Watched the entire renovation vid. Top work !! Also have started the 'land loopholes' vid ..... How on earth does UK Govt get away with making it SOOOoo difficult (and expensive) to build on OWN LAND !!! Completely unacceptable. Thanks for all the info. Please say whereabouts in UK you are located ..... ie which county. Appreciate. 🎉
I was going to use that tactic under my sink to hide the sink/washer/stove in my furniture house out of a burlap sack material..p.s^your house is a dream^
I’m still astounded how you did this with no previous experience. It looks like such a great space to be in. My wife and I have watched your full build video about 3 times already haha. Great job man 👏
Ahh that's really nice of you to say! and very glad you're enjoying it! I'm sure if you looked closely you could see lots of faults! Ultimately the whole thing works which is great! But I think the real skill is in finishing and getting that super clean finish - that's something I'm definitely not good at! Thanks again!
I have a 19 by 8 shepard hut, at moment lining out with insulation, and tounge and Grove panels, the ceiling is done with the curve roof and clear varnished as will be the finish on the walls, I have a wood burner ready but not done the cut through wall. Like your self it's learning curve every thing with the jobs and when you watch good videos gives inspiration to forget the huge prices it cost in building since the covid, for you do you think it be a heat in summer months in your build as to any problems. Itesten temperatures regular last summer one reaching 89f with windows open, curved metal roof dispite insulation is my factor, solar fans helps a little, be interested your views with your selves.
That sounds great and a lovely project! With regards to temperatures I've never had an issue with the cabin/caravan. The summer does get hot in there but I just have the windows open for airflow. Similarly in the depths of winter, when the wood stove is on I have to have the windows open otherwise it gets too hot. That is more down to the fact that the burner is really big for the space it is heating and not so much down to the insulation. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment
Thanks so much! 😊 We were really happy with how it turned out on the work top. I like the fact you can do a heavy burn and worst case scenario you can just sand it back to normal again. Thanks for watching!
Love everything about this. It's like a modern home that has everything you need, a cabin and a tree house all in one. I like how the huge kitchen table serves multiple purposes too. Food prep, work area and hangout.
That's a lovely comment, thanks a lot! Really glad you enjoyed it. We were really happy with it and it turned out how we wanted it to. That's not to say we didn't make a lot of mistakes a long the way but we won't do that again when we take on another project. Thanks for watching and thanks for your support!
I’ve been interested in off-grid, or a far less damaging way to live. This has been really inspiring to watch. And not knowing what you were doing gives me hope!
ZERO experience and that's no exaggeration. It was part of the reason for starting a youtube channel because I learned everything I need on here, there's an abundance of information out there. Thanks for the lovely comment and thanks for watching!
You can put up a movie screen like you'd hang a roller shade for your window. pull it down when watching a movie and roll it up when you're finished. it's a window covering and a movie screen. hang the projector on one of your exposed raters. Nov you have movie night!
Love that! I didn't think about it actually doubling up as a window blind as well! I'm going to look into this. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
Ahh thanks a lot! I definitely wasn't handy before the build but really feel better about my skills and what i've learned - still lots to learn and really enjoying it. Thanks for the lovely comment and glad you enjoyed it
The small area that is for the clothes horse that you don't use would be a great place for a spice rack/pantry space. A front that looks like a cabinet door that actually pulls out with several small shelves that hold spices and a couple of bigger shelves for other ingredients. You just need some heavy duty drawer slides and some more math!
Love that idea! I guess it'll be about finding the right slides like you said. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment - that's greatly appreciated!
Wow , this is just beautiful !!! Pure wood everywhere and I love your plan on the notebook paper , no CAD system drawings , fun ..I would love to see it after you get moved in again , the axe and tool wall is wonderful , wood and steel is a beautiful asthetically pleasing look . You've inspired me , thanks ❤
Hahah! yeah the drawings weren't exactly planning worthy but do the job! Thanks so much for the lovely comment and thanks for watching! Really glad you enjoyed it
Very cosy, lots of light. Maybe having thermal Roman blinds would help retain heat, it’s one drawback to having natural light. It feels like a cabin inside, great job 🖖
Thanks for that! I've actually done a video on the finished cabin so you can see the whole thing. I'll add a link here: ua-cam.com/video/rpJab2cRGyA/v-deo.htmlsi=ZsLEqEK-g9fKJzu8
Have you looked into a heat pump with solar. This could heat the home and all the hot water. I recycled a high voltage battery out of a Renault Kangoo van which is 36kWh. This runs my home no problem!
