// What is a True Mirror? //
A true mirror is a super interesting mirror illusion. It shows its subject as it appears in real life. For example, when you put words up in its reflection, you can still read them without special backwards reading skills!! IT. IS. CRAZY.
~ It is also known as a non-reversing mirror. In case you did not know this fact before.
You can make one by connecting two glass first surface mirrors. Sounds simple, but it takes some serious skill to get that angle JUST RIGHT.
Otherwise you will see a seam in the middle.
It will not feel real.
You will not get that same, awe inspiring experience.

Everyone is so used to seeing their mirror image. You may notice this when you go to pose for a picture when someone else is holding the camera. When you review the picture, usually you are not happy with how it looks! I know I am not the only one that wants to do a re-take from the good side. (Which still turns out to be a bad side!! :P )
I’ll be honest, this is just super cool. It’s a great centerpiece for a home. You may see it in a museum. Or if you just want to use this to practice taking regular pictures… it’s all good!

The true mirror is color accurate, unlike a regular mirror, which is often subtly green-tinted due to the iron in the glass.

A selfie photo is the same view as what you get in a true mirror. You can also see yourself in true mirror form when using a webcam, but most programs flip the image because we are so used to seeing ourselves mirrored, but you can usually turn the feature off to get the true memory mirror view. If course neither can match the image quality a true mirror provides.
True that! The actual physical mirror is more about the experience and sharing it with others in an old-school way. :) No electronics required!
It's not the same, looking at a reflection in a mirror gives you depth because your real eyes process the image they recieve from the mirror! Looking at a video/picture/cam doesn't give you any depth what so ever, the image is completely flat and it's processed by a camera lens. A camera lens is just one single lens, your eyes are two lenses. A camera and an eye lens isn't the same thing either so the camera lens distorts the image. Ever noticed how big your nose looks and how narrow and long your face looks when you take a picture using the front camera? It's because of distortion! ♥️
I placed two mirror peaces like this /\ so that they were in an angle less than 90 degrees and then looked either left or right mirror I was able to see the the text on my shirt (from left to right) and was able to see my face fully. Does this mean that I saw myself how others see me? the reason I did this is because If I had them in 90 degrees and looked at the corner (aka the middle), it was harder for me to point out the details.
Yes, works great at that angle! You'll just see more distortion and a seam in the middle. It's A first surface mirror can eliminate that seam, making the illusion much more intriguing.

Exactly! When looking in a regular mirror, you're flipped.
Rylee Sherman I think DSLR cameras are more accurate than selfies and back cameras from phones
The only problem I have with the true mirror is that the closer you get to look at your face it starts getting weird. You can do it pretty easily with just putting 2 mirrors at right angle. But if you wanna look really closely at your face i think your features start warping a bit because there are 2 mirrors involved and if you're too close to one or something shit starts changing. So its hard to know how much is real and at what distance...
With the true mirror we were using we did forget to calibrate it to remove the "seam" you see in the middle. We will follow up with a new video that describes this process! Without the seam things do not get "Weird" like that. Thanks for pointing that out 🙂

Watching these for a few years but just realized the design of the mirrors that creates that third, 'real' reflection is the same as the bathroom at my granddad's... Going to have to check out if this works the same. Never connected that. I always thought it was the strangest mirror(s). If it is just the 90 degree angle, that is. I thought I remember when I originally read about these that the guy who was developing them had made his own glass for it, so I don't know if that has anything in play or not, but I have a mission today.
