As Shounen readers, we often have an inherent value system that rewards characters for their physical accomplishments. So when Sanji is put into negative situations or is meant to look weak, we feel that Oda hates him or is “dropping the ball”. We fail to ask “Why does Oda keep putting Sanji into these unsavory scenarios?” Rarely does a writer like Oda do things without a reason. Underneath all the negativity was a compelling narrative of a character learning to love himself and come to terms with his own identity. Truly some masterclass writing.

And why does he need to have the many when what he does saves people in the story and allows it to move forward? Even if he lost to Doffy, we would've been down Nami, Brook, Ceaser & Chopper. I can't believe people still calls sanji useless?!? Just because he doesn't get a proper fight doesn't mean he's useless. I don't know how many times I've been saying this, sanji literally the reason about the samurai and pirates alliance, during dressrosa viola manage to trust him which also the reason why viola trust others. Sanji is also one of the crew who helps minks! And during wci we manage to know more about his character. Water 7: He was the one who informed the crew about Robin getting kidnapped and tried to save her by himself. Ennies Lobby: He saved the crew's life, AGAIN, from the buster call. Also he encouraged ussop that ussop was not useless. Dressrossa: He got viola's trust, and also became the temporary captain. Zou: He alongside the curly hats crew helped the minks. WCI: He saved the tottoland and the crew from bigmom's rage with his wedding cake. Wano: He saved momo's life, encouraged robin and chopper, saved the samurais and also the beast pirates from perospero and queen. He literally one of the most crucial crew member.
I don't think Sanji needs to "atone" for what he did when he literally had no choice in that moment. People say Zoro would be mad about it just like with Usopp, but fail to see that these situations are completely different. Usopp challenged Luffy and left the crew out of his own free will. Sanji did what he did because he actually sacrificed himself for the crew in that moment while also making sure that Zeff is safe at the same time.

Sanji doesn't owe Zoro anything. Sanji never disrespected Luffy, he just knew it was impossible to face BM and his entire gang in her territory and sacrificed himself to protect them. It was always about that and Luffy understood the whole time, if Zoro didn't understand how Nami didn't, he would hear from Luffy: "shut up, this is between me and him"

It's like saying Robin owes her apologies for lying to them when she just wanted to protect everyone from WG. Sanji wasn't there because he wanted to marry a beautiful woman and get out of the crew, he was sacrificing himself so everyone would be okay.

Gotta fight the Sanji was completely useless post TS until wci view. Can’t dispute that his pervert gag has been the most annoying but when he got a focused plot he completed his role well. In PH he saved Kin and as such was instrumental in getting the SH the connections and alliance they have. In Dressrosa he won over Viola who’s powers made sure Law and Luffy didn’t fall victim to Sugar. He also led half the crew to Zou away from Big Mom’s ship. In Zou he helped save the Minks this furthering the SH’s alliances and he got the rest of the crew away from Bege. Didn’t have impressive fights isn’t the same thing as useless 😊.
He also saved Tashigi from Vergo, Nami and Robin from Drake and Hawkins and stopped Doflamingo from bodying half the crew. People wanna act like he doesn't do anything just because he doesn't have many raw power feats.

Luffy definition of a hero: the one who shares his meat. Zoro definition of a hero: the one who shares his drink. Who of the Straw Hats has a main character trait to ALWAYS share food and drink with ANYONE, including enemies? In Luffy and Zoro’s eyes, even if they don’t say it, Sanji is a hero.
Sanji's actually a really great character So many people hating on him cuz of the thing with Black Maria but its actually impressive, that he was able to to adhere to his principles even though he could've easily died there

