Invention of stereo sound: Alan Blumlein - 'Walking and Talking'

- A film made by EMI engineer Alan Blumlein, the inventor of stereo sound, to demonstrate his creation.
Alan lodged the patent for what he called 'binaural' sound in 1931, in a paper which patented stereo records, stereo films and also surround sound. He and his colleagues made a series of experimental recordings and films to demonstrate the technology.
Much of the technology pioneered by Alan is still in use at Abbey Road Studios today. - Наука та технологія
my grandad Frank "Felix" Trott on the clapper and walking n talking. Spent his entire life at EMI carrying on the work on Stereo, Radar, Television etc ( Chief Engineer, Commercial ) after giving up his place and hence not dying alongside Blumlein on the Halifax in 1942.
I love inventions where people are clever enough to discover stuff and decades later I still don't understand it, even when it's explained.
If you've ever watched a roadie testing the vocal microphones before a gig, you'll know that they rarely count higher than two. These guys are clearly waaay smarter.
😂
This is WAY better than "Revolution #9". That is was made in the same studio makes it BETTER!
ASMR back in the day
Number 9, number 9, number 9....
This is the year I was born, i he has been one of my idols. Was lucky enough to meet his two sons just before they sold the family hotel in St Ives in 2007. People should read his biography, there are two actually.
Wait, so you're 92 years old? I can't imagine how it feels seeing the world evolve all the way from WWII and the great depression, only Radio instead of TV, to having the Internet and being able to leave comments on UA-cam videos.
The white coats make it look really scientific.
It WAS scientific. Blumlein was an engineering scientist.
all jokes aside, what a brain to come up with this miking concept..great man
recorded at EMI Hayes Middlesex.
Love it.
The balance is shifted somewhat to the right, but it is stereo!
May be occurred during the digital conversion. I might be wrong.
Still a better love story than Titanic.
Brilliant
Alan Dower Blumlein (1909-1942)
Right there! second after the clap (at 1:27)
Thank you Abbey Road Studio, most excellent video on youtube so far!
May i ask a special discount on my next 45RPM cut at Abbey Road Studios?? i am the first to spot him on the film! hahaha (-:
The guy with the glasses?
Yes, wearing the glasses is Alan Blumlein ❤
Almost 10 years have passed and yet this is still the best video on UA-cam so far
You know about the mic to determine this stereo process but if we use daw it does not work. I know the left right and center are already there but your ear is a train you can feel it. And if you work in this sound field you must be concerned about that process.
Ah, one do I say, one do I say, one do I say, one do I say then surely two should follow, two should follow, two should follow, two should follow.
Cooool
It sound more mono.the 1934 experiments the separations are better
That is the point, you don't hear things purely through one ear, that would be unrealistic.
Um.. this is NOT AT ALL mono.
Einstein on the beach!
левый микрофон бракованный, тихий
Couldn’t think of much to say, I guess just count.
This was clearly before the digital era, otherwise they would have restarted at 1 after reaching 8.
