    So, what's interesting when it comes to a plug in car is the following:
    * What range do YOU get on pure electric power? No way it'll go 25miles. 14 miles is more realistic.
    * What is the fuel consumption once the battery is depleted? You didn't even talk about this...
    * You got 50mpg, under what circumstances? Did you charge every night, during the day, how far did you drive and how eco friendly did you drive?
    * The US EPA rating is more accurate when it comes to ev range and combined fuel consumption. Look at those numbers instead of the unrealistic NEDC numbers.

      +Filip Bjurling The video is already over 7 minutes long. Its purpose isn't to microanalysis the car, but to give a broad overview and a conclusion. We are based in Europe so we wouldn't be using EPA figures.

      +Inside Lane I'm just saying what i think it's important. That the 3-series looks good or handles well we know already. Milage on battery and mpg when it is depleted is what's most interesting i think. I know you are based in Europe but that doesn't change the fact the epa cycle is better. I live in Sweden, but i always look at the epa numbers anyway.

      @Wooly Chewbakker is it possible to not even plug it in? Just drive in safe mode most of the time, also what if the battery at zero%? The new Yaris will not start of the battery is deplete.

    Realistic the fully charged range is 16 miles at normal speeds and good driving conditions in Max eDrive and Eco Pro. First and foremost it's a 3 series in full glory and compliment. The hybrid function adds not only better fuel economy but heightens the overall driving experience. Super silent movement and the bonus of an additional 80+bhp from the electric unit is enviable. Business and company car drivers and let's face it they are the majority are winners here given the BIK and city concessions. A full charge from a domestic unit can take upto 3.5hrs. it's no heartache, takes two minutes and it's easy to monitor. Driver manner is key in achieving the best economic results but a typical charge on our tariff is only 48p. The daily commute to and from the office is nearly 14 miles round trip. So a single charge in the evening covers this. Motorway driving using the cruise control at 70mph can return 46-50mpg easily with three adults and one child. it's horses for courses. We benefit two fold , less than £3 a week to and from work and the very low BIK rate. The car however, is an absolute pleasure to drive and has fantastic power and performance over and above the 320 and 328. This technology is fast approaching and will be better and cheaper.
    We've come from a 2013 A3 Sportback Diesel that we loved. We used £60 per month fuel regularly, we're now lucky to burn £15 petrol in the 330 and it's three times the car costing less in tax....
    Yet to try a public charge point as we only have the supplied domestic charger. So far, so good.
    one bad point though, voice control is not activated? it's an option! That's a joke.

      even my 15 year old BMW 3 series still gets almost 50mpg at 70mph and a Diesel even more. The benefit of a hybrid arent really there on motorway cruising.

      KingProne Motorway /Long journeys are cheaper too. Only last Sunday I done a 104 miles round trip. Started out on a full charge achieving 18:8 miles at 70+ then the engine kicked in. I switched to save mode so it recharged the battery to 50% in approximately 9-10 miles. Reverted to Electric and covered another 9 miles so on and so forth for the journey. All for the hassle of hitting a switch... When I reviewed the trip stats I burnt a total of 4.2 litres of fuel. In UK money terms, £4:60 plus a home charge @ 39p "new tariff rate " In short, 104 miles for less than a fiver! A diesel would burn £10+ as our 2013 A3 did. There's the value.
      All at Motorway speeds.

      so 2.6L/100km. I highly doubt this, even if you cheat a bit by driving off with a full battey on a relativley short journey. At motorway crusing a hybrid offers hardly any advantages

      thats what i mean though. Unless you really drive a fucklot you will not really save as you pay quite a hefty premium upfront, i.e. for a BMW hybrid rather than the nonhybrid model. Not to mention that some of the bmw hybrids are actually really inefficient in ICE mode due to the added weight of the hybrid technology. The BMW 2 series plug in hybrid is afaik 14000 euros more expensive than the nonhybrid. With the current petrol prices you will be making money after you have driven over 150k kilometers and made that money back. If you then buy the diesel model because you drive a lot you can never catch up. And remember Diesels are also quite efficient in city traffic.

      @@carumgrewal Lol. Funny, but I'm not sure if the comment refers to the battery expiring permanently. Some hybrid cars will not operate at all when the battery dies.

    148 mpg??? I've owned this car for over a year and never seen 100mpg. Although I was driving local and kept charging it everyday and I got up to 80 mpg that's me driving local and always on electric mode for 14 days straight.
    Fuel tank is I think 40 litre and from a full tank without charging and driving in London max I got was 220 miles roughly 27-29 mpg. (Avarage I get is 180-200)
    Motorway driving I got 420 from full tank so that was OK. Either than that this review was 100% accurate.

      @@muhammadrenuman3369 if your thinking using it to avoid congestion charge till Oct 2021 then its a good option but merc is much better look and tech wise and abit more expensive.

    After having diesels for years, with the government's war on diesel I'll most probably look to get one of these in Msport spec in the next 3 years, Or the version that came before this the 335i Hybrid. Or worst way I'll get a 220i in between, but this video was very informative, keep up the good work 🤗

    Great review. I've had my 330e since March 2016 & it is an excellent car. If you commute less than 14 miles (which is the actual range you get on pure electric, allowing for use of aircon, etc) & can plug in at work & home then you can make some decent fuel savings. However the main saving is if you are a business user - the BIK for the 330e is so much less than for comparable diesel or petrol models. Ultimately though this is just another great BMW - fun to drive & very refined. Sadly BMW seems to have woefully underestimated the demand for this model - if you order one now in the UK it won't turn up until 2017!