I really don't think that Sanji has to atone for what he did to Luffy in WCI because I see many people comparing what he did to what Usopp did, but I see it more like what Robin did and I think Zoro and everyone else in the crew will be understanding just like in Robin's case. Also given the rivalry between Zoro and Sanji, I don't think Sanji is accountable to Zoro. I also didn't like how Ohara kept saying he disrespected Luffy, can he say the same in Robin's case, well Sanji did fight with Luffy but I think the context and intent is what matters here even if the actions are same. I was really heartbroken when Sanji kicked Luffy, but I was not heartbroken for Luffy but for Sanji. Although I too don't like Sanji's pervy side, I love his flaws and like seeing him struggle with them.
@@cozy6560 if you can recall, in Mary when Usopp and Luffy were fighting, Sanji kicked Luffy because he went out of line by saying "then you shouldn't be in the crew" to Usopp. I didn't see Zoro or any Zoro fans saying Sanji should atone for that. Something about attitudes towards Sanji which always baffles me is that people didn't like those moments of weakness during WCI or asking Robin for help. But that stuff is amazing to me since it shows development and depth of character and it's something I want to see in other Strawhats as well, to have them have those moments of weakness and through that grow even further. Also I feel the complaints about the raid suit being destroyed are just completely missing the point and can't see that One Piece is more than just fights
If casual manga readers/ anime watchers understood One Piece for more than a journey to be pirate king, then they would know how beautiful it truly is.
Why do so many people perpetuate the “Sanji needs to atone” mentality? They keep comparing Sanji’s situation to Usopp when the two situations aren’t the same. Like, Usopp left because he had a disagreement with Luffy (one that would definitely put the crew in danger). Sanji “left” to not burden his crew and real family (The Baratie Chefs). Essentially acting as a sacrifice for what he thought was the greater good for both groups.
i am a massive zoro fanboy but Sanji's Kindness never ceases to remind me to be a kind for people who care about me. you don't have to hate sanji to be a harcore zoro fanboy. Sanji's Kindness is pure inspiration for someone like me in these difficult times
I don't know how people think that scene of him crying in the rain as him sad for Pudding, it's so clear to see and feel everything pouring on him, from the environment around being against him, his only hope falling, his only coping (cigarette) failing him, and even his own strength failing him, as he fails to hold on his tears.
What people also don't realise is Sanji cared about his family too, he's not the kinda person who would hate anyone just for beating he hated his dad for abusing his mother not for abusing him, Even do i like zoro more, Sanji character arc is best he's the most selfless strawhat, who's only goal is to make people happy
Thats what i dont understand about the fandom. I love zoro for beeing zoro, luffy for beeing luffy and sanji for beeing sanji. Sure i love how badass zoro can be. But sanji isnt a classical fighter. Zoro fights head on same as luffy while sanji is more mobile and do more then just trash things. Its like saying "ONLY PIZZA IS GOOD FOOD! SPAGETHI IS SHIT BECAUSE ITS NOT PIZZA!" We need different stuff so the combination of it gives us a richer flavor!
Zoro fans have a consistently great character who doesn’t have many flaws whilst Sanji fans like Sanji’s high moments more than Zoro’s high moments because they’re contrasted by his low moments. It’s so difficult to chose between the two for me but I love the direction Sanji is going

Sanji can't see Luffy's plot armor. Here's the thing: 1. Zeff and the other cooks are endangered. 2. LUFFY CAN'T POSSIBLY BEAT BM PIRATES. 3. Luffy is stubborn therefore, the only thing you need to do is let him hate you which, 4. Sanji bodied Luffy. Is that the same with Usopp? Nah. Usopp left out of his own free will. He challenge Luffy for his own sake. Sanji on the other hand fought Luffy TO SAVE THEM.
But even then he should have not fought luffy…… He should have learned by now, Luffy sturboness is infinite and doing that would only bring him(Sanji) pain and not change anything

