I think it helps that I'm a bit of a loner irl anyway and the beach and jungle ambience soothes me after a long day's work. Also, the bottled messages are hilarious.

I found it funny how the endings differ from the console version. The Ending on PSP actually has background sound, meanwhile in the Wii version it just plays the title menu theme. And in the DS version you find an old pirate ship and sail home with all the other islanders (Doctor, Chef, Student) I used to be afraid of playing the Wii and DS version as a child because of how weird the graphics looked but after some years I managed to play through them both and also the PC version. Wich is basically like a reskinned Life Stories with features from the seasons expansion pack. Very fun, I recommend.

Yeah you have convinced me to look into the 'stories' series I never played any of them before I guess Its because as a kid I had saved up for so long to buy the sims 2 pc game that I never financially recovered to buy any of the expansions to go with it or any other sims pc games lol!
Tbh castaways is one of the only sims title I return to often. I enjoy the entire survive and make your own stuff aspects of the game. Like a survival game with extra steps. And the side quests are fun too!!

the PSP game having no music was a homage to the castaway movie and trust me, it did matter. when discussing the movie with my teacher (she does sound mastering as a career) she pointed to us that in the movie there was no music until the end to have us more immersed in the story and show the loneliness of the island.
I'm so excited that you covered this! I had the DS version as a kid. I really liked it but I could never figure out how to beat the game, but I was never very good at games as a kid haha. I remember spending a lot of time playing the bug game because I liked making paintings and you needed to kill the bugs to get new colors. I also really liked fishing. I think both of those things were easier on the actual DS, since it's easier to tap a bunch of things instead of clicking. Now I'm tempted to go back and try the game again and see if I can beat it!

I remember the PS2 version being really hard as a kid lol. There weren't any cutscenes like that though? And there were a whole group of people you get shipwrecked with. Unless I'm just remembering wrong lol it's been like 12 years since I played it 😂
I’m not sure if the ps2 version had a bit more to it than the psp version but you can make a whole group of sims but I only made 2 sims maybe that was my mistake, maybe it would’ve been more fun with more characters? And those cutscenes only happen when u escape the island, maybe it’s not like that in the ps2 version ? You should play it again tho, it’s a silly lil game!

Castaway Stories was the third game in a trilogy of Sims 2 spinoffs with a story campaign. Apparently they were also designed around working better on low spec laptops. It's the same theme but not the same game as the consoles Castaway, it's not as polished.
Always love these sim vids. :) As a poor console peasant I could never afford a good enough PC for the PC sims games everyone knows so these console ports were all I had. Good to see others talking aboot them. :)

I loved this game so much as a kid, played it all the time on my PS2. I still play it now and just think it's so amazing,, the PS2 sims 2 games were such gold, I'm still mad that they never introduced that clothes layering system into the mainline games
I played this as a kid and recently went OUT of my way to replace the cables for my wii and reorder this game from some random seller on eBay and I'm so so happy! It's great to see content on this ❤ However, the wii version was MUCH better. If I had played this version, I likely would not have had the same nostalgic love for it that I do now! If you ever get the chance, you should play the wii version. Easier to play than the handheld according to a lot of reviews and the graphics and game menus are much better. Overall, it seems like a more finished version of this. Loved this ❤😊

When I was a kiddo my mom rented this game for me from the video store and I remember playing it on my little tv in our camper and getting so mad!! When I figured out how to play I begged my parents to buy it for me and I got it for Christmas along with Petz Dogs 2 (another super fun game!) and Animal Crossing :) I was in first grade at the time, I’ve since developed a lifelong obsession with the Sims and I’ve probably beaten Castaway over 30 times. I used to look up cheat codes on our crappy slow internet and run back and forth between the living room with the tv and the computer room with the cheats lol! I’m 21 now, I still occasionally play my copy of this game. Thank you for the nostalgia!!
God I loved The Sims Castaway on DS as a kid!! I never got to play the PC-version as a kid, but recently I finally did and had the time of my life!! 🥰🥰
I'm kinda glad I didn't get these games as a kid, I probably would've gotten bored real quick. There's isn't a real hook to the games, outside of some funny journal entries. Maybe the Wii/PS2 versions have more meat to them. As for The Sims Castaway Stories, it's just a paired down version of the Sims 2 with a storyline, the same is true for the other Stories games.