I haven't thought of that at all. It sounds very interesting and really like the idea of it. I love that you recycled and old car battery - that sounds awesome and great ingenuity! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
Nice result! I have been watching lots of cabin builds and cabin restorations in order to get ideas, inspiration, and ongoing motivation to push on with the restoration of a 70-year-old cabin I am working on here in Japan. I love how you used the space for the kitchen, especially those under-counter baskets, and will probably do something similar in my cabin.
Thanks so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it and your cabin sounds incredible in japan!! I hope the restoration goes well and i'm sure it will be amazing when it's done. Thanks so much for your comment and support
Here in Sweden, in summer houses they often set a curtain instead of wooden doors to hide washing machine or shelves in the kitchen… if that might be an good idea for you I don’t know 🤷♂️👍☺️
I've seen pictures of that and I really like the idea of it. You definitely don't need more than a curtain that's for sure so it might be something I end up doing. A lot easier and cheaper too!
HI, you can build a static 22 feet wide by 65 feet long, this is the outside measurements, internal ceiling height is 10ft 3inches, outside roof height the Goverment forgot to put in a restriction. Biggest problem is getting lawful use/ council tax . I did this a few years ago in Sussex totally off grid now. good luck for the future

That's a good question. The cabin in the woods is a friends woodland so it's a different cabin - I wish I had a cabin in the woods! But equally very happy with my cabin! 😀
Very VERY good idea! I did think of something similar not long ago as the council cant really do much about a static caravan as its not a permanent structure.
Good job. I hope that you sealed it really well behind the shower tile because that’s where things can fail by getting wet. Otherwise, I love the whole house.
We absolutely didn't - it's a huge mistake. It's ok for now but we know that we're going to have to completely re-do the shower at some point. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
Love this, well done. Having curtains would help to retain the heat a bit more and you could have a white blind over the lounge video to use for the projector.
Yes someone just said use a curtain to cover up some of your areas like you see in French kitchen or there cottages with nice gingham or check type and it looks really nice rather than doors and it’s easy to do plus you can always change with another material to give it another look but I really like the way you have changed it big thumbs up so stay safe and peace and love from us up here in Scotland 👍🥃❤️
I’m really starting to come round to the curtain idea. Like you said it’s easy to do and easy to change. Plus it looks good! Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the comment 🙌✊👌
1:58 this is really well done, I suspect the thing most people would struggle with is the bed against the wall. Had the corridor wall been half the length the bed could have gone on the top wall in the middle and the storage gone in line with the corridor wall where the bed is now? Apart from that looks very cosy 😊
Have you thought about in the kitchen, adding glides and making a slide out area so it will be easier to get to this things in the back instead of having mostly wasted space. I do know you can purchase storage racks with there on glides that go in your cabinets. I have them in my kitchen and I really love them. We added them when we had to replace our kitchen cabinets on a very tight budget and I really hated the cabinets before hand because any big pots or anything in the very back you pull out couple times a year and clean them up cause they’re just too deep to reach it But adding the pull out drawers made a big difference. Just a thought!
Loving the recommendation! That's a really good idea and i haven't thought of that before. I'll have a look into those rails and even if it's a case of making my own drawers for it because i think i'd be really like if i found a pre made one that fit. Really appreciate the comment, thanks for your support!
Those fans have a Peltier module that creates thermo electric to power the motor to turn the fan. Only the direct transfere of heat from touching the stove powers it. Phew, in short the fan would not work
Thanks for the initial comment but @superfandangoo is right - it works through heat transfer to start the motor. But having a normal fan up high to disperse the heat is a great idea - i like your thinking!
Wow, fantastic first project, done this one with no previous experience. So just imagine what your next project could be like, as you say, there are things you would change or do different. I would love to see you do another, obviously once you've got this completely finished. What do you think, are you up for a new project or have you retired already 🤣. You've created a beautiful home, well done 👍...🥰🇬🇧🐾🐾🎃🎃🎃🏡💕 .
