Im thinking installing a Spc hybrid floating floor. Do i still need to prime the floor as i was told I don’t need to apply underlay because it has a build in underlayment in the plank
Good video. Very educational. I noticed you scooped the moisture barrier up the walls. I was wondering, have you ever had to rip out other people's work where they installed the poly wrong? It's my understanding, if it's not done right, mold and musty odors can occur. Ever discovered problems like this with old flooring installs?
Hi Vladimir, for each material manufacturer giving recommendation. Read instruction, and just follow it. This poly film I put for protection floor from moisture. Thanks!
I faced with a comic situation. Just bought 3 rolls and 1 piece of Quick Step Transitsound underlay. They are identical but instructions are different. Instruction from rolls tells me to install it with film on top. The instruction for 1 piece - install it with film on bottom. I have a small conversation with manufacturer. They told me that both materials are identical (just from different consignments), but in order to get some certificate they changed instructions. Eventually I decided to install all of it with film facing down.
Awesome video. So this floor is entirely floating because it uses no nails for install? Also I noticed u have expansion gap on both ends, how big should the distance be left from the floor to the wall?
Hi Nicholas, yes this floor is floating because freely moving from side to side. Not nailed or glued to subfloor. Gap between flooring and walls should be 1/4”. Thanks
Now THAT Mr YouCanDoItYourself video w's far better -- only thing I would like to see is how laminate is cut when pieces are wider than the final row, and around edges of cabinetry. But thanks, this was much clearer -- and the foam at base of wall was genius!
I probably wouldn't use plastic underneath the flooring because it will probably sweat I'd use a breathable foam matting. Good video though. Looks nice.
Our concrete floor had carpet on it prior to a water line bursting. Now we would like to install hardwood or laminate flooring and need to know what kind of preparation the concrete needs prior to the new installation? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
There are TWO ways: 1. a) You should disconnect your dishwasher from the water pipe (If you can't do it - invite a plumber) b) pull out c) install your floor d) put dishwasher back and connect again. 2. There is a small part of dishwasher on the bottom of face (under main door). a) You should loosen the screws and lift it up. b) slide in and install floor (till the dishwasher's legs) c) put that small part back.
Hi I watched your video cause I'm wanting to replace old carpeting in both my bedrooms that have conceret floors underneath it was very helpful. Now can you recommend a reputable flooring company other than Luna or impire are you located in the Chicago area?
+Diane Bryant I am living in Canada. Ask your friends, co-workers or neighbors who already installed the floor and ask their recommendations. Anyway, thank you for watching my videos.
Did I miss something? I was expecting some kind of dialog, not just a fast-forward of an installation. Too many questions: What is the plastic underneath it? What kind of tape is that? How close to the walls should I get? Do I need glue? Does laminate shrink? I've seen laminate that appears to have shrunk and I'm concerned about using it at all. I'll check your other tutorials, but this one, while interesting, only raises more questions.
+lindamermaid 1. Underneath - regular poly (from Home Depot) 2. I used masking tape. 3.1/4" to the wall 4. If you have click-system laminate you don't need glue. 5.That laminate didn't shrink. If you have more question, I am here to help you.
Thanks for the example video. I'm about to start on a 6 meter x 6 meter floor. The videos I've watched all generalise about the expansion gap along the wall - some say 6mm, some 10mm, some 12 mm. Obviously, this is in proportion to the size of the room. But why does no one actually mention the ratio as a rule of thumb. Is it 0.1%, DOUBLE that or TRIPLE? What if my boards are already fully expanded during installation, due to weather conditions, and a few weeks AFTER installation they dry out and the gap INCREASES? How do you cope with such arbitrary tolerances?
Good video. Only thing I didn't like is your video started after you had already installed several rows. I'd start it with the first board where you have to put the spacers in to set the original gap. I have done three floor in my life...the first one started out horrific, but by the end of it I was a pro. My next two floors (dining room and a powder room) were actually pretty good. I will be doing laminate in a kitchen of a house I just bought to rent out so I am looking forward to that. No appliances in yet either so the job should be easy.
Hi Kevin, you can find out some my videos how to start and tricks. For rent I would be recommended install vinyl planks. This material durable and no problem with water leaking in the kitchen area. Home depot selling this planks. Same lock system, like laminate floor. Thanks for watching!
Hi, I always used spacers on my project s, when I did video compilation it hard to make everything in one video, and sometimes I filmed not all process. Sorry. Thanks for commenting!
What about the black mold that forms between the concrete and the plastic sheeting you are putting over the concrete? Why are you not telling your customers about that? Once you put the plastic sheeting down the concrete can no longer breathe and it forms a black mold in the customers House
Another awesome video. Problem is people these days are too stupid and useless that they can't just follow actions and must have every single little detail explained. Keep up the great work.
Here's why this video is poor. I can cut boards to size, don't need to see that. I can interlock boards. Don't need to see that. What I need to see is whether you're leaving a floating gap at the end of the boards or are you butting the boards snug to the cabinets? Are you using backer rod and silicone? Are you covering with kicktoe or quarter-round? Are you leaving extra float space on the other side of the floor? You're just here for the affiliate commission on your links, ain't ya buddy.
I have a few new videos where I explain everything. Check my channel please. Thanks! For example this one - How To Install Laminate Flooring Without Secrets MrYoucandoityourself ua-cam.com/video/8C5nZKq9ZtE/v-deo.html
Came for the flooring. Stayed for the sick bass line.💃

Excellent demo..I'm doing two bedrooms tomorrow..Eekkkk!..You gave me confidence..Thank you
Good luck with your project!

No reason to put primer.
MrYouCanDoItYourself, whats that tool called at 1:06 that you use to cut the boards?
It’s call laminate cutter. You can find link in description to Amazon.

MrYoucandoityourself u da man!!! Thanks for the reply back
Welcome my friend!
Question: if your installing laminate in kitchen is it okay not to lay laminate under appliances?
Hi, Yes you can. Just edge don't should be visible.
do you need glue? what goes under the floor
Here is floating type of floor installation. Glue don't need.
hello, so no need to glue tongue and groove?
No need, because it's klick system.

cherryb1115 You need make your concrete subfloor even. I have several videos about concrete floor leveling and preparation.
+MrYoucandoityourself What if you dont make it level first?
You'll waste your money. In one-two years you'll need to replace your laminate because locks will be broken.
Thanks for the video. I have a question. What do you do when you want to pullout the dishwasher?
There are TWO ways:
1. a) You should disconnect your dishwasher from the water pipe (If you can't do it - invite a plumber)
b) pull out
c) install your floor
d) put dishwasher back and connect again.
2. There is a small part of dishwasher on the bottom of face (under main door). a) You should loosen the screws and lift it up.

How much of a gap is needed along the walls to account for expansion?
+Dale McClain 1/4" to 1/2" at most
How do you go around/under decor ends?
If it’s possible, undercut decor and slide in boards. Then cover gap with base shoe. Thanks
One quick question here, how do i know when to make a glue down job? are there ant type of wood that should not be glued?
Usually we do not glue solid wood. The best way to do it - enginering hardwood. You can glue it on concrete and wood subfloor.

Yes, but it brings a lot of dust.

Do not understand your question.
MrYoucandoityourself Did you pad or not?
MrYoucandoityourself
This laminate floor already has cork underlayment, I just add only poly to make moisture protection.
:-)
how soon can you walk on the floor, is what i wanted to know
Hi Nancy, there is no waiting period, just finish floor and baseboards or shoe bases and go. Thanks for your question.
Is it different size in the package?
There is one size only.
