Iwata was one of the greatest members of the gaming industry. He was so humble yet so talented, the man was just a genius, always respectful and passionate. His work is incredibly inspirational and fuels my passion for gaming still to this day, to know that even being in a hospital bed did not stop him from working until his death. My favourite childhood games all owe Iwata for their existence and it's a true shame he is no longer with us. Iwata-San, we do understand :'( and we miss you greatly
I like Earthbound so much, I'm playing it again. I wish there could be the entire Trilogy on Switch. Or better yet, I want to see Mother 4 and 5 to be created as well.
I haven't lived as long as adults have. I have nothing but my bike and red hat, A smile, a laugh, and you in my heart; As well as my baseball bat. Thank you, Mr. Iwata. Happy birthday.
I did a tribute to Iwata playing a song from Mother 3 on the ocarina while cosplaying as Kumatora. I did redo my cosplay later using similar advice as with this scenario. I'm glad these games were released as it is my favourite game trilogy!
Juniper Travis I agree because undertale was the best game we have to thank Earthbound for it. god I love Earthbound and Mr iwata he is my hero even thou im from America he still my hero matter what
Geez louise, with both this and the Pokemon G2 video, I'm starting to think Satoru Iwata is just the master of decyphering code. I also like how in your stories the way everything is written makes him sound like a cowboy from an old western flick, that rides into town, saves the day single handedly and asks for not even a thank you, before riding into the sunset.
Satoru Iwata saved the day again. #RestInPeace You are doing a great job!! Keep up the good work! :D Maybe a story of Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros.? Sakurai also worked in HAL Laboratories I think.
I probably wouldn't known by my peers as an Earthbound obsessed weirdo (at least that's what they all say) had Iwata not helped Itoi and his team. Personally, I take pride in being the only person at my school who's even looked at the game as well as the rest of the series as some people actually enjoy me for this rare trait (Sean, Tony, if your reading this, I'm specifically talking to you), though I think I know a certain few who despise me for this just because I like Earthbound and not their favorite series so they think I'm a sin. Earthbound is a game that touched my heart with its great tweaks to the RPG formula, a story that was hilarious and a little relatable (after all, Ness and I are the same age), and just so much personality compared to other games that tend to bore me with its dialogue and it pains me to see I'm the only one at my school who's played this masterpiece. Thank you for bringing this video upon me and letting me see again how an amazing man saved what became an amazing game. Iwata, I salute you.
oh dear, 3 years later i can relate. i am probably the only one in my grade or even school who has played earthbound. i find it quite sad, but at least kids aren’t bragging about stuff in their game or doing stupid things with the game. i sound like i am old and i haven’t even reached high school.
@@ARCHIVED9610 yeah, i definitely understand. in my case, most kids at my school look down on retro games, finding the fact that i enjoy them laughable. but i guess they'll never understand what gems that they're missing out on. earthbound is one of a kind, a truly unique game - there's no other like it. i'm honestly glad that i discovered it so many years after release, along with many other games from previous generations. they really do have their own appeal, and finding out the backstories of how these masterpieces came to be is definitely fascinating.
Satoru Iwata is a god. R.I.P. Mr. Iwata. He's still in our hearts and in our Nintendo Switches making sure each Nintendo game gets a quality seal of approval.
To this day in 2017, the Mother series still stands as one unlike any ever seen. This series has one of the greatest fanbases I have ever witnessed. It's all centered around a truly magical game, with the reason people love it being very difficult to put into words. It's very relieving to know that Saturo Iwata's work has not gone to waste, and we still feel the profound effects of his genius. Rest in peace, Satoru Iwata.
Always loving them! Keep them up! Some Ideas: Shigeru Miyamoto and the Red Plumber Kirby: How Masahiro Sakurai fell in love with a placeholder character The Tofu Blocks of Hisashi Nogami (Splatoon)
