    I clicked on this vid for info on The Big Country (you saved me from buying the MGM version), but learned about so many films I otherwise may not have discovered for years to come. Easily the best physical media channel I've found! You are extremely good at explaining what makes a film worth viewing and who it might appeal to, while also covering technical quality of the release so us viewers can make an informed purchase.

    I would recommend picking up Two Mules for Sister Sara! It looks fantastic with the new scan! Eastwoods textured sweater pops right off the screen!

    Thanks for the heads-up on the sale! While watching your video I shopped on their site and ordered I little bit of of several genres. They arrived today: the two Kolchak TV movies, The Quatermass Xperiment, Suppose They Gave A War & Nobody Came, 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Murder By Decree, and Bava's Black Sunday. Great stuff!

      Sounds like a great selection. Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching!
      Quatermass is easily the best release to date and once the Kolchak films are sold out it’s unlikely Disney will relicense them.

    Thank you. I had not considered Captain Marvel or The Quatermass Xperiment. Many great choices here, also the Cohen Media Group the discs. I tend to like the old British films from the 1940s-60s that Kino offers from Ealing Studios and others. Movies like It only Rains on Sunday, The Man in the White Suit, The Night My Number Came Up, The Man Between, etc. so many great British films from that period that Kino has.

    You're channel's the best, man!! Thanks so much for so thoroughly going over these Kino title recommendations. I think my tastes and interests in film align perfectly with yours. Because of your recommendations, I have placed yet another Kino order, adding the W.C. Fields movies, Broken Arrow, The Lost Weekend, Lonely Are the Brave, and A Farewell to Arms blu rays to my collection. At some point, I am hoping you might find the time and consider doing an overview of your complete collection. That would be fantastic 😀

      I should do something similar to my record and LD videos.
      Glad you got those titles. I’m still fiddling around with my order trying to stretch as far as I can with all the other sales going on.

      A complete DVD and/or BD Collection Overview Series of your collection like you did for Laserdiscs would be of course just awesome and very welcome for sure!

      Having this classic on BD in widescreen with extras is something I never thought would happen. Having the sequel with a boutique BD release as well is incredible.

    I really appreciate that Kino Lorber includes subtitles on their releases. Among many other things, it really elevates their releases above the likes of Warner Archive and Olive Films.
    I think "Jamaica Inn" is a wonderful movie. Laughton was a mighty talent.

    • @DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader
      @DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader  2 роки тому +1

      It’s unfortunate that so many releases lack proper subtitles.
      Jamaica Inn is very important in Hitchcock’s career and is unfairly glossed over. I’m just amazed it was restored and I don’t have to deal with the junk releases missing significant portions any longer!

    Thanks for these recommendations Crusader. I think ive exhausted my wallet already this month with the Barns and Noble sale and Amazon decided to compete directly with them also, grr!

    Awesome on scoring Captain Marvel. When I showed this blu ray to someone, they asked, "How come this Captain Marvel is a man?" 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
    For this sale, I grabbed Blackmail, New York Stories, Son of the Sheik, Nixon. I didn't realize Daredevils of the Red Circle was out of print, so I'm glad I grabbed it last summer after listening to Leonard Maltin's commentary on Capt Marvel

      As I refer to him the REAL Captain Marvel. I still hate that Marvel stole the name after DC originally stole the character. I’ve read some of the original comics which are fun but the serial is much tougher.
      That’s a good sale haul. I’m still trying to finalize my cart and fight the urge to literally grab everything on sale that I want which would be inadvisable of course.

    KL really released so many interesting releases during the last few years and became one of the most interesting boutique labels besides Criterion, Arrow, Eureka and Indicator for me. But sadly quite expensive for international customers, because they don’t ship international or let international customers participate in their sales. Also great to see you starting your recommendations with one of the two serials KL released so far! Always great to see some love and appreciation given to those kind of forgotten cinematic gems! Would love to see a whole video on recommendations regarding other Serials on BD! So far I have only bought the two KL releases and it’s a bit difficult to decide which serial release to buy next, especially because those are often only released by not very well known smaller companies. Greetings from Germany! Chris

      I definitely want to do some serial related videos. I’m currently watching the Kino disc of Daredevils and will review both it and Captain Marvel. And I’d like to do something on the video releases of Flash Gordon and Zorro’s Fighting Legion.
      VCI has gotten some universal licensed serials recently from new scans and is cranking up their game. Rumors keep floating around Flash Gordon might finally happen on BD.
      I hate that to eu so so much and everyone overseas has trouble getting ahold of releases. Hopefully other labels start acquiring a larger variety of titles.
      Kino does so much you can never keep up. I keep tweaking my cart and bemoaning all the other stuff I’m having to leave for now.

      Great to hear, that you’re planing on future Serials Reviews and already looking forward regarding your Daredevils Review! One other topic I hope somebody would cover is DVD Box Sets that are still worth collecting now, even if BD releases are already available, because of the presentation of the movie itself or the Bonus Materials. Sometimes it’s not that obvious to me. For example the Val Lewton or Thin Man DVD Box Sets. I bought all the Thin Man WAC BDs, don’t have the DVD Box Set. But I think the set has at least one feature length documentary, that isn’t available on the BDs, right? I also bought all the Val Lewton films so far on BD and would assume the still missing two films will get a BD release eventually. I had the chance to pick up the DVD set currently for only 35€ and I did so, assuming both documentaries The Man In The Shadows and Shadows in the Dark would be exclusive to this set. Now I saw that my CC BD of Cat People actually has The Man In The Shadows included in its Bonus Material Section. With a quite large collection, it can get a bit of a hassle to really keep up with what actually is available on what release and what is not. Besides Audio Commentaries feature length professional produced Documentaries are my most beloved form of Bonus Material and they tend to be often excluded if it comes to future forthcoming releases. George Feltenstein mentioned, that they often only hold the rights for those documentaries for around ten years and afterwards it’s not really commercially feasible to renew the rights regarding current home media releases and that’s why the new Thin Man BDs would not feature the former Nick and Nora Documentary…

    • @DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader
      @DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader  2 роки тому +1

      @@chultraz680 that’s a good idea: still essential DVDs. The Nick and Nora docu is basically like a Biography episode for the two stars iirc. It’s available separately but you’d think it would be on one of the BDs. The Lewton set is still important for the two films and you’re lucky to find one without disc rot.
