So for the execution, if I had to guess, was that she wanted to die in an extravagent way like that, so Monokuma killed her in a boring average way- getting run over.

A lot of changes were made to the game mid development,
Which they said included every punishment besides the first one they made,
Which based on context clues they gave would've been Leon's.
Celeste's punishment very much feels like they made a compromise,
Less slow, painful and emotional,
And more fast, disrespectful and cartoony.
However unlike the previous one,
Everything in Celeste's punishment feels deliberate,
At least moreso than the whole butter thing.
@@BramLastname The butter thing is a refernce to and old Book titled "Little Black Sambo" which is a racist term here in America but the book is still popular in Japan. In one part the hero turns two tigers into molasses for panckes by making them run in circles so fast that they liquified or something. I actually read acopy at my great Aunt's house back in the 70's when I would have been around 5 so don't ask me any particulars I just know that Japan still publishes the book (don't know about America or Europe)

one thing about celeste’s character is her fear of being considered normal, it’s why she changed her name and why she wanted to die via burning the stake, but monokuma won’t allow her to have something she wants so she was killed in a car accident: one of the most common deaths

she is definitely one of the more interesting characters we have had in this franchise for sure! She was hiding a LOT and I love the VA for this character too! (if only she hadn't done what she did :( )

btw, the reason celeste got slammed by that truck is because she always wanted a fancy and unique way to die..so being burnt alive made her somehow happy but monokuma wanted make her feel despair until the very the end by giving her the most common way to die, car accidents. :)

Yeah I love that detail, I feel like Monokuma making them experience as much despair as possible during death is especially prevalent in DR2 and V3. Not only did they get zanier with future executions but there’s so much more to unpack with each of them it’s so interesting!
If you thought this chapter was wild then buckle up, it's only gonna get crazier from here on out. The next one specifically is one of my favorite chapters in the entire series.
Fun fact, but Celeste plan was actually perfect and logical exept for ONE mistake, that ruined her plan. If she hadn't made that mistake, she would probably got away with murder.
And that's not her slip up, not her actions, not even her name... but the mere fact that she chose Hifumi as her partner in crime.
After all, it was Hifumi who botched almost everything he touched in this case:
1. He broke Taka's wristwatch when he killed him, and that gave away the order of the murders.
2. Hifumi did a sloppy job retrieving the note from Taka, and that gave away the fact, that Celeste tried to make this case to look like one string of events..
3. Hifumi went overboard with blood on his face when he acted, and on top of that he left a blody cloth that gave away his whole "dead act".
4. He also run the dolly through the blood, giving away the method of the body transportation mystery.
5. Even the Robo-Justice suit, his cosplaying pride, had a mistake - Hifumi totally forgot to forge Hiro's handwriting, effectively destroying a solid fake evidence against Hiro.
6. And finally, he did tell the others the name of his killer, which became final nail in Celeste's coffin.
Every. Single. Part. Of the plan. Was ruined by Hifumi.
Celeste, on the other hand, was implicated solely based on 4 things:
1. Suspicion via association to Hifumi. Hifumi did a lot of shady stuff. Naturally, someone with similar story will be deemed sus.
2. Hifumi's name calling on the death bed. It did complicated the case, but in the end it fingered the culprit.
3. The "those guys" slip-up. That's not evidence by itself, but it's still suspicious, especially with all the other evidence on top of it.
4. Extremely active role in the development of the case: she was one of the supposed "victims", she had "photo evidence", she also lead all students to the second floor, and later - to the third one, she was the one who proposed to split, she even was the one who "found" the bodies,. As Byakuya had said, "each action isn't much by itself, but add them together, and the picture becomes ugly indeed".
And, as you can see, out of those 4 things, 2 of them are not her fault at all, and other 2 are not hard evidence against her whatsoever.
If not for Hifumi, her plan would have been perfect.
Her only mistake - choosing him as the accomplice.
Which is ironically funny: to secure a win, the Ultimate Gambler decided to play it safe and chose to manipulate the simple minded person. But that "safest bet" became her doom, literally. A person, who specialises on making risky bets, died because she made the safe bet...
Third chapter may be not the strongest one in this game in terms of the detective part, but i like it wholeheartedly. It's filled to the brim with nuanced allegories and readings between the lines. And i LOVE it.
i didn't really get the "those guys" part, she could've meant the people that have already died😭