Great videos you two, I love learning how these games were made and the contributions people gave. Since you've been doing videos about Saturu Iwata, you should do one about Super Smash Bros Melee, how Iwata helped debug it to make it release at launch. Its an interesting story, as Iwata put it: "That was the last time that I worked as an engineer ‘in the field’. I was right there, sitting by programmers, in the trenches, reading code together, finding the bugs, and fixing them together." Anyways can't wait to see the snes videos!
I'm happy Iwata has saved one of my favorite games of all time :) But...I sure will really miss him, sometimes I believe he is still with us...it's so hard to accept his death.
Watching this following finding out the Satoru Iwata Switch easter egg made me pretty emotional. Iwata was this guardian angel made flesh for Nintendo and the industry as a whole, and I'm glad he's honoured in this way.
thank you so much for this video. Satoru Iwata was an amazing man and an incredible help to the game industry. you've really mastered your Storybook-esque craft. And I've tried to take advice each time little by little. and I hope one day I will be able to get noticed and show my skills as a developer. Keep Being Awesome VideoGame Story Time..
is iwata like some kind of japanese game design doctor who. this is not the first time he has popped up at the 11th hour to fix everything and save a project.
Effectively, Satoru Iwata said to Itoi "You can call me Pollyanna, say I'm crazy as a loon, but I believe in second chances and that's why I believe in you." ... Now can we hear the story of how Smash Bros saved Earhbound (the second time)?
As someone who considers Earthbound to be one of his favorite video games to this day, I fully approve of this episode :P I relate a lot to Itoi. Part of why I decided I wanted to make video games was because I was to create an interactive, immersive world. Creating stories for other mediums is fun, but nothing else has worked to create exactly the sort of thing I've felt like I've wanted to make. Much like him, I originally planned to work with a friend who has the programming skills needed....but as it turned out, I don't think his skills extend into video game development, and I'm finding I do better just developing the thing myself, anyway (probably because, also much like Itoi, I'm not great at team management....or thorough planning, for that matter). I can't wait to see the episode about itoi himself. It would be nice to get more insight into the story of how he created the Mother/Earthbound series. Knowing he's not even a game developer and still was able to get the chance to create games is part of what inspired me to give game development a shot. Well, that, and when I saw how he described what he had wanted to create with Earthbound, I realized he was describing EXACTLY what I was itching to create :P
Dude don't give up. Game Dev is hard but you will not be able to walk away if its your passion. I'm finishing my first commercial game alone, working 3 days with no rest for the last year. I worked for 6 years to get the money for this process. I'm also a bipolar by the way. Just a tip. Follow people like Iwata, Team Silent, Ron Gilbert, Lorne Lanning, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Brenda Romero, John Romero, and a lot of more people that can show you the real way. There is a lot of people that teach game design but never made a game and they will make you go in circles. Just follow your passion, you have only one life to live!
How life is fair? A crazy monster like Charles manson lived until 83 and a genius , a person who was so passionate about gaming. Giving us master pieces like earthbound and pokemon die at 55.
I just found out about the secret NES Golf game on the Switch in tribute of Iwata because he saved that game. And I remembered that he had also saved Earthbound so I did a search and found this video. Thank you for this wonderful video! :)
That's great to hear! Iwata's legacy is definitely inspiring, if you haven't, I recommend reading Ask Iwata, it's an absolutely amazing book full of little stories like this.
I’ve been watching all your videos, they’re amazing! Hope you guys keep doing these, hopefully there are more videos on western developers at some point
You can do an entire series on this one man and just call it how a programming God saved video games and you wouldn't be that far from the truth either
Also mother 1 did come 2 America for the wii u virtual console as earthbound beginnings and pretty much was loved, i loved playing Earthbound. Soon mother 3 will come to the world 100% just like mother 1.
All of the sudden, Some guy rushed into the room! It was Satoru Iwata! Satoru Iwata fixed the programming errors of EarthBound! I did it and they're gone that was so easy to fix! That was quick thinking!

