      Aslam u alaikum
"man was created free and mandated"
I will share with you my life and how Islam and homosexuality impacted my life
I was born in Muslim family that was not practicing.
I used to do lot of wrong stuff as a child but I would regret it afterwards I felt regret for my bad actions.
I hated this feeling of regret that came over after I did something wrong
I wished I could reverse time that way I would know what I'm about to do is wrong and I would not do it.
I wished there was some guidance available that told me what is right and wrong.
every time my parents reprimanded me for my wrongdoings they would always say this one sentence "son what you have done is a sin in islam."
to them this may have been a casual sentence but this sentence caused me to ponder to think what is a sin in Islam
as I studied Islam I found out all the wrong things I did were sins in Islam and Islam forbade us from doing those things and that for me was shocking.
I wished I'd learn about Islam before I commited all the sins then I would have less regrets in my life.
I slowly started to practice Islam praying 5 times a day, fasting, giving charity, etc.
moving on when I was around 10 or 11 years of age I realised I am attracted to boys but homosexuality is a sin in Islam.
I had an honest inner dialogue with myself about my feelings.
remember I have understood this fact that if I do something which Allah has prohibited I'm going to regret it.
trust me that feeling of regret I hated it to my very core.
Allah gave humans natural sexual desire for opposite sex and we can only fulfil that desire with our spouse after marriage in Islam.
Allah will not give me homosexual feelings and then punish me for acting upon them.
at that young age I realised these feelings are not from Allah as Allah is just.
inner dialogue: this is my conviction this is my belief that nobody is born gay. I have submitted my will to the will of my creator and homosexuality is a sin in my religion. I will not be a homosexual I am a Muslim. I will not follow desires but I will obey Allah and his messanger Muhammad pbuh. I have chosen my path and my path is Islam.
after this inner dialogue with myself I asked Allah sincerely about my situation and asked Allah to help me resolve these feelings.
I prayed tahajjud asked Allah sincerely that Allah Is ar rahman ar raheem I don't know what went wrong how did I get these feelings ya Allah remove these homosexual feelings from me. ameen
I prayed 5 times a day held tightly onto Qur'an.
I did few things subconsciously Subhan allah when I look back I realise they were very beneficial
Allah would not give me homsexual feelings and then punish me for acting on them.
I innately knew nobody is born gay I knew Allah is just and Allah created me to worship him alone.
I put my Complete trust and tawakul in Allah.
100% of my being believed that I was not born gay and these feelings are not natural.
I stayed away from all homosexual content on news social media cartoons anywhere I saw it I actively blocked it.
I held tightly onto Qur'an and sunnah and slowly these homsexual feelings disappeared alhamdulilah.
nobody is born gay this is one of biggest lies of this era.
and your Lord treats no one with injustice al-Kahf 18:49
Nay, Allaah never commands Fahshaa (evil deeds, unlawful sexual intercourse). Do you say of Allaah what you know not? al-Araaf 7:28
Have you seen he who has taken as his god his [own] desire, and Allah has sent him astray due to knowledge and has set a seal upon his hearing and his heart and put over his vision a veil? So who will guide him after Allah ? Then will you not be reminded
      Qur'an 45:23

The so called "academic" seems to be trying to push for young people to create some sort of "revolution" I can see through his BS and I am a simple lay muslim who is a beginner student of knowledge. Allah’s deen CAN and WILL withstand ANY attack. The issue is from my little knowledge is that the vast majority of the Muslim population aren’t equipped to be answering the questions of anyone enquiring into the perspectives and requirements of Muslims, because unfortunately the general Muslim population aren’t as practicing and knowledgeable as the public portrays.

Maybe you are correct, majority of Muslims know that homosexuality is haram so you have muslims that don't even think about it any other way, homosexuality is not spoken about in muslims households and again is not a topic that you would talk about. So when a person asks about it most muslims try and change the subject or say its haraam n move on from it without hurting someone's feelings cz of course ppl have homosexuality tendencies and relationships.

Declan's a liberal Catholic academic who, quoting from his website, "is the bronze winner of the 2017 Independent Publisher Book Award in the LGBT non-fiction list for his book Trans Voices - Becoming Who You Are."...
However, I believe in the capacity for people to change; Declan shows some level of open-mindedness in being able to sit down and have this discussion. One hopes what the Shaykh said resonates with him and he explores and embraces the Din.

I think its very simple. And the Sheikh said it towards the end, there is no compulsion in the deen. We have the choice to be Muslim, and if we choose to follow Islam so we should adhere to its rulings, teachings and customs. Islam is clear cut on issues such as drugs/substance/alcohol abuse, Homosexuality etc etc.. We have the choice to not be Muslim and do as we so wish. One cannot be a practising Homosexual and be Muslim. It is that simple. If one does not like this, then tough luck. And in the end, Allah swt knows best.

I enjoyed this interview. however, I must say, I believe the interviewer kept interrupting the sheikh when he tried to bring up relevant analogies and express his views to help viewers understand Islam's approach (on the subject). I believe this is also due to the interviewer's lack of understanding and his inability to draw the similarities, irrespective of how many Muslims he has spoken to across the country. The sheikh tried to tackle people's stigma that Islam only has a harsh approach to LGBT. Islam has a harsh approach to many of the corrupt sins that break a society etc.