The executions are perfectly designed to fit the blackened's worst despair
For Leon, it is by dying to the very icon of his career that he loathes, a baseball...
For Mondo, it is also by dying in a motor, just like how his older brother died
(Cute fact: If Daiya and Mondo are together, it would be DaiyaMondo, which is their gang's name, Crazy Diamonds)
And, as everyone says in the comments,
For Celeste, she hates nomalcy, she hates that her name is normal, she hates that her family status is normal, everything about her us normal...
At first, she is quite satisfied with her execution, to die like a witch in not common in this period of time, but dying due to being ran over is the most common death, in other words, normal...and she hates that with every fiber of her being

I support women's rights but I also support women's wrongs. Also, she did it in order to have an European castle with vampire butlers and I think that's very valid.
First off, great video! Your danganronpa playthrough is so fun.
Secondly, as much fun Celeste and her breakdown is, this trial is a bit of a slog. This trial, and the absorption mechanic in general, really brushes up against a pretty common problem in puzzle or mystery games. It’s really frustrating when you realize what the game wants you to realize, but just can’t figure out the exact way the game wants you to express it to progress the story.

That’s the thing about the mechanics in danganronpa. When I played, it took me a while to get to each class trial and by the time I did I had forgotten the controls let alone the mechanics. So thats a relatable feeling to me.

To be clear at the beginning, they didn't leave Taka's body knowing that Hifumi's had disappeared. They had all left Taka's body before that knowledge had even been known. Not really something they could have knowingly prevented. They probably should have left a couple people at the crime scene to keep it from being tampered with, but they didn't knowingly leave a body knowing that the other had vanished.
Man, Celeste's make me sad. It's like she said, she deceives herself to keep her emotions in check, she was trying hard to keep it together, but the whole situation took a toll on her harder than maybe even Sayaka
Honestly, I can certainly relate to the way she deals with her emotions since I also often try to withhold them.😞
For future reference, you can use the focus gauge (the slow-mo kajigger) during Bullet Time Battle when the other person is using theirs to nullify the thing blocking your view. Using it any other time during BTB let's you not have to worry about hitting the buttons with the correct timing. I believe it also gives you infinite ammo but that might be either the second or third game. It's really helpful when stuff gets hectic since having to redo stuff always sucks. I don't think the game ever tells you directly either, which is kinda weird.
Taka got done dirty. Felt like he definitely had more character development to go through, but sometimes that's the way it goes. His story got cut short.
Agree that the trial was maybe a little on the clumsy side. I like parts of it. The idea of an accomplice is kind of tough to pull off in a story like this, and I think it was done _decently_ well, but it does feel a bit unfocused.
The chapter 3 curse lol (though I am in the minority that think chapter 3 in DR2 was pretty well done and people were being harsher on expecting real world logic than any other case in the series, some of which are even more illogical in how the killer manoeuvred as quick as they did).

The goal of the execution: She wanted to be executed in an extravagant way, just like her dear medieval europeans. But getting run over by a truck is Japan's most common cause of death... reminding her of her reality. She's not some fancy european princess by the name of Celestia Ludenberg, she's Taeko Yasuhiro, a regular japanese high-schooler

i like how celeste was said to be a great liar multiple times yet put on the most obvious fake performance during the whole robo justice thing
My favorite part of this trial is how much of a power trio Makoto, Kyoko, and Byakuya are. The moment the trial starts they immediately discard the elaborate set up Celeste did, prove Hiro to be innocent, and then proceed to work together like a well oiled machine for the rest of the trial to show Celeste was the culprit. I don't think there is a single second during the trial where Celeste actually has the upper hand, she didn't stand a chance. I love to imagine Celeste freaking out on the inside the second she realizes the 3 smartest people in the group saw past her entire ruse, are on to her, and are actually working as a team for once.
Also, Celeste was right. "Yasuhiro" IS a loser's name.

