Thank you so much for all the info you give us! :) I would absolutely love hearing your attempt on a track in "Blank Bodys" style Hes my absolute hero when it comes to unique electronic music. Anyways thanks again and much success, health and happiness in the future!
Hey Vita it' s great to see you rocking the Reason content eve if it is as VST in Live inspiring me to use other VST style lessons. Great content too! OK Damn I have enough work but I have to do this now! So Thanks! ;/
I am just about finished with your course online and it was worth every penny. You are a fantastic teacher. If i ever make hit song, i'm gonna mention you in the credits
This video creates for an interesting conversation. Would love to see a follow up video to this in the future how to make Shepard Tones risers and falls.👌🙂🙂🙂. Shepard Tones are a great way to add suspension.
You can create a shepard tone effect by stacking three or more octaves of the pitch bend effect explained in this video and fading out the top octave(s) and fading in the lower octave(s) on a loop. It may be easier said than done but that's essentially what shephard tones are.
This. I’ve seen a tut or 2 on Shepard tones but they’re ALWAYS lacking some data necessary to make a SMOOTH infinite riser. They usually say something like “stack a few pitch bends as fade the ends” but that always ends up in a Shepard tone that’s clearly repeating and not at all smooth and infinite.
Great little video, Oscar. Thanks. I’m a huge fan of homework like this. There’s a sense many tutorials go in one ear and out the other, so having some directed practice is super helpful.
this fear you speak of I know this and dealt with it when I was first starting out. It would even keep me from freezing and flattening in ableton. Turns out it is just procrastination and laziness, well it was on my part at least. Try diving into things that make you have that feeling and you will learn so much more and progress so much faster. Leveling was a big thing that was holding me back during those days, and it was because I was to lazy to learn proper leveling practices. There was just so many things to learn and there still are but now I can kind of pick and choose what I need if I feel a track is lacking.
Fantastic and simple explanation. It’s also used as atmospheric risers in the deep core psytrance culture, where a long breaks are not wanted. Cuz they can brake the tripping. So you create a riser who runs as atmosphere. Mostly one kick out of the bar and the next 8-16 bars are running. Without getting boring
Look at the spectrum as well. Increasing the power on the high freq side, filling the spectrum, results in a sense of tension. Specific chord progressions also built up tension
A tip for users of Ableton Live with M4L: connect the pitch-bend-value to a M4L-device so you don't have to change the value manually everytime to change the preset. Or do practically the same with 'regular' automation.
these videos are helpful, creative, and have a nice relaxed vibe... no negging me for not sounding "pro" like every other channel lol I also really appreciate the succinct summary you always give at the end... it really helps my learning process!
Long portamento also works great if you're using hardware or want to easily end on a certain note plus you c.an gate it to whatever rhythm you like to match the track. Nice vid

I hope this comment doesn't come off rude! I'm curious - how many times did you have to do that walk into frame? Having done many youtube videos myself I know how something seemingly simple can be really hard lol. As always great video friend, thanks for all the super insightful content helping us novice producers!
So much love. Really appreciating these foundational pieces or elements to music production. Another question: bridges, choruses, intros, etc. The linguistics of music. The smallest units. The conjunctions. The adjectives. The prepositions.
As always, great video! I always find inspiration in your work. Again, let me know if you ever start offering classes in Cubase. I would love to take it.
Dope, loving this tutorial w/theory sprinkles style, been learning to make all my sounds from scratch and these are dope to see specifics of working w/MIDI 🐓🖤😎🫶
Hi Oscar, you are the best teacher out on youtube..but somehow, your videos got very fast, very compressed? Or is it just me getting older? I need to stop now multiple times, because it makes me nervous, and repeat some explanations that went too fast-pls don‘t forget newbies don‘t pick up as fast as an expert as you. Otherwise glad to see you exploring this topic further, its such a creative playground.
risers are pretty cheesy i mean yeah they have their place, but yeah they need to be done tastefully. i like shepards tones though a video on a bunch of different ways to do those would be great!
Hey Oscar, thank you for another great tutorial! Would you consider making a tutorial about the sound sculpturing of Harrison BDP? That would be really interesting. U N D E R D O G F O R E V E R !
Oh, in response to the homework you assigned in this video. Do you know how to FREEZE a track within Reason Studios 12 DAW? I keep trying to figure out how to Freeze a track like you are able to FREEZE inside of Ableton. I don't have Ableton :(. My best work around for this feature has been to use Grain Sample Manipulation synth. But it doesn't sound as good as Abletons Freeze feature.
hmm... when I compare this video with your others, for example Rumblea (best tutorial on youtube), I have to say that I miss the expert stuff, for example in this case: crashes and reverse crashes at the end of a riser, laying several synths on top of each other and so on and so forth...
Hey man, i love your videos and would really love to buy your music education course. Tho i live in Turkey and its almost impossible for me to afford 250$ price for your course :( cant you do regional pricing so we all can get it 🤍

