That hour bell seems to remind me of Big Ben. Also, for the benefit and information of you and others who view this, the tune being played on the bells that precedes the striking of the hour was originally known as the Cambridge Quarters, because it was composed for the clock tower of the Church of St. Mary the Great in Cambridge. Today, it is known as the Westminster chime, because it is played by the bells of Big Ben and there are actually words for it. They are below if you want to read them while listening or sing along. Lord, through this hour, be Thou our guide. So, by Thy power, no foot shall slide. These words are based on Psalm 37:23-24, where David the psalmist declares this: The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delighteth in His way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord upholdeth him with His hand.
@@marvelpascal6994there are 12 bells plus a sharp 2nd and a chime of 22 bells hung on 2 levels the tenor of the 12 weighs 42-2-25cwts and is cast by by john taylor
It’s actually a carillon of 23 bells. The full set can be played automatically by a machine, 13 of the bells are mounted for change ringing. Great Abel, the 8 ton hour bell is separate
it isn't, it isn't even the biggest in the UK. The biggest in the UK (which isn't even used anymore) is the 2012 London Olympic bell. The biggest used bell in the UK is Great Paul of St. Pauls Cathedral in London.
It is also known as Great Peter but there are two Great Pauls (the one at St. Paul’s Cathedral and the one that I am talking about). They are both in England but in separate places.
surely the hour bell should be the noisiest? it rumbles away rather quietly compared to the quarter jack's. typical council job there then. half a job at best! :)
It is loud, but from where its filmed its the furthest bell away from the camera. Gt Abel in positioned at the bottom of the spire, not in the belfry with the others
From the outside it's louder, but the hour bell (known as "Great Abel") is hang separately from other bells, that is why it sounds more quiet from here. From here ua-cam.com/video/xALFr8IDzag/v-deo.html , however, you can clearly hear the hour bell.

Did you know that bigger bells are more impressive
There are 12 bells which all rung together by pulling the ringers
The Great Abel bell sounds deeper than Big Ben, but it’s slightly smaller
