Syd Barrett-It is Obvious

- It is obvious
may I say, oh baby, that it is found on another plane?
Yes I can creep into cupboards, sleep in the hall
your stars - my stars, a simple cock bar
only an impulse - pie in the sky
mumble listen dolly
drift over your mind - holly
creep into bed when your head's on the ground
she held the torch on the porch,
she winked an eye
Reason it is written on the brambles
stranded on the spikes - my blood red, oh listen:
remember those times I could call
through the clear day
time - be there...
braver and braver, a handkerchief waver
the louder you lips to a loud hailer
growing together, they ('re) growing each either
no wondering, stumbling, fumbling
rumbling minds shot together,
our minds shot together...
So equally over a valley, a hill
wood on quarry stood, each of us crying
a velvet curtain of gray
mark the blanket where the sparrows play
and the trees by the waving corn stranded
my legs move the last empty inches to you
the softness, the warmth from the weather in suspense
mote to a grog - the star a white chalk
minds shot together, our minds shot together...
Syd Barrett was essential to the history of music.
Is.... ❤️
@@TheClaptonisgod1 You're right. Is essential to the history of music.
🖤
I understand that many people don't understand Barrett's genius. It is simple, unpretentious and sincere. He is a rare gem.
I swear Syd was a musician wizard.
Just marvelous music.
“My legs moved the last empty inches to you”. There are so many memorable lyrics in Syd’s music, but this particular line always grabs my attention upon listening to this track.
Emphasis on the word empty ...
its a good one
yeah its a good one..love the no use lyrics too
"no good trying" lyrics too
To my mind, such as it is, Syd Barrett and Captain Beefheart are the two most important musical artists to emerge from the sixties.
I will never stop loving this album.
fucking incendiary. his songwriting has that feel of a painter making brushstrokes on a canvas. guy wuz a genius. wot more can i say?
Exactly! It paints a picture in your head.
He ended up living a very peaceful life in his Cambridge home. Syd had the last laugh.....
The Madcap Laughs
@@jm-tl6od at the man on the border
syd knew how laughed the immortal
He laughed and we’ll laughing and loving life with him forever.
Life was not that peaceful
This song sounds ego free inoccent and pure it makes me cry of happiness its more than music
Robert Defex you described it amazingly👍💔
Soooo trueeee 😩👏
He was essentially a Romantic philosopher.
It always seems like there is an inevitability of form with Syd's words; as if he didn't imagine them from scratch, but rather caught a glimpse of the pure and complete poetry in a metaphysical elsewhere and then accurately decoded it and manifested it into this reality. Like all great artists, it seems like he was merely channeling his art from the realm of Perfect Beauty; a clever, but tortured medium between Here and There.
Good analysis, really, if you were a woman saying that you'd have 100 likes or more by now,
isn't that
crazy, but
we all
get off
on a decent and thought out comment.
Exactly
@@pristineclear8604 nice one. RUDE
Beautiful understanding ✨️ ❤️❤️❤️
Nothing is for free here . Everything comes at a cost 😢
Those lyrics are pure poetry. It's intelligent, heartrending and as honest as it gets.
most underrated Syd song, utterly amazing!
I play it once every few days
Gli album solisti di Barrett sono pieni di suoni e idee e lampi di genio. Incredibile!!
man listening to this guy still gets me every time, it never gets old , a true artist with an inmense talent and sesitivity , Shine on Syd!
It is his mind flowing without barriers, speaking without filters....fantastic.
Absolute poet
WOW! Beautiful. The mind running freely.
What a great way to put it! I love this song! Is it a song? It's music...
My eternal psychedelic hero.....go inside your mind to never return........
Syd.
a good place to reside
"Remember those times when I'd call in the clear day time and you woould be there."-
Hi from Greenhall Asphalting and Marijuana cultivation Geelong Australia.
I love you Syd. I really do.
The best lyrics I have ever heard.
"the good of each other", not they're growing each other. A beautiful song from a beautiful mind. This makes me think of first love.
Right. This is my favourite line. He says "Growing to gather the good of each other". Brilliant.
Is this about a cat? 🐱 Syd's observations. Psychedelia perfection.
Lucifer sam
Oh Syd, you are the best!
It’s some of his best material this. It just plays like a loop going round and round forever.
I feel this song is a story and it gives me really ominous vibes. First time I heard this song (at age 7) I had a crazy nightmare about Syd
Brilliant!
"Remember those times I could call through the clear day a time and you'd be there?" ❤️💔
Jason Arnett I’m long gone on this dark globe pussy willow stone from heart, and my head kissed the ground...
@@Garrysullivanjones you seem to have as persistent an interest in syd as I do
Harrsh Mishra yes , it could be classed as obsessive. I’ll play 78 of his songs on a loop and we know he only recorded about 37 songs in his short career so I got a lot of double triple efforts then I’ll lay the iPod at my bed head as white noise, it’s s good sleep Syd lullaby’s on low volume.
Enjoy your cricket and scones mate
@@Garrysullivanjones only 37? ... Jesus it feels like more when you don't count them
Rumbling bumbling fumbling stumbling. Could’ve been a play by play NFL sportscaster.
The actual lyrics:
It is obvious

