Just saying...
      PS I'd like to state that I agree that Sammy has an awesome rock singing voice, to be sure. Honestly I just think his lyrics are a bit cheesy and he tries way too fucking hard to be funny. Making him way over the top in my opinion. It can be a reason for liking him as well, I realize this. However it is a fact that most men like Dave as Van Halen's frontman, and most women like Van Hegar. Sammy is too lovey-dovey in his style, which is again just my opinion. Musical tastes are subjective after all.
      BTW the PS was written a month or so after posting, and everything before the postscript was really just a cheesy joke, so there's that. I forgot we get attacked nowadays for explaining logical fallacies and expressing differences of opinion even when done in a fun-loving way. My bad? I honestly meant no offense to anyone lol.
