I really like that this show makes sure to give the characters from both the Rebellion and the Horde enough attention. It makes everyone feel a lot more human and doesn't just paint the Horde as generic bad guys or the Rebellion as flawless heroes.
That's how the80s show was, Horde all evil and bad, Rebellion all good and nice
Sort of reminds me of AoT, now that I think about it.
In the end, the only truly evil person was the white man who uses an army/mass surveillance state of white men to strip planets of their resources and kill anyone who wants freedom and love. And he was killed by lesbian love. Man I love this show XD

Adora in this episode (Adora in general) brings me so much happiness. While she's a really interesting character and a deconstruction of the golden child trope, she is also really wholesome and funny.

I really love how this show gives so much more dimensions to characters who in any story would just be one-note and forgettable, no matter which side they're on. The line between good and evil becomes more and more blurred.

On the bright side, your character turns out to be a badass who decided to not take anyone's crap ever again.
Before this episode I really didn't think we'd have a wholesome interaction between Adora and Light Hope, but this was honestly very sweet. It did kind of get ruined by Light Hope being very intimidating at the end, but it was still sweet nonetheless.
Yes you are right, however, it is completly in character. I understand that she is focused into achieving her programed goal at any cost.
I think the sentence “Adora left us!” From Lonnie shows that not only Catra misses her, but it’s the entire team. As Kyle said, they’ve been friends ever since they can remember. Not only Catra was hurt by Adora leaving.
In any other show, Kyle would be a one-note joke for comic relief. Here, we actually care about him because they bothered to give him a little depth.

7:50 The theme is more like cycles of abuse then corruption of power. Horde Prime abused Hordak who then abused Shadow Weaver who abused Catra who now abuses everybody. Which unfortunately is true to life. People who've been abused and never shown healthy relationships have a greater chance of becoming abusers themselves.
You forgot that Hordak abused Catra there...

@@athena3268 I didn't forget, I just didn't feel like listing every single interconnected abuse case. Also Hordak was verbally abusive to Shadow Weaver more then once, like after the rebels rescued Adora from the Fright Zone. Given how Hordak practically suffocated Catra twice, it can be assumed that he may have done worse things to Shadow Weaver behind the scenes.
@@athena3268 Well, to be fair, Hordak was treating Catra so well for a long time. He defended her from Shadow Weaver on multiple occasions, showed good judgement when he allowed her and Entrapta to have the Black Garnet instead of Shadow Weaver, and even recognised Catra's usefulness enough to make her his second-in-command. The only reason Hordak later began to treat her badly was because of Catra's own failures, such as squandering the Horde's advantage while the Whispering Woods grew back and not to mention getting captured by the enemy. And just like how he replaced Shadow Weaver because of her failures in comparison to Catra's successes, he showed more favour to Entrapta because of her successes in comparison to Catra's failures. It makes perfect sense from a leader's standpoint how Hordak acted here. And despite all her failures, Hordak gave Catra the opportunity to show that she was trustworthy, but she chose to lie to him instead, thus proving that she was undeserving of his trust. She brought that on herself.
And also, Catra never really lost her fear of Hordak, it's just less intense than it used to be. Even despite Catra's flaunting in this and the first episode of Season 4, all she ultimately succeeded in doing is convincing Hordak to continue his original quest to conquer Etheria. After this episode, Catra still remains beneath Hordak and subservient to his orders, and she never lost her fear of him whenever he gets angry. Even Double Trouble fears Hordak's wrath. Make no mistake, Hordak has always been, and still is, the ultimate leader of the Horde on Etheria. Catra may be less afraid to voice her opinion in his presence, but she still retains her fear of him to an extent, calls him by his title of "Lord", obeys his orders even if she doesn't agree with them, and ultimately still seeks his approval.

I'm glad this trio got a moment in a spotlight. Seeing their struggles together humanizes them (heh, even our lizard boi Rogelio) and it just warms my heart ;-;
Lizards can't actually regrow lost limbs, despite what a certain Spider-Man villain would have you think. And while some lizards can drop tails and have them regrow, the new tail is often a bit...off. Almost never being a perfect replica of the original.
However, many species of newts on the other hand (which are often mistaken for lizards even though they're amphibians) can regrow lost limbs, tails, and even internal organs including parts of their brain.
So in conclusion: Rogelio wouldn't have been anymore safe than Kyle and Lonnie out in the spore cloud...unless his scales would offer him some protection of course.
To be more specific, lizards who have lost a tail cannot regenerate the bone from the tail(instead it grows cartilage), therefore the regenerated tail looks stumpy and can no longer move in the way it did previously having lost the bones. This plus the fact it is extremely expensive calorie-wise is why you should never pick up a lizard that can drop its tail by is tail. If it loses its tail, you could cause the lizard to starve, and lose articulation. A lot of people don’t think a lizard losing its tail is a big deal, but it’s definitely detrimental to the lizard. It’s a last resort to keep them from being eaten, and it has a cost.

