These do make great smokers and grills. However, I bought me a 55-gallon barrel that was filled with corn oil. I cleaned it very well and then proceeded to buy some metal handles for the sides and top lid. I personally built my grill, rack and fire pit by hand using some old scrap metal lying around the shop. After all was welded up, I painted it with High Heat Spray Paint. Total investment: $55.00 including the paint. Total build time: 3 hours.
Had mine 9 months.. It was a great find.. it's just me and my wife. No monster cookouts. I use mine twice a week and it comes out perfect every time.. the catch pan is a must.. kingsford slowburn charcoal works great for long cooks.. It doubles as a grill..
im building one of these I have about 65-70 bucks in it total . I realy like the way they smoke . the difference in mine is I have a heat baffle above the charcoal /heat and I put in a door on the bottom so I can add wood chuncks with out having to put it in through the top .
Cool stuff. I think I’m getting one for father’s day. Can’t wait! I do, however, think the ash catcher should come standard. Most any other charcoal grill on the market comes with an ash catcher.
joe watson I took it to 165° hanging in then and took it off wrapped it and laid it flat until it reached 200. Then I took it off the heat wrapped it in a towel and let it sit for two hours. Probably wasn’t the largest brisket but there’s lots of great videos of how to monitor your temperature with the pit barrel cooker.
I haven't seen your newer content I've just stumbled across this one but if you haven't already speed it up. Explain what the product is and keep things moving.
G'day what a great grill! It's well made has everything you need to start smoking or grilling and they supply even the screw driver and spanner to attach the lid to it great! I only wish that you could buy them down here in Australia, we still have not gotten over our thinking that you need a gas bbq to cook with, I use charcoal and smoke and grill with it and it's terrific thanks for showing it in detail kind regards John Tasmania Australia.
I haven't used mine in awhile but I'm going to have to do another cook on it. They are a great company with a great product that works. It's a great rib machine too!
Im sure you could mod it out to add a pan. As is sets now not really any place to put one. But when it has food in it the temp is alot lower. 250 to 275 ish.
You know when someone has an idea that's so smart because everyone is so stupid? People have been making these things for years. My grandfather made one out of a road culvert about 60 years ago. It could fit over 40 rings of garlic sausage in 1 cook. Edit: like seriously, its ridiculously easy to make one of these for yourself with a few oil drums and some basic tools and it'll fit your needs a lot better in the long run.
I always add chunks of wood. Just did not in this one since I was not cooking. My magic combo is pecan and hickory. Thanks for checking it out. Also check out some of my other videos featuring the PBC. I show what woods I use in them.
No problem, and here's a tip for anyone not willing to spend the money on a ash cather. Me and others just use a 16 cake pan. LIke this one I bought used for cheap. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C0N8BZ6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I agree those are good temps to smoke at. I use them all the time too. However I have used 275 alot and food still comes out outstanding. Thanks for checking it out.
TheHollarBBQ yeah man it looks great. I’m thinking about starting my own channel and I have been looking for a good starter camera. I might give the iPhone a shot first. Love the pit barrel btw. I have one myself and love it. Keep it up!
Chris L I'm not done with the Silverbac. I have many more cooks planned for it. And yes anything I cook on the barrel can be cooked on the silverbac. The pit runs between 275 and 325. I will alway recommend a temp in the video to let you know what to run at. You can never have to many cooking options! Lol smoke on brother.
1. How do you regulate the temperature on these pit barrels? Is it the vent at the bottom? 2. I noticed alot of coal ash floating around. Is that a problem with it getting all over your meats?
Crunch the vent at the bottom should be placed at the recommendation from Pit Barrel. You shouldn’t have to be touching it once set. What I do is light it just like pit barrel says. If the temp is too low just crack the lid just a bit. Like maybe half inch. That will raise the temp. Once it gets where you want it shut it back down. But don’t touch that bottom vent. I don’t get ash from my coals when cooking only when cleaning it out. What coals are you using?
@@TheHollarBBQI don't have one of these pit barrel cookers yet. I noticed alot of ash floating around in your video when you opened the lid. I was just concerned if it would coat the food. As for coals that I use its either Kingsford or Royal Oak.
Crunch no need to worry about ash. The camera will pick up stuff you might not see otherwise. Kinda like when the sun shines in your house and you see the dust floating around. No more ash than any other cooker. Thanks for the questions and Merry Christmas brother.
PBCs are what you call set it and forget it you set the vent at the bottom for whatever the Pit Barrel Cooker Company says and the air is regulated by the amount of hole in the bottom and with the rebars that goes through the holes at the top you just lit your coals put your food in put the lid on and walk away and let it do its thing
This is from their website. The Pit Barrel® Cooker Company remains a family-run business, headquartered in Prospect, KY. Thanks for checking it out man.
$300 for an old drum, some re-bar, and the stuff that comes with a $20 grill... why? BTW starting your coals in the smoker, you added a lot of extra unnecessary ash...
@@TheHollarBBQ I'm sorry, I meant my comment to be funny it wasn't. I Apologize. I enjoyed the video and your presentation, along with the southern speak!
italianrelic sorry you feel that way brother. I would invite you to watch some of my newer stuff before you make that decision. I work very hard to improve. Thanks for checking it out anyways.
Had mine over 2 years and it works great exactly as designed. At least 100 cooks later still a beast.
Yeah man I can see me cooking on this thing for years to come. Thanks for watching.
My Weber Smokey Mountain has collected dust since I got my pit barrel.

Chris McDowell you will really enjoy it. I really have. I agree on the ash catcher. Thanks for watching brother.
I live in OKC OK metro area and my first cook was well over 6 hours of heat. Did brisket then potatoes and corn. Very happy with it.
Yeah I love my PBC. Everything I have cooked on it comes out awesome.
looking at getting one of these. I;m guessing you cooked a small brisket? Brisket typically takes longer than 6 hrs to cook.

Thats it, im getting the ash catcher and the turkey hanger!
A tinfoil boat under the burner works just as well
It does...but not as well as the catcher, its amazing, as is the turkeys on the hanger. 10/10 would recommend.
I love my pit barrel cooker! I already have 4 little culinary experts or I would be all over Marmaduke!