But at the time of WCI, it wasn’t a matter of just knowing that Luffy had the POTENTIAL to pull something off. I mean, the crew had been separated by overconfidence before by Kuma, and although they got back together, the incident was eye opening for all of them that they needed to take the New World and it’s challenges very seriously. That on top of the fact that it was a personal issue with personal stakes Sanji never wanted the anyone to learn about in the first place pushed him to leave by himself. He wasn’t sound of mind, and considering he’s always been a brash and impulsive character (he can be more strategic, but even then I’d argue it’s to serve for the goals he and the crew make up on the spot), it just made sense to him. He thought he didn’t need the crew to handle the problem, it backfired horribly with the inclusion of Big Mom, and he didn’t want to be a detriment to them or do something that would wind up killing his father figure by just hoping Luffy would pull through for him while he was on a time crunch.
For the longest time I was a zoro fan and misunderstood Sanji but now that I re-read the manga during this year Sanji is my favorite straw hat. I really relate to his childhood and upbringing and was considered the black sheep of my family. Caring for other more than myself, which I'm still working on. My daughter is turning 11 in December and I would die a million times so she wouldn't be harmed in any way, it's a love I or others couldn't understand until your there when your daughter is born and she relies on your love and care. And I really love to kick stuff instead of punching when I trained Muay Thai. But I really suck at cooking. Great video, really get the feels when I think about Sanjis journey and mine and how they mirror each other. One piece is such a beautiful manga.
Great analysis, as always. The only misinterpretation in my opinion is to link Sanji's perviness to sexism: being a simp (which, by the way, it's a more accurate description than being pervy) is mainly connected to low self worth as well. Linking it with sexism it's a common misconception created by the current "school of thought" (which in my opinion is also because said perviness comes up more annoying nowadays) but in psychology it has very little to do with it.

I do agree that a simp would be a more accurate description for Sanji than a pervert. But let's not convince ourselves that just because his perverted actions come from his love of women rather than outright perversion, it makes it any less despicable. I feel like I've been misunderstood here, guys. I did say that 10 years ago or so Sanji's perviness wouldn't have looked so despicable... and we could argue about that all day, but that wasn't my point; my point was that maybe it's not that he became more pervy post time skip, but that we might be just percieve him to be more pervy because of the times changing (it was just a thought, I'm not really sure about it tbh and I do like the character growth explanation, it makes a lot of sense). Secondly, I didn't say that the perviness/simpness came from his love of women, I said it came from his low self worth, there's a big difference.
As you said, his growth is going to hit harder and better due to the mess Sanji's been post-timeskip. But even that mess is sort of justified by his "traumatic" experience in Momoiro Island (which pisses me off on a different level, but that's a queer conversation for another time) so no part of his character arc would be in vain. I love Sanji, he's a beautifully written character, flaws and all. Can't wait to see how his story develops ♥
It was more so Oda's depiction at fault rather than the experience not being genuinely traumatic. Regardless of gender, being sexually harassed everyday for two years would leave a deep impact on the soul.

Even ussop has done more after timeskip (till wci anyway) It has been shown very clearly throughout the show that zoro has a huge amount of respect for luffy and doesn't let anyone disrespect his captain. Sanji straight up disrespected luffy by beating him up, especially when luffy didn't even fought back and just wanted to talk. I know he did it for a reason and I don't think sanji was in the wrong either for doing that because he just wanted to protect the crew but that doesn't change the fact that sanji disrespected luffy regardless of his intentions.

He did what was best for the crew, i.e not having 2 emperors to deal with at the same time, which ended up that way anyway. So zoro should understand that Sanji tried to do what was best for the crew. I say this as a fan who likes both Sanji and Zoro.

Sanji was my favorite character since he was introduced and it's because he was the most stylish (not for how he dressed) and showed everyone the man he is and wants to be. His change on Whole Cake Island was a masterpiece to me and only made me more eager to watch his growth. Can't wait to see his true power up.
Sanji represents the archetype of the lover, it is said that our first love comes from our mother's love to us and this is shown beautifully in sanji's relationship with his mother and how he got his kind heart and passion from her, in his low point he turned into the shadow sides of the archetype ,mostly the addicted lover archetype but also the impotent lover one , but now that he is pulling through he is more balanced, a man who uses his passion and wears his heart over his sleeves , that's the lover, that's sanji.
I Think Zoro represents the warrior archetype being all about discipline and strength and Luffy the king archetype due to being a selfless leader who has the power to bring people on his side

Sexism is far too harsh a word to describe Sanji's attitude towards women. In his mind, the debt he owes to his mom and Reiju is extrapolated onto virtually all women, he doesn't think they're incapable or need protecting from men. Him relying on Robin was difficult because of his self imposed duty and not a reflection on some type of inferior view he had about her. Robin wouldn't have said it had to do with his kindness otherwise.
What does he need to atone for? Luffy understood the moment he met Sanji at WCI that he wasn't do anything by choice. Did Robin have to atone? No. Luffy went there and told her to say she wanted to live. He went to sanji and told him he wasn't leaving until he accepted his help. His "atonement" is accepting he doesn't have to shoulder everything and to trust Luffy and the other strawhats. He doesn't "owe" Zoro anything. Zoro isn't the end all be all. Luffy was there and mature about the whole situation. And they grew together. He definitely needs to finish his character arc. But no. There's nothing to atone for. Especially not to fucking Zoro of all people LMFAO. What is he? His father? Luffy's guardian having to always tell him what to do and how to react to things? No. We've grown past that.

