Did notice the timber rub rail in the lock is down to the steel mounts so pretty useless and can cause damage. Spent 18 months in Sarnia On. Just down from Lake Huron working on the construction of the CN Rail tunnel under the St Clair River back in 94/95. Made friends with lots of the locals and in the summer time went sailing and swimming on the Lake. My apartment was right on the river bank so great views of the Lakers passing by, even witnessed the first ship after the winter freeze, tree in the mast and Capt wearing a topper. Thanks for post and jogging a few memories.
As far as I know CSL doesn't have a replacement for this ship coming so she may or may not be scrapped when her 5 year inspection comes up (not sure when that is?). If not then they'll most likely fix up the dents at that point since they're mostly cosmetic damage, no hurry. I hope she's got a few more years left personally! I'm a big fan of this design, with the sharp bow.
@@knutarneaakra6013 I also thought it didn't look very efficient. I wonder if it was just a cheaper/faster way to fix it after the collision instead of getting a proper bulbous bow.
The majority of the damage looks like it's from coming in contact with a lot of different things,, but not all of it. Some of those panels that are sucked in between the ribs is not from accidents but it's from heat over time. I used to know what it was called, but it is essentially the effect of temperature change pulling the metal in and out throughout the years! Although that ship looks like it has the thinnest metal on the the hull that I've ever seen?😢😢😢
Beat to Crap. Looks almost bad enough to not be Sea Worthy. Not sure if it's reflection on Captains or Company or Both. With things like Michipicoton (Spelling)crack, this kind of damage makes you wonder.
I don't know why they make these newer boats, without the pilot house/ bridge in the bow section??. All lakers used to have the helm in the bow,for a good reason!! Go back to building lake freighters the correct way!!
Of all of the ships I have seen traversing the Detroit river up and down bound , this Atlantic Huron is the worse condition I have ever seen. It looks like she was made of aluminum looking at her sides. No I wouldn’t want to sail on this ship.
That's Shameful!! They used to scrap boats that were in nicer condition. Those dummies have bounced that ship off of everything they come across!! I can remember when great lake ships looked nice! Now they don't even paint them. Faded, rusted, smashed up Shit! Canadnadia Steam Ship Co. Shame on you! The U.S. Coast Gaurd oughta, condem that P.O.S. and they can use it as a breakwall Shows how badly things are in this crappy economy. Image is everything, and I wouldn't do business with a company that had equipment that looked like that!
Can't please everyone. Vast majority like my style, hence 7.5k followers. Plenty of other channels that don't talk or show themselves. It would be boring if all were the same.
Your production values are top shelf, Audio under, superb video, and commentary. Many thanks.
I appreciate that comment.
Thanks

wow Atlantic Huron looks ready for the scrappers. Really beaten.
She is only 40 years old. That is late middle age for a lake freighter. She could have another 20 years left in her easy.
I thought the port side was bad until I saw the starboard side. This ship is beat to death!

This bow design aint working so good. I'am a ship designer in fluid ingenering mostly water resistance on bigger wessels. 😊

@@knutarneaakra6013why is there no bulbous bows in the Great Lakes?
That ship looks knackered ..! 😂😂😂😂
Whats going on with the Canadian shipping companies? A lot of the ships look to be in bad repair.
We have Bidenomics disaster, and the Canooks have Trudonomic catastrophe!
The almighty dollar, save lots of money by not investing in paint……
Looooove WATCHING THESE SHIPS !
Aeroplanes and ships are just so fascinating
You just haven't seen Earl Scheib work have you? Have that looking new in a day or so...
Might cost a little bit more than $299.?😂
Hard working ship. I just subscribed.
Goodness, looking at all the side plates buckling showing the ribs of the ship. Is this ship seaworthy? She looks really rough. Great video.
She needs to travel to México for some beans, tortillas, some salsa, and she'll fill out like a sexy señorita in a tight red dress! Eeeejuala!
Do they drive those things using Braille?
She needs renaming Battlescar Galactica!
What caused the damage on her starboard side?
I did read where that came from, did I not say in the video (voice over).
Struck the wall somewhere or pier. I'll have to watch my own video again
Next video she's in, I'll call her that lol

The main scuff on the side of the hull is dock rash mainly, buy the dent is visible from its Collison with the pier
When the metal between bulkheads warps it's called oil caning.
Seems like the old Lakers hold up over time better then the ship built in the 1970's
Also hi from Lockport, Ny
Why are the bows of great lakes ships so blunt?
I did read about this and forgot to mention it on this video, so when I see her again I'll discuss the bow for sure.
Increased capacity and ice ramming@@NigelHay
Did they put any fenders out when they tied up? If not I can see why it looks like a total wreck!
Never, the docks have large beams of wood
Idk... look find to me, I would use spray foam to shape the hull better but that's it
"Welcome to Port...." Port what? Couldn't understand what you said...
Port Colborne
Can’t believe how battered the hull looks!
Gees you can see the ribs! I wouldn’t be caught dead on this tub!
Makes on wonder how much more can it take.

Good one skipper
I bet the cruise ship captain was relieved to be clear of that battle-scarred old warrior!
He was probably like "wtf is this coming at us, please don't hit us"
Very FASCINATING ! THIS IS WHAT GOES ON IN OUR STATE ! OHIO !

The stern looks ok.
They've just repaired the lower hull at the bow

That ship is a disgracful hulk.
That’s an embarrassment for the steamship industry
They will run that thing till it splits open and sinks.
SHIPS LIKE THIS IS MADE TO TAKE A BIT OF A BEATING AN STILL STEAMING ALONG
Battered all over... looks awefull...
Everybody knows what they're doing?? Says somebody on the ship with all the dents in it?!😮😂😂😂😂😊
'Everyone knows what they're doing - this time!' 🤣

Business !
Welding new steel plate over it and go sailing with that old ship, spend not to much money on this floating scrapper.
Looks empty.
bumper stickers on your Porche... kinda like tattoos on a woman...
Definitely not easy on the eyes.....even the "bulbous bow" is ugly....
It's like Mad Max of the seas
That's a whole lot of boo boos!
Shit box
these boats are beat up and look dangerous.....
Advice: you would do better to get your Fn mug out of the picture for a start............... we come here to look at boats...........

She really does look like a real hard worker, but those canal locks have beaten her up pretty good
