Such a beautiful day to do some cemetery wandering! It looks like Spring has finally arrived. I really love that this cemetery seems to be well cared for, even with so many repares needing to be done. Thanks for taking us along Matt! Have a great week 🙂
We have a neighborhood cemetery. The subdivisions were built around it. It's off the main road. I think the last burial was in the 40's. When this was all farmland there was a church nearby along with several others. Only 1 pastor. The pastor would travel to a different church each Sunday. People would have to travel to that church for services. Eventually most of the churches fell out of use because the majority of the people would only travel to one church. Maybe something similar happened here. Loved the beautiful day that you had filming Matt. Thank you and Hi to everyone!
I a few years back I was going to visit the old home place of my mom's just outside of Elk City Oklahoma. I noticed that an old grave yard was gone. Way off in the distance I found not # or stacked. They were just thown in a big pile and chipped. It sort of ruined my day. To this day, it still makes me sad. So sad.
That is awful. My heart breaks for the lack of respect that the dead are treated. My condolences to you and any family members of the ones whose final resting places have been destroyed. 😥
You are encouraging me to find one of my families old graveyards, I remember going out to it as a child of 10 but haven't been there since. I think some of my mothers older cousins might remember where it is. My mom used to know but she passed in January.
I love your visits to old graveyards. I'm going through your videos and watching the cemetery ones first. I will check out the abandoned places videos. Promise.
539 productions thanks Matt for sharing with me another Abandoned Church is saving this Historic Graveyard i really enjoyed this video sorry Matt for missing the live chat i had a little trouble with my computer but it is fine now but i hope to see your next videos on both channels and God Bless you my friend and thanks again.
I hope the restoration/upkeep continues, that looks like hard (soft) ground to battle. It looks like it's going too be constant job, to do upkeep there, but I am glad they are trying.
Another great cemetery video. I'm thoroughly enjoying these. That pipe sticking out of the ground could've been a pole for a sign for the church perhaps. It's sad how those headstones were sinking but the cemetery itself looked well cared for. Thanks for sharing and all you do to bring us these excellent videos. Stay safe, Matt.
That is so Heartbreaking to see, but like you said, it does appear someone does come out to take Care of the Cemetery, now I know this was filmed a couple of years ago, hopefully they kept up with the restoration....Great video Matt as always!
This cemetery is it great need of help. Where I live when the stones start to sink they fix the problem early on. I think family or someone else is putting the bricks around the headstones not an official caretaker. So very sad, that is a lot of damage. There are some amazing headstones in this cemetery. Thanks Matt
Can you tell me what the significance of stone tree trunks mean? I visited all my ancestors graves sites an some had these stone tree trunks. Very nice vlog. Thank you.
That was the softest ground for a cemetery. The challenge isn't the base it's simply the moisure in the ground. Arkansas river gravel would be good as a prop and Is attractive too.
You run across some mysteries in your visits to graveyards. One that has intrigued me is the number of times you have found graves either on the other side of the fence or away from the others. One very old tradition, and I do not know if this was done in this country or in the 19th and 20th centuries, was that suicides were buried outside of the consecrated ground. Just a possible suggestion on that topic.
I know at one of my ancestor's cemeteries the farmers give he fenceline a wide berth because of that tradition. They wouldn't even bury excommunicated deceased inside the Catholic cemetery so they would be buried just outside the fenceline as to signify their eternal wait in Purgatory.
Hi Matt, yet another lovely graveyard where they have tried so hard to keep it nice. I guess they should have checked whether the soil would make the markers sink before they decided to form the graveyard. I have just joined Patreon and have pledged $3 per month to you :). Sorry it isn't more :'(. xx
there is a really historic cemetary in carlisle pennsylvania molly pitcher is buried there as well as other revolutionary war veterans its right in the boroough
Matt I was curious of the last name pancake I looked it up on the web and I found some interesting information about last name pancake When you have a chance look it up spell totally different in Germany , Dutch and East Germany pancake spelling different in three countries
That is my husband's family. His mother was a Pancake from that area. When they migrated over from Germany they simply translated the name from Phannkuchen to Pancake. Lots of them here.
Bobbie Whittenbarger Interesting history On people last name Because it tell you information about last name Like Farnsworth English Means I have family, immigrants from England
Pretty cool, John. My maiden name was Updegrove. It means "of the count" The story we found tells of a count who had an illegitimate son with a nun. (I guess that's more than we wanted to know...lol)
@@bobbalooie69 If i look at the name Updegrove it looks like it is a Dutch name. Coming to the Us they did not speak the language . The name is written down as it sounded like.Looks like it was originally Op de groeve.
Had to laugh hen you found the "interesting last name" of Pancake. My husband's mother was a Pancake. It's very common in the little town he grew up near. It's a huge family. Don't know where you are, but we're in NW Ohio. The original German name was Pfannkuchen, which translates to Pancake.
The jokes on me. You were exactly in or near my husband's home town and that was one of his relatives' grave. I explored a cemetery there that might have been the same one and there had been a tornado go through there at some time. We also had seen the pipe (or whatever it was) sticking up and questioned what it was. How funny. There was another last name I had recognized there, but didn't put it all together. Too funny. I love your videos. You do such a great job and your voice is so soothing and respectful.
dustyrusty musty. It a multitude of things. One could have been upkeep and they couldn’t keep it up, two vandalism and not being able to keep up,with that or just really no more people apart of that church. By the looks of the ground and graves there’s areas to be no fire so it couldn’t have burn down. Sometimes when the cemetery upkeep it could be a family member who cares and wants to keep it going
Sad to say it, but I am starting to be more cool with cemeteries that no longer allow standing headstones. Just knowing how so many fall prey to the effects of time.
Nice video. The graves are old, but some what, kept up. You must be on travel time? I miss you Matt.
I have never seen gravestones sunk into the ground that deep! Wat a great find! Thank you for sharing!
Hey Matt that pipe in the ground could be a well casing with a welded on cap
Thanks for the info, Arthur!!
Im thinking a old flag pole.