You do know you can put a white pull down blind in the window and a projector on a small table in front of the couch and you would have a great setup with very little space used
THat's a great shout - i'll look into that when i've got some spare cash. It would be great because i love movies and currently just watching on the laptop. Would be lovely for the winter with the wood stove on. Thanks for the comment and suggestion!
With all those rafters and open space above it would be easy to create a shelf or some type of fitting to hold the projector so that it would be out of the way and always available.
Oh, thats beautiful, i could live quite happily there, i expect in the winter ur lounge would be nice and cosy with the stove and glow from the fire, i live in a home made m/home with a stove gets a bit hot, so have to opeb my stable door to let the heat out, lol, my fire stays in all night a little poke in the morning and away to go,i use candles for the extra glow off the wood panelling, u must get iff u havent already, a fire extingwusher, but yes ur cabin is cracking
Thanks so much! Yeah we're really happy with it. It's super cosy and definitely warm enough in the winter. In fact, too warm. Like you, we have to open some windows just to cool it down a bit. You can't beat the glow of the fire and smell of wood smoke!
Thoroughly enjoyed this... its exactly whats been in my head to build. Thank you! Would like to know the roof pitch guessing 2/12 or 3/12 n the height of your ext walls guessing 7' great video!
I'm so confused about the classification of these caravan/mobile homes. I have been told categorically from lots of people that this is a static caravan so have been calling it that.
You're very welcome. There's a good amount of outdoor space. I have portioned a bit off for wood storage which is definitely necessary. A shed would be nice but not essential at the moment.
loved watching your project and it has inspired us to do the same kind of thing to our lodge/caravan/mobile home. Question... what was the reason to add OSB instead of going for the 6x1's directly to the stud work?
Looks great mate. Is it a law that it has to have wheels on it. Could you just build something that size out of timber with concrete pads if you own the land it’s on. ?
Unfortunately it's not that simple. The UK is a nightmare for planning so you have to jump through some hoops and even then there's no guarantee of legally being able to live on the land legally.
Great work! Mind sharing what and how much insulation you have for floor/walls/ceiling? I saw rockwool, but would love to know how much is there🤔 And what’s the lowest temperature you’ve had while living there?
Thanks a lot! That's a great question and unfortunately i'm not going to be able to answer it effectively. I can tell you that I bought about 15 rolls on insulation but i couldn't tell you how much was in a roll. It was eco rock wool from B&Q - we did have probably a couple of rolls left over. There were only two sections of the floor that we replaced but other than that left the original insulation in there which is very thin. We put insulation everywhere else in the cabin, in the roof, walls and even in the internal walls which wasn't necessary but we had it so just used it up in those internal walls. The lowest temperature was probably about -2 or -5C maximum in the night in the winter. The burner is our only source of heat and even in the winter we have to have the windows open because it gets so hot in there so it holds up really well in the winter.
lovely job! were curious to know how you got round planning and fire regs because we looked into retro fitting a caravan quite recently and things like changing doors, taking down walls , removing fire doors, and increasing ceiling height and taking out the ugly fireproof ceiling panels, were not permitted under fire safety regs .. Did we miss something ?
In the first full conversion video they removed the suspended ceiling , internal walls and doors , which presumable were fire doors and ceiling. The issue we found was that permission was granted , providing that it could still be moved ( ie was temporary structure ) and that we didn’t make modifications that breached fire regs - which meant certain modifications weren’t allowed( like opening up the kitchen) So would be great to hear from them how they got around this stuff in order that we can try the same methods.
That's a very good point. Truth be told we have just done it and it probably wouldn't pass (probably shouldn't be saying that!) It's a risk but so far so good! Really glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
Temporary buildings don't require building or fire regs. Something on wheels, skids or cabins don't come under that regulation umbrella. They are part of the caravan act, and that attracts completely different rules. They wouldn't have been fire doors in the original static building.
I am now and have been for a LONG TIME , sick of society and the crap that goes with it too, so now I want to go off grid and I am even thinking about boat life too as when you get bored with the place/people you can just pull up anchor and go
That's a good question. To be honest we had planned to put some up but because of the size of the burner compared to the size of the cabin it gets unbelievably hot so we actually have windows open if there burner is on in the winter. Curtains would be good but I guess we've just got used to not having any for some reason!