to say at some point in the work that sanji is useless is absurdly idiotic, Oda has already made explicit the importance of a cook on a ship several times, with Luffy almost dying of poison because sanji was not present. Useless for being weak? Since it saves the weakest crew all the time, then is only Zoro useful in the entire pack? Because everyone else is weaker than Sanji.
I appreciate the emphasis you put into how his childhood trauma has shaped him as a person. As someone that experienced child abuse, Sanji is the easiest character to understand in his behavior for me. He clings to his value system so hard because it is the only good thing he had left and the only thing those that loved him gave him. Sanji is doing what survivors of child abuse have the task to do. Which is breaking the cycle. Refusing to abide by your abusers' moral code and refusing to repeat their actions onto those who are innocent. Refusing to let your pain cause more pain onto others. That's why he's kind.
There is one more extension to the whole asking Robin to fight Black Maria. Not only does Sanji prove that he has learned his lesson about trusting a crewmate to cover for his weakness (and Robin, a woman, who will be put in danger in this fight, to boot) but he also implicitly shows that he doesn’t care what will happen to the female adversary, Black Maria, anymore, who just threatened to turn him into a “man-toy” for her “amusement”. And he definitely knows Robin is going to turn Black Maria’s bones into dust in the ensuing fight. And he doesn’t care. I can’t stress this enough. That’s a lot of character growth in itself I think.
Great video but I will say that Sanji wasn't actually against a woman protecting him, Reiju saves him so he respects they are strong but will always go to save them when they need help. The reason the whole Kalifa thing was a problem is because Sanji would never kick her even if it meant his death but also his chivalrous nature would never allow him to run away because he needs to save Robin. The difference between these 2 situations is that Nami helps Sanji out of a tough situation saving Sanji from an inevitable death while in the black maria situation due to WCI Sanji knows that he can't just resign himself to his fate so now acknowledging his own worth calls for help, knowing his friends won't be angry at him for calling them to help him out when he's faced with a problem he can't handle. Adding Robin is a nice poetic way to tie Robin in but honestly Sanji only ever tries to save women that are actually in danger e.g Sanji saves Tashigi from Vergo because it was obvious Tashigi needed help but doesn't interfere when Wanda attacks Nami because Nami was winning that encounter. If Black Maria were looking for Franky or Brook Sanji would've asked them to come help him out since he doesn't have a problem with bad women getting their dues e.g Zoro vs Monet but since Maria wanted Robin, Sanji had to ask Robin for help otherwise Black Maria would kill him on the spot for disobeying, Black Maria is the one who underestimates Nico Robin, Sanji has always been aware his crew mates are strong since Nami defeated Kalifa. What Sanji was missing is the guts to ask out for someone to save him when he needs help in a pathetic situation.

sanji's most important and characteristic trait is his kindness, but that extreme kindness is what also makes him flawed, its really a very poetic and impressive character design
Monster trio is my fav characters, but Sanji in my opinion is a much more criative well written character, his story is the best and all this rules about never hit women, never waste food, don't use hands to fight, made him a really different character, would be the best easily if not for the gags
I agree with almost everything you pointed out, but except for Fishman Island I wouldn't call Sanji "useless". He didn't have major fights but still was important for many factors, the most important being his ability to transform enemies into friends. Also, the "atonement" thing totally miss the point of his actions in WCI. He did what he did to protect everybody, Oda LITERALLY put Luffy saying that Sanji was the one being hurt in that situation, its amazing people still thinks he "disrespected" Luffy
I still don't understand why people hate him being pervy but don't bother even looking upon Zoro getting lost. Now both of these traits are for pun but Sanji gets the all hate. To be me Sanji was an annoying character to and my favorite was Zoro until I saw WCI which abruptly changed my opinions on him since I went through shit Sanji had too. I relate to him so much he is my favorite character of all anime but I still love Zoro too a lot. It's just I love zoro but i relate to Sanji a lot. I only really decided to watch One Piece because of Sanji. At first, I just wanted to know more about this pretty boy character, only to fall in love with how deep his character arc gets. He's such a well written character (arguably THE best written character) and I will never get the fact that people don't like him because "he doesn't have awesome fights". Personally, I prefer characters who are more story centric than action packed. Which is why he's my favorite out of all the Strawhats. They all have great stories and awesome abilities, but none of them (as of now) are as explored as he is.
Sanji's arc is long and it ultimately resolves with him being the man Vinsmoke Judge should have been--restoring peace to family, bringing honor to his name, and caring for those for whom he has a duty.
I disagree with that 'Atone for what he did in wci especially in front of zoro' part😅zoro wasn't even present in wci, besides the issue has been settled between the captain and sanji himself

