- She did me dirty! I've never had this happen to me nor did this to anyone. Cary @americanarbitragecards & Dawn walked away moments before Karen stepped in with her two scents. I'm confident the two ladies didn't know each other cause the owner said she convinced her to sale her a signed book she wrote for a $1.
I brought it up to Cary and Dawn and they told me about the situation they ran into someone doing something similar at a yard sale where you can see at the link below.

What caught me was when you first asked the seller about them, first thing she said was they were her moms, and she really didn't want to sell them. Aside from that random woman sabotaging your buy, and how rude that was, the sellers face lit up when she was told it looked great on her. She was given a reason to hold onto a piece of her mom, and to me, that outweighed how it happened. Still sucked, I know, but I'm glad you saw the value it had to the seller.
I agree, but I felt and seen that with the first items I showed her. I edited out when the owner said that same lady convinced her to buy a book she wrote and signed and gave it to her for a dollar. I would of preferred it been been solely her decision.
@SonnyLasVegas I agree. We didn't see she had done other stuff. What she did to your sale was bad enough. With editing, we never see every part of a situation. We don't see the full picture. Obviously, videos need to be edited. That's unavoidable. I didn't know she had been an issue the entire shop pretty much.
Hope that never happens again..but two things I observe you talk up your items as you ask how much..(your shopping friends I notice just ask and stay quite on there items ..even if they are excited about it)
Also just like at a thrift store just put in a pile to the side and let them know you are still shopping even if you are just thinking about it and wait till the seller is ready to come look at your pile off to the side.
I have had a neighbor friend do that to me at my own garage sale and say the item is not worth that and talk the buyer out of the purchase ..so I can relate..😊 you have such a good heart and it will come back 10 fold for it 🙏😊
There may have been $ in that hat but the memories that woman had of her Mom wearing that hat…..Priceless.❤❤❤ That’s a win for you!

I don't think that lady realized what she was doing by sabotaging your sale but I would have been irritated too. You handled it well and the lady gets to keep her hat until her attachment to it wears off. It was probably meant to be. You still snagged some great items and learned a lesson that you shared with your viewers to learn from as well so it's still a win even though it may not seem like it.
That was my main point of the moment to share how it was handled and get peoples option. Interesting what comments are coming in.
I think that lady was definitely attached to that hat . It evoked a strong emotion of yesteryear for her. Don’t give MS Busy Body any thought . There will be more hats . You come across some really nice stuff quite a bit .

That lady was someone to be called out. I felt it was rude of her to butt in on your deal and your time with the seller!! Oh well...what is done is done but you will benefit in the future for not making a big scene over it. Thanks for sharing!!

Sonny, you were so nice to compliment the lady on how that hat ready looked on her. I could see too that she had an emotional attachment to them. So thanks for being the bigger soul & convincing her to keep it. Karma is definitely headed your way.
As far as the other lady, I understand she wanted to compliment the lady too. However, she should not voice her opinion on what the lady should sell. Especially since you approach the lady with both in your hand & clearly was interested in purchasing them.

I am happy that the hat stayed where it is meant to be AND I hear you--I would have been quivering in my shoes with dread when the lady started that conversation with the seller about her keeping the hat. Think of yourself as a hero-your actions of telling her that yes, she should keep it made her so happy. You are the coolest!

The hat belonged to the seller and the other lady recognized her attachment to it. The couple dollars you missed will not be missed. The joy she held onto may last a lifetime. You have no reason to feel cheated. In time, you will realize that. I’ve brought 14k items to the attention of sellers who didn’t know when resellers were trying to buy for $.50. I will never regret the fact that they were disappointed.
He was only trying to purchase and he did nothing wrong. She had it out for sale. Doesn’t matter who was going to buy it she had it out for sale. The other lady should’ve minded her own business. That’s how I feel about it.

@@SonnyLasVegas - as in 14k gold…it’s been a couple of years since I hit a yard sale. My folks and I used to love doing it but they just got a bit too old.
I’m almost positive she was completely unaware of what she was doing. Most customers to yard sales are not resellers so I actually think she was trying to be nice to the lady. But yeah--she cost you a sale.
I learned at a young age going to garage sales with my
great-uncle in the 70’s…pick it up if you want it, otherwise it’s going to be gone. 🙂

That lady was definitely rude to interrupt. Who does that? 😖 Never assume no one else in interested. Ive been reselling 23 years and you just never know who will take it from under you. I also ask prices as I go along then sellers will often throw something in for free or cheaper when they realize you have asked them for prices several times. I wish you happy reselling. It’s such a fun excuse to keep shopping and treasure seeking.

That lady was dead wrong! Maybe she was going to talk the lady into selling it to her when you left the sale. Yeah, sometimes you have to keep you enthusiasm for an item on the low low.

You handle the hat sell, or lack of sale very well. The lady who interfered was likely not as conscious of you buying both hats. In her defense, perhaps, the seller's hesitant- sensitive attachment to the hat stood out;, and even you, myself, possibly other viewers, along with the lady could sense it. Bottom line, I believe the seller really was not ready to detach from that hat....for whatever reason.

When the deal was done you should have told the rude lady to mind her business , that she broke your deal. I would have dropped the F word on her. She probably didn’t even know she broke your deal and still doesn’t because you were nice about it. Good luck!

I had the other day thrifting not one, not two, but THREE PEOPLE (twice being the same person!) cut right in front of me browsing the racks where I had to stop and wait all three times to keep looking. Just ended up going to other sections after getting frustrated but give people some space especially if they’re going through a size section.
I lost count how many times this has also happened to me and also seen happen to others.
Happens to me all the time. It’s my number one pet peeve when I’m out thrifting. I’ve had words with some of them 😂
You have every right to be upset, I hate when people try to take things away from me at estate sales or stores, and some people will use horrible tactics to do so. You did the right thing, and were polite and let it go without being rude to the interloper, so kudos Sonny. ❤😊

Sonny , I think with that lady that interfered in your purchase of the hats. It looks like the seller thought you and that lady buyer were a couple. I would have from the point that the seller said she talked the lady buyer into a book. I would mention she's not with you. Anyway, I don't know if that would matter. But like you always say, there are other deals to be had. I personally if I want something I attain from the start because you never know if someone else will beat you to it. I can’t believe how she thought it was okay to butt in. I’m not sure what I would have done but it felt like she was getting a cut for not letting the lady sell them. Weird.
That was my initial impression. I’ve worked with a few people similar to her who don’t read social cues. This one taught me a few things to handle better next time.
I was angry for you. That's just nor right! Onto something else: Beside the Wedgewood pieces I saw a black glass candle holder which I think was a good piece. The vase you picked up was flashed glass all the colors will come off. But whoever buys the vase will like it and won't matter if it's flashed. I don't want to come across rude. 😊

Calling someone a Karen isn't good. I know a lot of beautiful women who have that wonderful name and I'm hopeful you can change the title, because that's been very hurtful that their name is being used in a derogatory way.

You just got a sour cherry with the other woman inserting herself into a conversation between two people and manipulating the outcome. Follow your own rules of holding onto items instead of going back. You actually burned yourself twice that day by not doing so.
I don’t think you needed to mansplain what a Karen is to @MariaG-zu3ic above. I think she’s trying to tell you that the other customer wasn’t a Karen. Was she nosy? Yes. Was she chatty? Yes. Was she a Karen? I really don’t think so. Things just didn’t go your way on that one.