I really like watching these videos, I'm also looking at going off grid in the UK but please consider editing out the constant swallowing sounds or at least lower the volume, with the lavalier mic you're wearing, it's really pronounced.
You can see the full renovation video here: ua-cam.com/video/deyFZEeym4I/v-deo.htmlsi=i2tAjIHwsp9AGJ37

I agree completely!
A curtain under the sink would work well but what a fab job…learning along the way…you should be very proud of yourself!

Love how the scaffold plank counter came out with the burning process. It really suits the place and gives you that working space.👍

The small area that is for the clothes horse that you don't use would be a great place for a spice rack/pantry space. I love what you do have accomplished. Wood is the best material to deal with. ❤ Sidenote: pls, clone yourself and send one over to Estonia. 😂
Thanks so much. we thinks so too - love the wood finish - very rustic but feels homely. Hahah! I'll give the cloning thing a go!
Put the same fan you have on the stove, on top of one of the beams. Then when the heat rises the fan will relocate the heat.
Those fans have a Peltier module that creates thermo electric to power the motor to turn the fan. Only the direct transfere of heat from touching the stove powers it.
Phew, in short the fan would not work
@Superfandangoo ooh thanks for that! I have seen them in homes in Denmark. I have never needed to use one. But thought it may help 🤣😂🤪

Static caravans are holiday homes, yours is a residential home.
I'm so confused about the classification of these caravan/mobile homes. I have been told categorically from lots of people that this is a static caravan so have been calling it that.
Thanks for the overview. How much outdoor space do you have and are you planning to build a shed?
I saw rockwool, but would love to know how much is there🤔
And what’s the lowest temperature you’ve had while living there?
One question: Where does the cooking steam go?
Very good question. I purposely put the oven right in front of the window so it could draw out as much as possible without and extractor fan.
lovely job! were curious to know how you got round planning and fire regs because we looked into retro fitting a caravan quite recently and things like changing doors, taking down walls , removing fire doors, and increasing ceiling height and taking out the ugly fireproof ceiling panels, were not permitted under fire safety regs .. Did we miss something ?
dont think firedoors and fireproof ceiling panels were a thing in this static in the first place.
In the first full conversion video they removed the suspended ceiling , internal walls and doors , which presumable were fire doors and ceiling. The issue we found was that permission was granted , providing that it could still be moved ( ie was temporary structure ) and that we didn’t make modifications that breached fire regs - which meant certain modifications weren’t allowed( like opening up the kitchen)
So would be great to hear from them how they got around this stuff in order that we can try the same methods.
I am now and have been for a LONG TIME , sick of society and the crap that goes with it too, so now I want to go off grid and I am even thinking about boat life too as when you get bored with the place/people you can just pull up anchor and go
No curtain/blinds to keep the heat in during the winter months?
That's a good question. To be honest we had planned to put some up but because of the size of the burner compared to the size of the cabin it gets unbelievably hot so we actually have windows open if there burner is on in the winter. Curtains would be good but I guess we've just got used to not having any for some reason!
I really like watching these videos, I'm also looking at going off grid in the UK but please consider editing out the constant swallowing sounds or at least lower the volume, with the lavalier mic you're wearing, it's really pronounced.
yes looks nice now tell me have you thought about a bore hole ? As you can do it yourself i did ?? Little john from chichester
Thanks very much. Yes we have a borehole and everything is running from that. It’s glorious! Thanks for the comment Little John 🙌
Splendid 007 !@@offgridpath
@@zodzod9378hmm?
I'm going to look into that.😀
Fantastique
Thank you very much!
Will you get solar panels and a Boi gass box?
I am going to guess that you didn't use cement board in the shower room and that you now have problems with water ingress?
How much did that cost.
Wood has gone thru the roof.😮
it cost about £9k but that was during covid and managed to get in there before the wood prices went crazy. I imagine it would cost a fair bit more now
Do you own the land? Something im looking into but trying to figure out the best way around it all
I've done a video on my channel called 'buy land and live on it' - it goes into loads of detail on how you can do it
Very nearly? 😂
haha!
You talk way to much
I certainly do! Currently working on a silent channel where there’s no talking 🤙
Don't stop talking, it's great. 😊👍
I wouldn't mind living here