One of the best teacher for edm and Ableton! 👍
This video creates for an interesting conversation. Would love to see a follow up video to this in the future how to make Shepard Tones risers and falls.👌🙂🙂🙂. Shepard Tones are a great way to add suspension.
Vital has nice feature that allows you easily creating shepard tones.
You can create a shepard tone effect by stacking three or more octaves of the pitch bend effect explained in this video and fading out the top octave(s) and fading in the lower octave(s) on a loop. It may be easier said than done but that's essentially what shephard tones are.

wow thanks for the homework, small thing but it really shows gaps in the workflow of a beginner and how to improve for a more streamlined process 👍🏽
Reversing a cymbal works well too
Great little video, Oscar. Thanks. I’m a huge fan of homework like this. There’s a sense many tutorials go in one ear and out the other, so having some directed practice is super helpful.
My dude, this was great. So simple yet something I've been afraid of. Definitely taking on that homework.
this fear you speak of I know this and dealt with it when I was first starting out. It would even keep me from freezing and flattening in ableton. Such a disguise qith that camouflage jumper 😎 Great content Oscar, thanks🐕

Another excellent video, Oscar. And another impressive jumper! :)
Just about time!
I honestly enjoy just making sounds more than making tracks
make sample packs and market them
Can you do a tutorial on building tension without risers?
Small amounts of reverb is your friend :-) also try to use and automate the rate of an auto pan :-)
automating release and cutoff on your synths is rly useful for building up tension too
filters, drum fills
Look at the spectrum as well. Increasing the power on the high freq side, filling the spectrum, results in a sense of tension. Specific chord progressions also built up tension
he'll tell you - sometime. See - instant tension for ya.
Love this channel!!
Useful as always! Thanks Oscar & Underdog!
Absolutely eye opening for me 💯. Thanks so much Oscar.
Another very entertaining and enlightning video.Succint and instructive. Thanks Oscar.
Would like to get more homeworks like that :D

No word on reverse cymbal/crash sound? Good job on these videos BTW you are the MVP!
Right? Can't believe he didn't mention that.
Long portamento also works great if you're using hardware or want to easily end on a certain note plus you c.an gate it to whatever rhythm you like to match the track. Nice vid

Super helpful, thank you , other tutorials expect you to be a pro.
Really great videos. Keep going Oscar 👍🏻
So much love. Really appreciating these foundational pieces or elements to music production. Another question: bridges, choruses, intros, etc.
The linguistics of music. The smallest units. The conjunctions. The adjectives. The prepositions.
Another question: how does ducking influence track building? Should we duck bass, kick drum, only?
7:15 Very, Very important tip people!!!! (For Ableton)
As always, great video! I always find inspiration in your work. Again, let me know if you ever start offering classes in Cubase. I would love to take it.

thats amazing. Thank you! ¿are you using reason inside ableton live?

Can you teach us how to make creative noise downers? thatd be cool :) thanks for everything you do!
what is a noise downer?
@@CM-xr9oq it’s a transition fx that is like a reverse swoosh or like a white noise build up but in reverse Google them for some examples :)
@@jn1346 you can literally reverse any riser you made

Reason doesn't have a Freeze. Instead, use 'bounce in place'.
Can you do something on 'fallers' or the opposite of the riser?
Nice sweater Oscar 😆👌😉
Bought it the day before recording this, been on a mad sweater hot streak for the past few videos :D

choose a sample warp it as complex. adjust the pitch. :)
which plug-in did you use to change the ST?
what is the LFO tool modulating?
Alright. I'll get in touch. Lol
fuck yeaaaah thanks again Oscar!

I just came to say, I only thought about this briefly and never even said it out loud earlier. This marketing is getting invasive as shit.
