Gene, I had met my husband right as you come out with this song. He would play on jukebox all the time. On our 3rd date he said please play at my funeral. I was shocked. But a little over 25 years later it was played at his funeral. Thank you for a great song ❤️

I use to sing your songs on my mail route for 26 years and later I sang your songs at Walmart for over 26 years. Debbie he sings around Englewood Florida a few time's a year and it's a hell of a show from paper Rose's to pick the wildwood flower lost two wives so I know the pain of real country music and I love it still today

Yes, he's the original! After 40 years since the song's release he is STILL singing it just as well!
To my mind NO ONE (and I mean no one) past, present or or future will be able to sing it anywhere close to being this good. This song, He "owns" it!!! I'm in my early 50s and wonder if Country Music will ever turn back to its roots; will ever turn out such giants, will ever be this good again? I've all but completely quit listening to Country radio stations because it has quit playing what I believe to be Country Music! I hope that the pendulum swings back towards it's roots soon! VERY SOON!!!!!!!