I had the Wii and DS version of this game and I replay the Wii version once every year or two and it’s still so much fun and so nostalgic. The sims 2 and the sims 2 pets for DS and Wii were so good too 😭
I had the sims 2 castaway on the ds as a kid, i remember consistently getting really confused and so i'd just restart the game entirely every time I played to get more content out of it. I think the furthest i ever got was chopping the vines with the axe. I could never pinpoint why the game felt so eerie and isolated, but it scared me when I was small. I remember vaguely liking the minigames too. This was a great video, I'm having a blast going through all the sims videos you've uploaded, your content is so fun!

Sims castaway on the wii was a major obsession of mine as a kid! Wandering around with my chimp friends and gathering food and resources was my favorite. I remember the sim ai was kinda garbage though, I had to keep the stove walled off because the other castaways were constantly cooking food and not eating it. It was a ton of fun though!
On the PSP, to get the rest of your crewmates rescued, you have to call them all to the top of the volcano. I remember doing this as a kid, but one of my sims left before I had a chance to send out the SOS, so I was very upset I'd just abandoned them on the island.

Castaway was the first ever DS game I played and I made myself promise that Id find it one day and complete it... Took 10 years to even find it and I havent 100 precented the game yet but its still fun.

oh my god holy crap!!! i played this game on the wii when i was around 5 years old (im 16 now.. 11 whole years?!), and its such a strange but nice feeling to know this game wasn't a fever dream. a lot of the sims spinoffs feel like fever dreams due to how wacky they were lol. i played bustin out and the other sims games that weren't really recognized as a true part of the sims genre, like sim animals africa, or my sims kingdom (they were very chibi). but back on the topic of castaways, i don't remember if i got immensely far in the game or not as its a foggy memory, but i do recall the fishing, chimps, "house" building, some huge temple with black steps that i couldn't climb up, and some large green island. regardless of how difficult it was i absolutely loved this game. i really wish to pick this game up again. everyone seems to have sweet memories of it.
I played the PSP and PC versions of this to the point of "completion" (IE: Getting off the island in PSP and building a family in PC) IMO the PSP was the best, but the loading screens were awful. It remains my favorite Sims game to date.

I played the DS version as a kid. I don't think I completed it, it was to hard. But yeah I think I enjoyed it. Laughing at the naked lady in a bush. Blowing into the mic to make fire, squashing the bugs, fishing, playing music. But yeah give me classic sims any day

Omg!! I played this on the Wii and I remember this was my only exposure to the sims 2 so I came away thinking wow I really don’t like sims 2! So when sims 3 came out I was floored at the differences- Having no idea that there was a regular not stranded on an island sims 2 lol
On the DS, there's a bit of button shortcuts, it depends on which hand for the Stylus you prefer. If you're left handed, it will use the "face buttons" (A, B, X, Y, at least one of them), if you use the Stylus with the right hand, it will use the directional pad. And I'm not talking about camera adjustment. I use the right hand config, so there's the map shortcut on the directional pad's UP direction. It's ideal for the emulator, as you only need your left hand on the direction pad and the rest is handled by the mouse, including movement. Of course given you use a controller and not the keyboard. But that would also work. So it's not entirely touch screen dependable. You can still make use of that shortcut, instead of going through a lot of menus to go to the map. Also "select" for the inventory, collectibles and stuff, instead of clicking on that book in the top left corner everytime. I think the bug catching minigame is easier on a physical DS, because unlike the emulator, that uses the "precise" mouse pointer, you can actually lay down the Stylus and use your actual finger to squish more bugs at once. It's a kids game, so it shouldn't be impossible, or this hard overall. The emulator makes it far harder, because there's no way to make the pointer thicker, so instead you have to be faster.
I played a lot on ps2. Loved the game and wish that EA would remaster it. In the video is mentioned the lack of music on the islands, but truly I loved that, you are alone in an island earing in the distance the wild life. Even has a kid I found myself appreciating the enviorment around. I think that having music would ruin the whole vibe of the game

