Parrots are very shy and hard to photograph or capture on film.
Our Facility Manager, Marcel, did manage to film a Lory (Lorikeet) and an Eclectus Parrot in the jungle of Pulau Pef.
Lorikeet, (subfamily Loriinae), are any of 53 species of medium-sized vocal and exceptionally colourful parrots of Australia and New Guinea that feed on pollen and nectar. They have brush-tipped tongues that help sweep food into the mouth. They also eat small insects and are important pollinators of many trees, including coconut palms.
The Eclectus Parrot is unusual in the parrot family for its extreme sexual dimorphism of the colours of the plumage; the male having a mostly bright emerald green plumage and the female a mostly bright red and purple/blue one.