Celeste is basically Sayaka if she went off the deep end. In ways at least.
You do have to admit though, this woman took her punishment like a CHAMP. She was obviously full of despair, but didn't let that show on her face at all. I also read a comment that said that the fire truck came in to deny her her wish to die in a flashy way, but ultimately it worked just like a guillotine: No more having to fake bravery through a fiery death, just clean and utter... salvation.
Edit: Oh yeah, no matter how much Hifumi messed up, if only she didn't kill him everything would have gone according to plan. I suppose, even though it's all planned out, she must have let her emotions get the better of her when she killed him.
I’ve always loved Celeste. I have a thing for unrepentant bitch characters, they’re just so fun to watch. Not to mention the voice actress having to fluctuate between accents, the way you can hear her fighting to keep that French accent, is soooooo good. One of my favorite bits of voice acting from the series as far as breakdowns go.
However, I also have to respect that she didn’t rat Alter Ego out.

I agree with a lot of the points that you make here. Especially how amazing the voice actress was in the role.
Although, Celeste is not actually as coldhearted as people think of her. Her Celeste personality was just a facade that Taeko used to hide her insecurities and to not be seen as weak. Also, she was lying about thinking nothing of sacrificing others for her own ends. Right before she gets executed she says, "Will it really give you the hope you’re looking for? I can’t say I ever saw it that way. Which is why…actually, it’s not important. Well then…take care, everyone. Perhaps we’ll meet again, in another life." She almost comes clean that she never wanted to kill anyone and only did so because she lost hope of escape before stopping just short of admitting it.
@Luigifanboy1123 No I know that. “Unrepentant bitch” is kind of a general term I use for characters that can be downright nasty and never outright apologize for their actions or openly show remorse. I use the term for Larxene in KH as well even though obviously there’s depth there. But in Chain of Memories she was just… awful. And I loved her for it. Although I do also use this term for characters like Dahlia in Ace Attorney where it is more than fitting. It’s a spectrum.
All this to say that I’m very much aware that Celeste - Teako - was a very insecure individual that hid behind an accent and gothic lolita fashion to make sure people at least remembered her.

honestly, DR1 is probably the weakest storywise of the main titles. 2 and v3 have stronger writing. But that can be chalked up to the devs kinda changing up things mid development of this, and not quite hitting their stride yet.
This chapter is one of the most hated in the series, and is considered (one of) the easiest because it’s too obvious
Oh FR??? I didn't think it was too bad but there were aspects of it that either were obvious or just didn't make sense. But tbf cuz of who it killed off I was sad :( excited for the next chapter tho!!

Yeah, personally Dr1 trial 3 is my least favourite trial in all of Danganronpa, and one of my least favourite chapters as well. A lot of things could have been done better.
Any plans on playing Dr2 and Dr v3? Each game is better than the previous and quality increases a lot, too!

IMPORTANT: Danganronpa 3 and v3 are completely different and separate to each other, they just happen to have similar names. And again, if you do more Danganronpa, you're only required to play 1, 2 and v3, but I recommend at least watching a summary of the rest to get the full picture, because the others expand on world building, characters, give explanations to questions you wouldn't have an answer to otherwise, etc
Honestly I find Case 3 in the 2nd game to be much worse.
@@v.emiltheii-nd.8094 A lot of people don't like it, and I can see why (that change of plans), but I really like that case. I think all dr2 and v3 cases are pretty equal. Only dr1 cases can get a bit lackluster imo

I would've liked it way better if dr2 case 3 victims were ibuki and fuyuhiko like originally intended, or even ibuki and sonia, since she completely nullifies any chance of kazuichi's character developing, and sonia herself is quite... bland
@@adva1282 I would say that even withoutits defaults, Dr2 case 3 is lackluster compared to case 4 or case 5 which are really interesting in what dynamic they explore.

To be fair, it seems it's hard to get a proper motive for 2 kills to be justified so I guess that makes the whole case seem somewhat unjustified.