I LOVE Sims 2 Castaway. The PS2 version is my favourite and still play it now. Also I promise that bug game for the DS is sooo much easier on the console! The Castaway stories is a great game but more similar to your PC games. I much prefer the Sims Life Stories and I highly recommend you give it a play! I still remember my shock with the story lines. There is a Pets Stories too but I haven't played it yet. Your videos have been so great Ab :D x

O my god. I only just played the PC version, and had no idea the DS Version is so different. The PC Versionis amazing though, Sims 2 mechanisms (including features from pretty much all expensions: eg. Chemistry, weather, pets etc. Just the pleasure Aspiration is missing). It has cut scenes, even inuding Alien anduction. You can basically be the typical romance sim, romancing everyone on the island (Spoilers: even though you're married by the end of the story). Your video was very fun to watch
THE BEST SIMS SPIN OFF. I've been playing Sims since I was 8, I'm 26 now. And lemme tell you this game has me in such a chokehold, (pc) we still have our old computer bc the disk is stuck in it. R.i.P.

The Sims Castaway Stories is great. It has a free play mode so even if you don’t like the story mode genre you basically get a version of the sims 2 that plays smoothly even on low grade laptops.
I remember playing castaway DS and being stuck on the bug minigame not even knowing what the hell to do because I never passed it. I hated the game so much
rewatching this old video and i just gotta say... i played sims 2 castaways ds not too long ago, and tbh i kinda enjoyed it more than i thought i would? it's not... good. the minigames especially are atrocious (i abused savestates a LOT to get through that bug crushing minigame), but it does have a good rhythm to the overall gameplay that some other Sims spin-offs don't. HOWEVER, i hate that damn doctor feelgood (by the way, why did they name her that?? it sounds like something that would fit better in a porno than a Sims game). i spent at least two in-game weeks planting and harvesting and watering, yadda yadda, all the stuff to make that curry for her. and the reward for giving her that curry was the last piece of map i needed to get off the island. i was just so dumbfounded when i got the map. like... dr. feelgood... have you been basically holding us hostage on this island until you got that curry? if you had given me that last piece of map earlier, we could have left the island WEEKS AGO. you could've gotten curry on the MAINLAND. we could have sent you to the HOSPITAL and gotten you PROPER MEDICAL CARE. but NO! she wanted that damn island curry so bad that she was willing to make us all suffer until she got it. screw that character.

I remember the PS2 version being really hard as a kid lol. There weren't any cutscenes like that though? And there were a whole group of people you get shipwrecked with. Unless I'm just remembering wrong lol it's been like 12 years since I played it 😂
I’m not sure if the ps2 version had a bit more to it than the psp version but you can make a whole group of sims but I only made 2 sims maybe that was my mistake, maybe it would’ve been more fun with more characters? And those cutscenes only happen when u escape the island, maybe it’s not like that in the ps2 version ? You should play it again tho, it’s a silly lil game!

Castaway Stories was the third game in a trilogy of Sims 2 spinoffs with a story campaign. Apparently they were also designed around working better on low spec laptops. It's the same theme but not the same game as the consoles Castaway, it's not as polished.

I loved this game so much as a kid, played it all the time on my PS2. I still play it now and just think it's so amazing,, the PS2 sims 2 games were such gold, I'm still mad that they never introduced that clothes layering system into the mainline games
I played this as a kid and recently went OUT of my way to replace the cables for my wii and reorder this game from some random seller on eBay and I'm so so happy! It's great to see content on this ❤
However, the wii version was MUCH better. If I had played this version, I likely would not have had the same nostalgic love for it that I do now! If you ever get the chance, you should play the wii version. Easier to play than the handheld according to a lot of reviews and the graphics and game menus are much better. Overall, it seems like a more finished version of this.