      Philip, what sort of MPG do you get? they state on here 50 plus mpg however I've seen on some forums people reporting 37s. I sit in traffic for 20 mins then do a 16 mile drive up the motorway, I'd be happy with anything over 45!

      Hi James I reckon you should get between 40 & 45mpg on your run. Yes the 330e will drop down into the 30s on a run purely using the ICE (although on long runs we've had it into the early 40s) however the electric motor would deal with your period in traffic & at least part of your motorway run, if traffic is slow or you switch to maximum EV (electric only). If you can't charge at the other end however you are probably looking at ICE all the way home, bringing down the average of course.

      Simple. Lexus cars (unless it's an LFA) are boring, these are fun! You can also treat it as a low range electric car and just drive on electric if you don't cover many miles a day, because you can plug it in whenever at home or near a Type 2 charger! The Lexus (Toyota) drive system was revolutionary 20 years ago, but its old now. It doesn't 'plug in' and does "self charge" - but all electric cars do this, including the BMW! The Lexus battery is tiny and only good for about 1.5 miles, 2.4 km - so the petrol engine comes in, not such a great improvement in design from 20 years ago!
      There's lots of other plug-in cars of course, but the sportiest is this car and the VW Golf GTE!
      Then there's always full electric, if you can afford their premium and charge at home!

    I'm not ripping on this car, but it's interesting that this car, the new Volvo and a handful of other dual system vehicles are basically copies of the Chevy Volt that many laughed at five years ago. GM is not perfect, but they were ahead of the game on this one.

    Black dot in front of the front wheels? Side facing cameras?
    The 330e seems like a great package. I drive a new 330d so I'm wondering how the various e-drive modes change according to the drive modes? Then you have the sport mode on the gearbox too. Seems like too many options even before the e-mode (e-drive?) modes come into play. First world problem!

      +Mark Blackmore Indeed, back on the South coast. You can blame the Range Rover Evoque Convertible for the dot. Must have been some mud from when filming with that car.
      Drive modes just change steering weight and throttle response so they operate within whatever eDrive mode you have selected.

      +Inside Lane they also change gear change points and I'm wondering how that choice is make now in relegation to the e-mode. Which changes the torque available. Unless the gearbox just senses that and makes the decision based on realtime measurement rather than from a lookup table? Anyway, too technical for a Friday at that point!

      @@n1kurd they changed the laws any car after 2017 regardless is taxed as they were losing out with free road tax cars or low tax cars etc .

    Great review , disappointing car , I mean the extra 8K can't be justified
    this sort of money is enough to pay for 8 years of fuel and is not like this hybrid runs on water , 50 mpg is nothing special for a hybrid , most diesels get that

      however we cant talk about savings after paying 8k more for a vehicle , in 14 year you wouldn't get your money back , specially considering its disappointing 50 MPG

      agreed,a 2008 BMW 2L diesel gets roughly 50mpg at 150kmh/90mph

      The point is that for a business user it costs less not more than a diesel because it's in the sub 50g CO2 tax bracket. Diesels also have a 3% premium over the equivalent petrol.

    It's misleading to says it's performance , once the battery is flat , it's an ordinary 320i

      +gav Not misleading at all. If you run out of battery in this car then you are not using it correctly. You don't drive flat out all the time and when the car is cruising the engine will charge the battery. You should always have performance when you need it.

      I remember reading somewhere that BMW's philosophy with this car is , why carry around batteries if you're not going to use them. So they programmed it to make as much use of the batteries and empty them out. Which is in line with having a button that will force the system to save battery power otherwise it will just drain them. Charging batteries while on the go means it's extra load on the engine taking away performance.
      Misleading is probably not the right word but i wouldn't say it's hot hatch once the battery is flat

      Either way to me, once the batteries are drained it's a regular 320i, spending time charging batteries

      This car never let's the bettery "run flat." It will switch over and start charging ,even if it says 0% battery avilable .. You will always have 248hp and whatever the torque rating is 315 lb ft? .. Although I guess it would be possible to run the battery flat by doing 50 0-60 times back to back with no respit, but you're never going to be running on 320i hp alone in the real world or even on the track for that matter.

    How is an MPG figure in the "high 50's" "not that bad" when its quoted MPG is in the 140's? Its nearly a third. It's shite.

    PHEV - twice the complexity, twice the weight, twice the maintenance. Go electric? Buy the i3. Go petrol? Buy the 320i.

      @@Birmingham_racing With a PHEV you have a combustion engine, transmission and fuel tank. You also have battery pack, motor, reduction gear and the mechanical interface between the two systems - hence my comment about twice the weight. You have all the maintenance of a combustion engine, AND all the new tech risk of a motor, inverter pack, on-board charger and battery pack. Not such a concern under warranty, but what about when the vehicle is 5, 6, 7 years old and things start to go wrong?

      @@simonreeves2017 tell me how much does a normal 3 series and how much a 330e weighs? My brother has a 2006 Lexus GS hybrid he was no issues relating to the battery. Only issue you might have is battery needs reconditioning and that's not massively expensive

      the i3 prototype (ActivE) was essentially a fully electric BMW 2 series with a 32kw (!) battery back in 2012. 5 years later this could have easily been a 40kwh car. Why do we instead have the crappy i3? Because BMW does not want to produce an elegant electric car with good range.

      +KingProne Not when it comes to city driving. Also if your daily drive is within the electric range you need never use the fuel.

      Inside Lane indeed, horses for courses and it's not for everyone. But it puts a very powerful vehicle returning above average mpg in the lowest BIK bracket. Ultra smooth, ultra quiet, ultra clean and far less trips to the forecourt. I certainly don't miss the honk of dirty diesel. Although I still have to drive my Transit Custom lol.. IMHO, a fantastic car that sits right with our needs and more.