I really like this episode.
It takes the characters who, in most other shows, would be nameless background soldiers on either side and delves into their characters.
But here, it gives personality. It shows that the sides of a war aren't as clear-cut as one might expect.
The horde has characters you can sympathize with. The rebellion has flawed individuals.
Adora throwing shade at LH is so fun. “Oh trust me, that one is never going to load.” Because I remember being frustrated with LH too. I was so tired of not getting answers from her that Adora’s snark was right up my alley.
I love the reveal that LH genuinely liked Mara. It’s such a sweet memory. But of course, can’t just have happy fun times in this show, gotta leave it on an ominous note.
And we finally get more time with the Horde Trio. I really like that Kyle was the one that sort of had a hero moment here, but also teamwork.
This is one of my least favorite episodes, but it still has stuff in that makes it enjoyable enough.
I love that Light Hope's story ends with her remembering the time that Mara gave her flowers. It's such a small thing compared to what Mara does in Hero but it clearly meant the world to Light Hope. She couldn't forget it even though she literally has a memory erasing system.
Just random information: She-Ra's cartoonist has confirmed that Kyle and Rogelio are actually in a serious relationship

That trio deserved more screen time in general tbh. I love the rebellion, but the horde members being multiple innocent people who were brainwashed and forced into the horde since children is more interesting to me and I would have loved to see a lot more of them.

this ep is genuinely so fun. i loved seeing the dynamics between kyle /lonnie/ rogelio, along with little bits of light hope and maras friendship
This episode feels a bit filler-ish but i would never skip it, cause the scenes when mara gives light hope flowers, and when light hope deletes that memory are SO good in my opinion. They add a lot to the show. I also love the interactions between kyle lonnie and rogelio
"but catra is hot!" oh yes, this is exactly what the creator was going for. the default way to make people love catra even when she's being terrible (it worked especially on me, love to see it

@@blahpotters7719 I think it's just special episode in which they told us the story about one character that we don't know about much before that episode. The emotional rollercoaster, huge character developement and mindblowing (and sad) ending (even if you know what happened it is still so well executed) in just one single episode. In my opinion it is the best single episode in the series and I still remember my first reaction after the credits appeared.

It was great to see Lonnie actually say outloud that they are expendable, to the horde. Kinda wish they decided to just, not go back to the frightzone, cuz that seems to be totally in line with feeling your boss doesn't care about you at all.
It ain't that simple. Leave the Horde in a destroyed tank and go were? To enemy territory? While being sought out as traitors? They've got no one to shelter them.

@@mathies3598 No she didn't. She had two people who showed her a whole new world, that the outside world is good and encouraged her to transform and then took her in.
The cycle of abuse features heavily in this show.
Light Hope at the end of this episode reminds me of the credits song for Portal 2: "Well, you have been replaced; I don't need anyone now! When I delete you, maybe I'll stop feeling so bad!"

i don’t really care for this episode much, but you do get some well needed mara and lighthope moments, adora being great, and lonnie ofc (i love her).

I forgot how funny this episode is, I usually think of the whole Kyle thing and Catra being..well...*voice cracks* ‘her best self’? I forgot about the whole Light Hope thing but that short lived dynamic has to be one of my favorites when I think about it.
montana's technique for rock paper scissors has been well documented but 1) it doesnt work on those who know the technique, 2) the odds of success are still far from perfect. it gives you better odds than 50-50, but in no way does it guarantee success
can't wait to see them react to the rest of this season and the last one, all the episodes left of the show are incredible

Yeah She Ra's Sword of Protection (in the 80s) was originally one of twin swords that held the power of Castle Greyskull on Eternia (He-Man's planet) the Sword of Protection was visually identical to the Sword of Power in every way except that Power has a red gem and Protection has a blue gem. Just as the Swords themselves are twins, so too were their wielders
.......but then because the Reboot couldn't get the rights to He-Man, this connection doesn't exist in this canon!
FYI, you're not going to fully grasp the themes until all the major questions get answered.
Light hope and her stonewalling personality seem to be pretty different, curious if light hope and the personality are truly the same AI.

Completely out of left field but I think you would like Mob Pyscho 100. (Idk if you've already seen it Kenny but I'm sure Montana hasn't lol) It would be an awesome show to react to. I was just thinking about the fact that you watch dubs and I can confidently say that MP100 has one of the best dubs I've ever heard. Crazy awesome animation, great characters and story, and some thought provoking stuff to talk about for your discussions.

P.S. : Montana's RPS strategy is a real thing. Basically, you start with paper against a man and scissor against a woman, then whether you win or lose a round, you always go in a cycle of rock, then scissor, then paper, and then back to rock, and statistically, you'll get more wins than losses over a large enough number of rounds. And yes, Montana did it wrong there, and wouldn't have lost a single time if she did it right
