Hank, before you tie your weight, take the end of your line and go back through your hook eye and the line will make the hook stand up! I've used this technique at Fork around the bridge pilings.

I grew up bass fishing on the weekends watching this man in the late 80's and early 90's along with Roland Martin, Jimmy Houston, and Bill Dance. Learned so much from watching them and applied it to my own local lake as a teen. Those days with my father, enjoying watching them catch bass and then heading out on my 16 ft jon boat I bought from money I saved from being a paper boy, made for a lifetime of memories.

It would be cool if you did a spinner bait class on spinner bait size, retrieve, and depth for certain situations

Hank, I had covid and had cough and had to clear my throat like you. I rode a bicycle and in two days I my lungs were cleared. I rode my bicycle up 2 hills each day. That was what made the difference for me. Hope you can clear your lungs also Hank! God bless and excersise and take care!

Lol... 1st, this was a really good video. Love the knowledge and wisdom you share. 2nd, it is funny to me when I hear people say things about little hooks. It's a very Western thing to think but very untrue. Anglers in the U.K. use small hooks for big fish all the time. Love the videos, please keep making more. 😁👍

Glad I have been doing it right the whole time.
I use a small swivel above the whole setup to prevent twisting and I use fluorocarbon just on the setup and mono on the reel

Great video!! I can relate to what you're saying about hooks my uncle always taught me the bigger the better. What changed my mind was going fly fishing for steelhead and catching huge fish on a tiny fly hook. Then I figured if a small hook works for steelhead got to work with a bass.

Hank I agree totally with the nose hook and the short liter, I've never liked over a 12" liter on a Carolina Rig.. Tight Lines & God Bless

I always thought the purpose of the drop shot was to present the bait ABOVE bottom weeds, grass, etc. 6 inches isn't going to keep the bait above much. So maybe I don't understand it too well. Anyway, if Hank Parker says it works best like this, I

I think the weight a little closer to the hook makes it jiggle and/or move around more which imo catches their attention way more. Always heard the hook facing up made it easier to feel the bite. Very interesting... Great video!

Glad to see you Mr. Parker. Get yourself some medicinal elderberry tea and drink w honey and lemon to clear up that respiratory problem. Chicken bone broth also contains cystene, which is an expectorant. Make soup and drink elderberry tea until you're 100%.
Also, just my opinion, but "leader" is a misnomer when refering to the dropper on a dshot rig.
    Stay well.

funny, i went through the same experience with the 2 foot. I used to hook them 2 foot high thinking thats where the fish is, but i say my friend was catching more than me with a shorted leader one day, and i switched, and i definitely get more bites when closer to lead. I think you theory about lead hitting the bottom grabbing their attention is correct!

  • @victorycigarettes

I usually run a 12 - 24” leader. Gonna try 6-8”. I also agree, the crybaby hook lands fish, period.

You're the best ! Very good video. Works good for walleye too. For weights I use CHEAP removable split shots. When they snag, which doesn't happen often, they just pull off. Only takes a second or two to pinch on another one. Using and losing expensive weights that snag a lot doesn't make sense to me.

Hank i agree every fisherman has there own idea. Having said that, often Drop shot orginated as vertical fishing. Then became casting (longer leader) then target fishing( pitching to targets). Anyhow if brush up on your trigonometry, you will find the difference between say 40 foot cast and 10 foot cast can change your bait height immensely. If your drop shotting grass for example often want bait higher but long cast and you lost bait working depth. I can point you to an online calculator that factors in everything from your height to height off water to rod working angle rod lengrh yada yadda. Me i like longer casts so longer leader this puts bait 3 to 6 inches off bottom if i wanted it on bottom id texas rig a worm rather than drop shot

I know I have caught more fish using a 1/0 circle hook than any other size or type, and putting it on the end of a 18” leader, using a night crawler. I don’t leave much hanging off the hook because the fish just pull it off.
I’ve tried putting the hook up with a weight on bottom, but it doesn’t seem to work for me. The biggest fish I’ve caught have been using an 18” leader with a 1/0 circle hook at the end, and using the snell knot has helped keep me from losing as many hooks.

Get Livescope...don't need a leader..just watch your bait on the screen & stop it when it hits the fish's face... 😂 sad, but that is reality in today's bass fishing