Here's the actual reason Sanji is the greatest character in terms of development (despite twitter): Everything said in the video counts here, but also BECAUSE of his perv side. You guys literally cannot say that Sanji doesn't have a great sense of empathy and respect for women, even back at Baratie. He's a huge perv and have peeked into women's baths, yes, but that NEVER conflicted with how he generally treats and views them. He doesn't save them because he wants a congratulatory fuck (just validation), he trusts his own life to the women that can recue him and simply cannot hit one because that's his upbringing and him being true to it (not because he thinks they are weak). Sanji, to me, is the pinnacle of an empathetic person. Specially after Whole Cake Island where he learned to be more like that with himself. He's a perv yes. But sexual attraction exists guys, it's not a sin and when it happens in the show it doesn't detract from the story. This is just another case of Twitter being way too prude.

Let's be honest here, Sanji is most controversial due to the fact that Zorotards keep downplaying this man when he's 10x a better character than Zoro. People tend to forget that Zoro's character is literally made to be liked. He has no flaws and is made for "cool" moments for kids who only like "cool" stuff. Writing-wise, Zoro is as plain as a rock and IS NOT EVEN CLOSE to Sanji's level. Power-scaling wise they're more or less equal at this point, but writing-wise Sanji is easily TOP 3 in all of Series, arguably Top 1.
This is true, best written character-wise sanji wins the cake easily. Ive been saying this all the time that zoro was made to be a fan service character. Oda uses him for badass moments amd fights, he’s always been the same and never had any issue as a character. That’s also why I said oda’s favorite in the crew after luffy is definitely sanji because he always gets his own subplot whether it is for comedy or not, writing scenes and giving sanji moments take time and extra work so it means that oda really enjoys writing sanji.
My favorite moment during this arc has to be when Sanji father asked why luffy came after him and started listing all these “bad” things about him and luffy was just like bye thanks for your help and said why did he list all those good things about him
The fact that we havent been shown what all of the Strawhats done during the timeskip proves that none of them have gone 100% in any fight. Even Luffy hasn't because no one, not even Rayleigh, knows what Luffy did suring the last 6 months of his training

So when Sanji is put into negative situations or is meant to look weak, we feel that Oda hates him or is “dropping the ball”. We fail to ask “Why does Oda keep putting Sanji into these unsavory scenarios?” Rarely does a writer like Oda do things without a reason. Underneath all the negativity was a compelling narrative of a character learning to love himself and come to terms with his own identity. Truly some masterclass writing.

I don't think Sanji needs to "atone" for what he did when he literally had no choice in that moment. People say Zoro would be mad about it just like with Usopp, but fail to see that these situations are completely different. Usopp challenged Luffy and left the crew out of his own free will. Sanji did what he did because he actually sacrificed himself for the crew in that moment while also making sure that Zeff is safe at the same time.

Sanji doesn't owe Zoro anything. Sanji never disrespected Luffy, he just knew it was impossible to face BM and his entire gang in her territory and sacrificed himself to protect them. Gotta fight the Sanji was completely useless post TS until wci view. Can’t dispute that his pervert gag has been the most annoying but when he got a focused plot he completed his role well. In PH he saved Kin and as such was instrumental in getting the SH the connections and alliance they have. In Dressrosa he won over Viola who’s powers made sure Law and Luffy didn’t fall victim to Sugar. He also led half the crew to Zou away from Big Mom’s ship. In Zou he helped save the Minks this furthering the SH’s alliances and he got the rest of the crew away from Bege. Didn’t have impressive fights isn’t the same thing as useless 😊.