So many games like EarthBound fall to the wayside due to similar issues. I'm just sad more programming gods like Iwata don't fall out of the sky more often. The mere existence of EarthBound is a miracle, a 1 in a million chance. It's quite obvious why MOTHER3, EarthBound 64 was cancelled. If the team struggled to move from the Famicom to the Super Famicom, its apparent the jump to the Nintendo 64 would be larger and more difficult. If Iwata had been there every step of the way, guiding MOTHER and abondoning the projects did did work on, MOTHER may have been like Metroid or Animal Crossing. Not Nintendo's primary series but one that's alive. Then again, we can spend all day on what ifs. and If Iwata did choose to focus on MOTHER we may not have Pokemon Stadium or Smash Bros. ultimatley I think he made the right choice.
"On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer." - Satoru Iwata
We will never have anyone as wonderful as Iwata-san ever again in the history of the human race. Rest in Peace, Satoru.
Satoru Iwata truly was one of the greats of the industry
yep he was also one of the greats of game making.
He also saved Pokémon
Satoru Iwata truly was the hero of Nintendo. It may never get another man as amazing as him. As stated in Earthbound's credits, "I miss you."

Mine is mother 1
I like Earthbound so much, I'm playing it again. I wish there could be the entire Trilogy on Switch. Or better yet, I want to see Mother 4 and 5 to be created as well.
Earthbound is mine too.
im so glad i asked for it for christmas. im still considered a child, and im growing up with stuff like earthbound and i love it
Specially because EarthBound was an Inspiration to a lot of projects
Superman doesn't have anything on Iwata.
I'd like the comment but I don't want to bump it up to 65 likes.
He's legend man...
@@MookalH 🤣

There will NEVER be another Satoru Iwata.
The gaming industry and world at large are much poorer without him.
Without Iwata
Lucas and Ness would've never made it to the world and we wouldn't have this piece of hope
*EDIT* MY COMMENT GOT A HEART!!!
And without earthbound, all RPG's would have a midevil setting or be a final fantasy knockoff.
the yoyo wizard lol true
Plus we wouldn't have Undertale, which was inspired by Earthbound.
Juniper Travis I agree because undertale was the best game we have to thank Earthbound for it. god I love Earthbound and Mr iwata he is my hero even thou im from America he still my hero matter what
Without Iwata mother 4 can't be finished
R.I.P Iwata 😞😞😞 God bless him.
T_T
I am sure he is in heaven looking down on Nintendo and looking at the newest Nintendo games
Geez louise, with both this and the Pokemon G2 video, I'm starting to think Satoru Iwata is just the master of decyphering code.

You are doing a great job!! Keep up the good work! :D
Maybe a story of Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros.?
Sakurai also worked in HAL Laboratories I think.
Alberto Arras Sakurai was indeed a HAL employee. Iwata was his boss.
I can't lie this video made me cry.

Without Mister Iwata, my favorite JRPG would've never been made, let alone localized...
I love MOTHER such a powerful and beautifully crafted story, my favorite is the third installment!
Mr. Iwata was a great loss in the world of gaming. May his generosity and enthusiasm in his work always be remembered.
Iwata had such great skills, both hard and soft skill. A truly magnificent person.
Iwata was a gaming hero
Miss seeing him in the Directs..
I'm glad we got both, now we just need the third. Thank you Itoi and Iwata.
This *needs* to be spread around more. This was a wonderful video, hope to see more!
R.I.P Satoru Iwata. we all loved you, you were the best of all of us...

daaaaaaamn satoru iwata is a hero of two famous games
10:20 so how are they going to commuicate better with both of them holding the can to their ear at once again?
Iwata you are my gaming God
All of the sudden,
Some guy rushed into the room!
It was Satoru Iwata!
Satoru Iwata fixed the programming errors of EarthBound!
I did it and they're gone that was so easy to fix!
That was quick thinking!
How Satoru Iwata saved Super Smash Bros. 64 and Melee?
EarthBound probably (IMO) has the most intense backstory of any video game. God I’m happy it didn’t get cancelled. EarthBound will always be my favorite video game of all time, and Ness will always be my favorite video game character of all time.