When I was a kiddo my mom rented this game for me from the video store and I remember playing it on my little tv in our camper and getting so mad!! When I figured out how to play I begged my parents to buy it for me and I got it for Christmas along with Petz Dogs 2 (another super fun game!) and Animal Crossing :) I was in first grade at the time, I’ve since developed a lifelong obsession with the Sims and I’ve probably beaten Castaway over 30 times. I used to look up cheat codes on our crappy slow internet and run back and forth between the living room with the tv and the computer room with the cheats lol!
I’m 21 now, I still occasionally play my copy of this game. Thank you for the nostalgia!!

I'm kinda glad I didn't get these games as a kid, I probably would've gotten bored real quick. There's isn't a real hook to the games, outside of some funny journal entries. Maybe the Wii/PS2 versions have more meat to them. As for The Sims Castaway Stories, it's just a paired down version of the Sims 2 with a storyline, the same is true for the other Stories games.

I had the Wii and DS version of this game and I replay the Wii version once every year or two and it’s still so much fun and so nostalgic. The sims 2 and the sims 2 pets for DS and Wii were so good too 😭
I had the sims 2 castaway on the ds as a kid, i remember consistently getting really confused and so i'd just restart the game entirely every time I played to get more content out of it. I think the furthest i ever got was chopping the vines with the axe. I could never pinpoint why the game felt so eerie and isolated, but it scared me when I was small. I remember vaguely liking the minigames too. This was a great video, I'm having a blast going through all the sims videos you've uploaded, your content is so fun!

Sims castaway on the wii was a major obsession of mine as a kid! Wandering around with my chimp friends and gathering food and resources was my favorite. I remember the sim ai was kinda garbage though, I had to keep the stove walled off because the other castaways were constantly cooking food and not eating it. It was a ton of fun though!
On the PSP, to get the rest of your crewmates rescued, you have to call them all to the top of the volcano. I remember doing this as a kid, but one of my sims left before I had a chance to send out the SOS, so I was very upset I'd just abandoned them on the island.

Castaway was the first ever DS game I played and I made myself promise that Id find it one day and complete it... Took 10 years to even find it and I havent 100 precented the game yet but its still fun.
I love this game. I hadn’t even gotten to play it that much but still vividly remembered how unique and fun it was.
This was such a special game and people who never played it are missing out.
Bug squishing was my factory’s game as a kid 😂 I was so good at it I would squish nearly all the bugs at one and get a perfect every time. I was the bug squishing master

@@prudencesofty It gave so much more than the usual console release at the time. Usually those were story based. This one gave the feeling you'd expect a sims game to have, plus had plenty of exploration and stuff to do
oh my god holy crap!!! i played this game on the wii when i was around 5 years old (im 16 now.. 11 whole years?!), and its such a strange but nice feeling to know this game wasn't a fever dream. a lot of the sims spinoffs feel like fever dreams due to how wacky they were lol. i played bustin out and the other sims games that weren't really recognized as a true part of the sims genre, like sim animals africa, or my sims kingdom (they were very chibi). but back on the topic of castaways, i don't remember if i got immensely far in the game or not as its a foggy memory, but i do recall the fishing, chimps, "house" building, some huge temple with black steps that i couldn't climb up, and some large green island. regardless of how difficult it was i absolutely loved this game. i really wish to pick this game up again. everyone seems to have sweet memories of it.

I played the PSP and PC versions of this to the point of "completion" (IE: Getting off the island in PSP and building a family in PC)
IMO the PSP was the best, but the loading screens were awful.
It remains my favorite Sims game to date.

On the console versions, you if you send a S.O.S on crystal island you get abducted by aliens and receive alien food in your inventory.