I really don't think that Sanji has to atone for what he did to Luffy in WCI because I see many people comparing what he did to what Usopp did, but I see it more like what Robin did and I think Zoro and everyone else in the crew will be understanding just like in Robin's case. Also given the rivalry between Zoro and Sanji, I don't think Sanji is accountable to Zoro. I also didn't like how Ohara kept saying he disrespected Luffy, can he say the same in Robin's case, well Sanji did fight with Luffy but I think the context and intent is what matters here even if the actions are same. I was really heartbroken when Sanji kicked Luffy, but I was not heartbroken for Luffy but for Sanji. Although I too don't like Sanji's pervy side, I love his flaws and like seeing him struggle with them.

Something about attitudes towards Sanji which always baffles me is that people didn't like those moments of weakness during WCI or asking Robin for help. But that stuff is amazing to me since it shows development and depth of character and it's something I want to see in other Strawhats as well, to have them have those moments of weakness and through that grow even further. Also I feel the complaints about the raid suit being destroyed are just completely missing the point and can't see that One Piece is more than just fights
Look, i find those "moments of weakness" heartbreaking and it was the moment when Sanji becoming my most favorite character.

Why do so many people perpetuate the “Sanji needs to atone” mentality? They keep comparing Sanji’s situation to Usopp when the two situations aren’t the same.
Like, Usopp left because he had a disagreement with Luffy (one that would definitely put the crew in danger). Sanji “left” to not burden his crew and real family (The Baratie Chefs). Essentially acting as a sacrifice for what he thought was the greater good for both groups.

I don't know how people think that scene of him crying in the rain as him sad for Pudding, it's so clear to see and feel everything pouring on him, from the environment around being against him, his only hope falling, his only coping (cigarette) failing him, and even his own strength failing him, as he fails to hold on his tears.
What people also don't realise is Sanji cared about his family too, he's not the kinda person who would hate anyone just for beating he hated his dad for abusing his mother not for abusing him, Even do i like zoro more, Sanji character arc is best he's the most selfless strawhat, who's only goal is to make people happy

Zoro fans have a consistently great character who doesn’t have many flaws whilst Sanji fans like Sanji’s high moments more than Zoro’s high moments because they’re contrasted by his low moments. It’s so difficult to chose between the two for me but I love the direction Sanji is going

Sure he’s seen Luffy do impressive things in the past, it’s how Zeff encouraged Sanji to join him.
But at the time of WCI, it wasn’t a matter of just knowing that Luffy had the POTENTIAL to pull something off. I mean, the crew had been separated by overconfidence before by Kuma, and although they got back together, the incident was eye opening for all of them that they needed to take the New World and it’s challenges very seriously. That on top of the fact that it was a personal issue with personal stakes Sanji never wanted the anyone to learn about in the first place pushed him to leave by himself. He wasn’t sound of mind, and considering he’s always been a brash and impulsive character (he can be more strategic, but even then I’d argue it’s to serve for the goals he and the crew make up on the spot), it just made sense to him. He thought he didn’t need the crew to handle the problem, it backfired horribly with the inclusion of Big Mom, and he didn’t want to be a detriment to them or do something that would wind up killing his father figure by just hoping Luffy would pull through for him while he was on a time crunch.

For the longest time I was a zoro fan and misunderstood Sanji but now that I re-read the manga during this year Sanji is my favorite straw hat. I really relate to his childhood and upbringing and was considered the black sheep of my family. Caring for other more than myself, which I'm still working on. My daughter is turning 11 in December and I would die a million times so she wouldn't be harmed in any way, it's a love I or others couldn't understand until your there when your daughter is born and she relies on your love and care. And I really love to kick stuff instead of punching when I trained Muay Thai. But I really suck at cooking. Great video, really get the feels when I think about Sanjis journey and mine and how they mirror each other. One piece is such a beautiful manga.