Yes I can creep into cupboards, sleep in the hall
Your stars, my stars, a simple cot bars
Only an impulse - pie in the sky
Mumble listen dolly

Through the clear day time
And you’d be there
Braver and braver, a handkerchief waver
The louder your lips to a loud hailer

Minds shot together, our minds shot together

A velvet curtain of gray
Mark the blanket where sparrows play
And the trees by the waving corn stranded
My legs move the last empty inches to you
The softness, the warmth from the weather in suspense
Mote to a grog - the star of white chalk
Minds shot together, our minds shot together
"your stars my stars are simple cots bars," that is what i hear anyway and it makes more sense
His final recorded and released solo song.
I can listen to this forever
Mindshot together oh mindshot together.
simply stunning! xxx
My head kissed the ground. 🤔 I was hallf the way down............
His voice cracks and trails off at times, it's heartbreaking
he was on qualudes during some of these sessions
And I really like that
well said Chris Anthony!
-This song is timeless.-
0:22 "your stars my stars are simple cot bars"
so brilliant makes a masterpiece from 2 chords
yea right !? one of those artists
Oh man, when he doubles the vocals at 1:50...so great.
Brilliant!!
A very Irregular Head...A Diamond Indeed
I love Syd RIP legend ❤
As perhaps the most famous acid drop-out in music history, we can infer that these lyrics refer to another mental plane. Take your pick: The enlightened or the unwell state of mind he reached & that retired him back to his mother’s house, at the peak of his music career.
syd was pure genius.
I've never seen a comment on UA-cam that I've agreed more with. Brilliantly articulated observation.

Syd Barrett solo sounds like a Canterbury Scene.
One fine day Syds spirit went out for an astral plane stroll and never returned. But the body he left behind was still healthy the lights were on bur nobody was home
There was someone home but he wasnt coming out to play.
i wish that I could write a song like him about my wife i could.
Pure diamond *
there's a horror story behind the lyrics: my blood red, oh listen
nothing more horrific. Good thing my blood is blue.
second to last line is "Mog to a Grog"
I always thought it was my read " oh, listen!" Maybe he meant both, either way this song is awesome
You could hear the LSD in his music

And all this time I've been making shit that doesn't liken me. I make a lot of sense. I'm not even here. I've completely lost myself.
After the Syd Barrett's departure the Pink Floyd had no more reason to exist.
The healthy Syd Barrett was very creative. He wrote more than 52 songs. Unfortunately he had already taken drugs before his time with Pink Floyd. His second solo album Barrett is better than Pink Floyd albums 2, 3 and 4. The ill Syd Barrett failed as a painter and musician. Nobody knows exactly how Syd lived from 1975 to 2006. The last documentary showed nothing new!!! How long did he battle his drug addiction??? Was he in a psychiatric hospital?? Why did he live in such isolation??? What illness did Syd have??? He painted pictures and then burned them in his garden. His sister Rosemary Breen once said: He had to learn to come to terms with his brain damage!! His neighbor said: He often heard Syd screaming at night. I think he was tormented by his demons!! A sad story. The psychiatric hospital wasn't ready at that point. He was treated with the wrong medication at the beginning. I don't know if he ever found redemption or peace for his soul. A tragedy.
This song is what happen when you give a trip to a creative mind.
your stars - my stars, ARE simple COD BARS
Cot bars
Noel Rayland yes quite right, it's COT BARS
its obbious The Au Pairs.
Haha.....your welcome!! :)
bump Syd, the best mate
The lyrics are not correct. It's "are simple cot bars."
true
Thank you
What's that second picture from? With the hallway and dogs?
Vengó de un grupo de los picantes, quién mas vino a escucharlo?
Sometimes I think Syd's later solo songs would work better as spoken poetry than actual songs.
You don't get it, and that's okay
Brambles
@@LJLewis94 what are you meaning?
@@grocerewe1935 Syd's goal was to blend the two, same as Jim Morrison (in a way)

@wotererio Thanks from me as well......
I think Syd tried to live that sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle and it nearly killed him.

Mgmt should redo this be fun
Syd should be left alone. Jesus and Mary Chain did a great Vegetable Man but MGMT are not on their level, and I'm a big MGMT fan.
Such an amazing piece of work, but such a crappy sound arrangement.. Barrett lost it by the time he wrote the music of this song.. And the sound arrangers completely fucked up the essence of the song. This song has a Major chord structure and the use of an interesting Raga. Robin Hitchcock's version is impeccably done.. and that is how the song should sound like
"Minds shot together, our minds shot together"
Yeah, you are already dead and I was born in 1991. (._.)