Omg!! I played this on the Wii and I remember this was my only exposure to the sims 2 so I came away thinking wow I really don’t like sims 2! So when sims 3 came out I was floored at the differences- Having no idea that there was a regular not stranded on an island sims 2 lol

On the DS, there's a bit of button shortcuts, it depends on which hand for the Stylus you prefer. If you're left handed, it will use the "face buttons" (A, B, X, Y, at least one of them), if you use the Stylus with the right hand, it will use the directional pad. And I'm not talking about camera adjustment. I use the right hand config, so there's the map shortcut on the directional pad's UP direction. It's ideal for the emulator, as you only need your left hand on the direction pad and the rest is handled by the mouse, including movement. Of course given you use a controller and not the keyboard. But that would also work. So it's not entirely touch screen dependable. You can still make use of that shortcut, instead of going through a lot of menus to go to the map. Also "select" for the inventory, collectibles and stuff, instead of clicking on that book in the top left corner everytime.
I think the bug catching minigame is easier on a physical DS, because unlike the emulator, that uses the "precise" mouse pointer, you can actually lay down the Stylus and use your actual finger to squish more bugs at once. It's a kids game, so it shouldn't be impossible, or this hard overall. The emulator makes it far harder, because there's no way to make the pointer thicker, so instead you have to be faster.

I played a lot on ps2. Loved the game and wish that EA would remaster it. In the video is mentioned the lack of music on the islands, but truly I loved that, you are alone in an island earing in the distance the wild life. Even has a kid I found myself appreciating the enviorment around. I think that having music would ruin the whole vibe of the game
I played the fuck out of the game on DS as a kid. I still pick it up today to try and 100% that catalogue. But oh BOY. It sure is a grind.

I remember playing the DS version as a child, but not understanding much, as it wasn’t in my language. Still had so much fun though, might try it again now that I understand English. I also played the sims 2 on ds (really weird game tbh) and some type of sims pet game in which you’re a vet.

I LOVE Sims 2 Castaway. The PS2 version is my favourite and still play it now. Also I promise that bug game for the DS is sooo much easier on the console! The Castaway stories is a great game but more similar to your PC games. I much prefer the Sims Life Stories and I highly recommend you give it a play! I still remember my shock with the story lines. There is a Pets Stories too but I haven't played it yet. Your videos have been so great Ab :D x

O my god. I only just played the PC version, and had no idea the DS Version is so different. The PC Versionis amazing though, Sims 2 mechanisms (including features from pretty much all expensions: eg. Chemistry, weather, pets etc.
Just the pleasure Aspiration is missing). It has cut scenes, even inuding Alien anduction. You can basically be the typical romance sim, romancing everyone on the island (Spoilers: even though you're married by the end of the story).

The Sims Castaway Stories is great. It has a free play mode so even if you don’t like the story mode genre you basically get a version of the sims 2 that plays smoothly even on low grade laptops.

rewatching this old video and i just gotta say... i played sims 2 castaways ds not too long ago, and tbh i kinda enjoyed it more than i thought i would? it's not... good. the minigames especially are atrocious (i abused savestates a LOT to get through that bug crushing minigame), but it does have a good rhythm to the overall gameplay that some other Sims spin-offs don't. HOWEVER, i hate that damn doctor feelgood (by the way, why did they name her that?? it sounds like something that would fit better in a porno than a Sims game). i spent at least two in-game weeks planting and harvesting and watering, yadda yadda, all the stuff to make that curry for her. and the reward for giving her that curry was the last piece of map i needed to get off the island. i was just so dumbfounded when i got the map. like... dr. feelgood... have you been basically holding us hostage on this island until you got that curry? if you had given me that last piece of map earlier, we could have left the island WEEKS AGO. you could've gotten curry on the MAINLAND. we could have sent you to the HOSPITAL and gotten you PROPER MEDICAL CARE. but NO! she wanted that damn island curry so bad that she was willing to make us all suffer until she got it. screw that character.