Great analysis, as always. The only misinterpretation in my opinion is to link Sanji's perviness to sexism: being a simp (which, by the way, it's a more accurate description than being pervy) is mainly connected to low self worth as well. Linking it with sexism it's a common misconception created by the current "school of thought" (which in my opinion is also because said perviness comes up more annoying nowadays) but in psychology it has very little to do with it.

I feel like I've been misunderstood here, guys. I did say that 10 years ago or so Sanji's perviness wouldn't have looked so despicable... and we could argue about that all day, but that wasn't my point; my point was that maybe it's not that he became more pervy post time skip, but that we might be just percieve him to be more pervy because of the times changing (it was just a thought, I'm not really sure about it tbh and I do like the character growth explanation, it makes a lot of sense).
Secondly, I didn't say that the perviness/simpness came from his love of women, I said it came from his low self worth, there's a big difference.
As you said, his growth is going to hit harder and better due to the mess Sanji's been post-timeskip. But even that mess is sort of justified by his "traumatic" experience in Momoiro Island (which pisses me off on a different level, but that's a queer conversation for another time) so no part of his character arc would be in vain.

It was more so Oda's depiction at fault rather than the experience not being genuinely traumatic. Regardless of gender, being sexually harassed everyday for two years would leave a deep impact on the soul.

It has been shown very clearly throughout the show that zoro has a huge amount of respect for luffy and doesn't let anyone disrespect his captain. Sanji straight up disrespected luffy by beating him up, especially when luffy didn't even fought back and just wanted to talk. I know he did it for a reason and I don't think sanji was in the wrong either for doing that because he just wanted to protect the crew but that doesn't change the fact that sanji disrespected luffy regardless of his intentions.

remember it's luffy's crew not Zoro's. And we already know from Whole cake arc that Luffy and Sanji have cleared things out. Also it was not Sanji's fault in the first place when he left. He did what was best for the crew, i.e not having 2 emperors to deal with at the same time, which ended up that way anyway. So zoro should understand that Sanji tried to do what was best for the crew.

His change on Whole Cake Island was a masterpiece to me and only made me more eager to watch his growth. Can't wait to see his true power up.

Sanji represents the archetype of the lover, it is said that our first love comes from our mother's love to us and this is shown beautifully in sanji's relationship with his mother and how he got his kind heart and passion from her, in his low point he turned into the shadow sides of the archetype ,mostly the addicted lover archetype but also the impotent lover one , but now that he is pulling through he is more balanced, a man who uses his passion and wears his heart over his sleeves , that's the lover, that's sanji.
I Think Zoro represents the warrior archetype being all about discipline and strength and Luffy the king archetype due to being a selfless leader who has the power to bring people on his side

Sexism is far too harsh a word to describe Sanji's attitude towards women. In his mind, the debt he owes to his mom and Reiju is extrapolated onto virtually all women, he doesn't think they're incapable or need protecting from men. Him relying on Robin was difficult because of his self imposed duty and not a reflection on some type of inferior view he had about her. Robin wouldn't have said it had to do with his kindness otherwise.
What does he need to atone for? Luffy understood the moment he met Sanji at WCI that he wasn't do anything by choice. Did Robin have to atone? No. Luffy went there and told her to say she wanted to live.
He went to sanji and told him he wasn't leaving until he accepted his help. His "atonement" is accepting he doesn't have to shoulder everything and to trust Luffy and the other strawhats. He doesn't "owe" Zoro anything. Zoro isn't the end all be all. Luffy was there and mature about the whole situation. And they grew together.
He definitely needs to finish his character arc. But no. There's nothing to atone for. Especially not to fucking Zoro of all people LMFAO. What is he? His father? Luffy's guardian having to always tell him what to do and how to react to things? No. We've grown past that.