Its sad over thé years how cemeteries can fall into ruin. A lot of work for someone to restore. Nice to see someone is trying. Keep Safe❤ Keep Well❤
I live in Ohio and visit cemeteries often many have people with the last name pancake buried in them.
I love your visits to old graveyards. I'm going through your videos and watching the cemetery ones first. I will check out the abandoned places videos. Promise.
Another great video Matt. Hopefully, restoration groups can get together and fix the graves. Have a good day.

Great job Matt.

I've heard of that as well, also might be they committed a bad crime so they kept them away from the rest who knows
Thank you for the information, Ann!
Thanks, Dave!

Enjoy your videos but the only problem is we only get to read a few of the headstones.
Go to Beech Grove cemetery in Indiana. Lots of Virginia migrants there.
Do a video on babies sections of these old sites. I have seen these sites.
What abandoned church is saving this graveyard¿ I dint see any mention of a church in this video.

I'm from the Netherlands john. In Dutch the word for pancake is panne(n)koek.

sadly lots of the relatives are no more... too much time has passed.
have you gone to st. Patrick cemetery in Ohio? That is where Benjamin Orr is buried at" i believe it is Thompson Ohio

Also, that area was part of the Black Swamp and the land had to be drained to build the town. Rich farmland but maybe not so good for cemeteries.
I wonder what happened to the church?

Tornado, I believe. I live near there. Some of the stones were also knocked over.
Somebody needs to fix them.
Would be nice to read the headstone or have u read them . You go to fast

👍🏻⭐️❤️👍🏻
Looks like the Marion or Mansfield areas in Ohio.
🇧🇷🇧🇷
The elements are not kind to old cemeteries.
Maybe it’s the dead talking! 🤓
I know a girl who married a guy with the name pancake