I find I am quite a negative and skeptical person, so like you would probably intimate such thoughts. But, I think it is also possible for people to change, and to allow for that we must on our part believe they can change. When arguing with people it is tempting to debate them into a corner. But like fighting an army and doing the same, this may only make them more beligerent in staying their current position and 'fighting to the last man'. Like the Chinese tactician, Sun Tzu, suggests, one must leave an opening.
In reality, I am sure we both agree that we would not want the interviewer to be doing such a thing, and we wish for him to be honest and also to accept Islam. I hope that the Shaykh's words urge change in his heart.

Islam is clear like crystal when it comes to homosexuality which is; forbidden, one of the greatest sins, and should not be done in public in order to avoid the sentence - capital punishment - demonstrated by the companions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Lut mAbpwh, a prophet's nation was sentenced - burning stones' rain - harshly for committing the sin of homosexuality in discreet and overtly; having said that Islam also proselytises not to interfere with the personal matter of others, especially bedroom's issues, strictly asking others not to make internal affairs known to people as the sentence of this act is also severe.
Every sin is forgivable save SHIRK, so thinking that you are doing a favour to Islam or society by disclosing the secret sexuality of others is an enormous sin in the eyes of GOD unless they are not doing it in public in an Islamic State. No one has any right to punish someone as this is the act of Government in an Islamic country if someone is proven guilty.
In many instances, personal scores are set in such matters; Islam is very rigid in approving the sentence as four witnesses - who have never lied - are required who see the act (penetration) happen in front of them.
    Thank you for reading.
I am not an expert on that topic; however, I self-studied extensively on such issues for a decade.

A number of Islamic cultures have found ways to get around the prohibition on homosexual relations, however, such as Afghanistan’s bacha bazi, dancing boys. It is forbidden for women to dance, so men get prepubescent or adolescent boys to dress in women’s clothes and dance for them. Although this practice is officially forbidden by law, many look the other way. Having dancing boy(s) is a measure of wealth and status. Men will gather to watch the boys dance, and then the boys will go home with their “benefactor” aka owner. No one questions what is done behind closed doors.
Officially, homosexuality is forbidden and often punishable by death. But unofficially, men have found ways to have homosexual sex.
homosexuality, first appeared at the time of the Abbasid dynasty, when Muhammad Al-Amin Abbasi, came to power. He was the son of Haroon Al-Rashid, the 5th Abbasid Caliph, and the powerful Abbasid Caliph.
When Al-Amin came to power, the slaves and servants (who were male) were in their highest positions of mercy and kindness. When his mother (Zobayd’a) heard that, she chose the most beautiful servants (females) and she made up them to be like male servants, and sent them for Al-Amin. Because he loved his servants to be the beautiful male.
    Muruj Al-Zahab, V 4, P 226
Also Sa’alebi, a great Sunni scholar, has a book about the famous titles. He introduces Yahya bin Aksam (he was the great judge at the time of Al Ma’amon Abbasi), as the most famous man in sodomy, at his time.

I am not sure what your point is here?
Yes people will continue to perform evil. These aren't loopholes in Sharia, the practice of Bacha Bazi is absolutely forbidden, in fact the Prophet Alayhis Salam explicitly spoke on that very subject (young boys). It is, I think, a bizarre cultural loophole, similar to the Pakistani practice of Hijra transgenders etc. Again, Sharia has clear views on these. That people continue to practice them is another matter.
As for historical evil, sure this always existed, especially in private, and as you imply in the upper echelons. Of course with reports of rulers/politicians being involved in such, one has to bear in mind polemical sources and that many of these come from political opposition or people who hated these rulers for other things they did. But were some of them commiting such evil? It is not difficult to imagine they were. The rulers had to many times be corrected by the pious, and we have the likes of Yazid in history after all.
Finally, regarding your last comment regarding Imam Yahya bin Athkham, this is slander, there is no actual evidence he commited such things, and the claim is routed in the political-theological happenings of the time such as the state Mu'tazilism under the corrupt Abbasid Caliph at the time, amongst other groups.
We look to the Prophet Alayhis Salam and Prophets Alayhim Salam and then the Sahabah Radiyallahu Anhu. We cannot however rely on history thereafter, history is not perfect as Muslims are not perfect. But for all the evils of history there are good examples as well.
For every Yazid, there is an Umar bin Abdul Aziz too.

There have been MANY slave revolts in the history of the Islamic world…surely they did not revolt because they were treated so humanely?
Regardless of this FACT, slavery is MORALY wrong and unjustified no matter what age it occurred, which is why the prophet (SWS) preached to be good to slaves and women…because he was from a society that virtually enslaved them both. You’ve gone awry after making some sense, but there is a great deal of nonsense in what you wrote too a lot of it not worth addressing, but I’ll say this: morality does not evolve in the final revelatory dispensation, therefore homosexual acts are immoral and prohibited and will remain so until the end of time. The abuse of an institution and tyrannising the weak do not necessarily mean the institution itself is immoral per se. In the case of slavery there were prescriptions for how a slave was to be treated, these were obligations as the shaykh mentioned and the slave could seek legal redress against his master where his rights we trammelled, this last is something that did not pertain in western slavery.
Your visceral loathing of slavery is purely down to your being born in the present age and after the abomination of the Atlantic slave trade, you’re then transposing that on to all historical instances of slavery.

We hold no antithetical theological position on "gay bornedness". All things are by decree. There is no natural causation.
If Allah decreed someone to feel these feelings, then they are still responsible for not sinning. Being "born with a desire", whatever that means, is not a get-out-of-jail free card for sinning, I was "born with a desire" for women and yet you don't see me sleeping around, though I certainly have such a desire to do so.
      May Allah preserve you.
