Murray cod aren't really fecund compared to many other large-bodied fish species. They have larger eggs though, and the larvae have a yolk sac to feed on for the first few days after hatching giving them a better chance of survival than the eggs from species like yellowbelly that are 'broadcast' style spawners. This means that the number of eggs doesn't really mean a great deal, what matters is how many survive each year to be recruited into the broader population.

Paul.......Rod is doing a better job than that 'Ian' Guy ( on one of your cod fishing videos ) that you asked whats the chances of catching a Cod and the 'Ian' guy looked up at the clouds and said; " Slightly overcast, slight breeze, I'll say 90% chance".... Caught nothing... Looks like Rod makes the 'Ian' guy, a not-so-expert..