I appreciate the emphasis you put into how his childhood trauma has shaped him as a person. As someone that experienced child abuse, Sanji is the easiest character to understand in his behavior for me. He clings to his value system so hard because it is the only good thing he had left and the only thing those that loved him gave him.
Sanji is doing what survivors of child abuse have the task to do. Which is breaking the cycle. Refusing to abide by your abusers' moral code and refusing to repeat their actions onto those who are innocent. Refusing to let your pain cause more pain onto others. That's why he's kind.
There is one more extension to the whole asking Robin to fight Black Maria.
Not only does Sanji prove that he has learned his lesson about trusting a crewmate to cover for his weakness (and Robin, a woman, who will be put in danger in this fight, to boot) but he also implicitly shows that he doesn’t care what will happen to the female adversary, Black Maria, anymore, who just threatened to turn him into a “man-toy” for her “amusement”.
And he definitely knows Robin is going to turn Black Maria’s bones into dust in the ensuing fight. And he doesn’t care. I can’t stress this enough.
That’s a lot of character growth in itself I think.
Great video but I will say that Sanji wasn't actually against a woman protecting him, Reiju saves him so he respects they are strong but will always go to save them when they need help. The reason the whole Kalifa thing was a problem is because Sanji would never kick her even if it meant his death but also his chivalrous nature would never allow him to run away because he needs to save Robin. The difference between these 2 situations is that Nami helps Sanji out of a tough situation saving Sanji from an inevitable death while in the black maria situation due to WCI Sanji knows that he can't just resign himself to his fate so now acknowledging his own worth calls for help, knowing his friends won't be angry at him for calling them to help him out when he's faced with a problem he can't handle. Adding Robin is a nice poetic way to tie Robin in but honestly Sanji only ever tries to save women that are actually in danger e.g Sanji saves Tashigi from Vergo because it was obvious Tashigi needed help but doesn't interfere when Wanda attacks Nami because Nami was winning that encounter.
If Black Maria were looking for Franky or Brook Sanji would've asked them to come help him out since he doesn't have a problem with bad women getting their dues e.g Zoro vs Monet but since Maria wanted Robin, Sanji had to ask Robin for help otherwise Black Maria would kill him on the spot for disobeying, Black Maria is the one who underestimates Nico Robin, Sanji has always been aware his crew mates are strong since Nami defeated Kalifa. What Sanji was missing is the guts to ask out for someone to save him when he needs help in a pathetic situation.

I agree with almost everything you pointed out, but except for Fishman Island I wouldn't call Sanji "useless". He didn't have major fights but still was important for many factors, the most important being his ability to transform enemies into friends.
Also, the "atonement" thing totally miss the point of his actions in WCI. He did what he did to protect everybody, Oda LITERALLY put Luffy saying that Sanji was the one being hurt in that situation, its amazing people still thinks he "disrespected" Luffy
I still don't understand why people hate him being pervy but don't bother even looking upon Zoro getting lost. Now both of these traits are for pun but Sanji gets the all hate. To be me Sanji was an annoying character to and my favorite was Zoro until I saw WCI which abruptly changed my opinions on him since I went through shit Sanji had too. I only really decided to watch One Piece because of Sanji. At first, I just wanted to know more about this pretty boy character, only to fall in love with how deep his character arc gets. He's such a well written character (arguably THE best written character) and I will never get the fact that people don't like him because "he doesn't have awesome fights".
Personally, I prefer characters who are more story centric than action packed. Which is why he's my favorite out of all the Strawhats. They all have great stories and awesome abilities, but none of them (as of now) are as explored as he is.
Sanji's arc is long and it ultimately resolves with him being the man Vinsmoke Judge should have been--restoring peace to family, bringing honor to his name, and caring for those for whom he has a duty.

Let's be honest here, Sanji is most controversial due to the fact that Zorotards keep downplaying this man when he's 10x a better character than Zoro. People tend to forget that Zoro's character is literally made to be liked. He has no flaws and is made for "cool" moments for kids who only like "cool" stuff. Writing-wise, Zoro is as plain as a rock and IS NOT EVEN CLOSE to Sanji's level. Power-scaling wise they're more or less equal at this point, but writing-wise Sanji is easily TOP 3 in all of Series, arguably Top 1.

This is true, best written character-wise sanji wins the cake easily. Ive been saying this all the time that zoro was made to be a fan service character. Oda uses him for badass moments amd fights, he’s always been the same and never had any issue as a character. That’s also why I said oda’s favorite in the crew after luffy is definitely sanji because he always gets his own subplot whether it is for comedy or not, writing scenes and giving sanji moments take time and extra work so it means that oda really enjoys writing sanji.
