For me the production is every bit as genius as the lyrics - the sense of ‘space’, the in-and-out aspect of the vocals as the heavenly body orbits, that flute dancing on the edges just wanting to be heard…
This song makes my geeky sciency self so happy. The lyrics, the production, the word play, everything. 💜 I absolutely dug into the lyrics when I first heard this song, I always do with almost all songs, and yes, my mind was blown. The analogy of a relationship to the declassification of Pluto did remind of Whalien 52, and just beautiful. I even waxed poetic about it to my boss. His reaction was like, okaaaaayyy. lol.
Eris represents the other man she left him for. The most touching part is where he (Suga) says he is ok after a year and does not even remember her aroma, then he smells her perfume and turns and she is there….she is smiling, but his heart is about to explode- This tears at my heart!
134340 pushed me into the rabbit hole because I'm a nerd and recognized the number on the album tracklist when I was still a casual listener. I found a translation, and got amazed by it. Once I started with the translations, there was no way out
@@donitapolk9413 Hahaha that's was mee. I studied their lyrics as if I was doing research for a doctorate thesis, and still didn't noticed I was falling deeper and deeper in an endless hole.
I love 134340 and it was one of the most unexpected surprises of falling down the rabbit hole, I recognized the Brazilian bossa nova from crossover hits to my country from when I was a kid, imagine this at a beachfront retro club in Rio de Janeiro with couples dancing. The lyrics were the cherry on top, the whole concept of the song is executed masterfully, it's amazing that they can do so many genres of music and do them so well. Love 134340 💜
I love this song. It is possibly my all time favorite song. It was on my playlist for several weeks, without knowing the lyrics at all, I just loved grooving to it, including the flute. Finally one night before bed, I just had to do a quick look up of the lyrics. Five hours later, I finally came up for air. Yes, my mind was blown. I love a good metaphor and 134340 is a GREAT metaphor. I had already been learning Korean for about 8 months, so I saw the word play and just melted some more. I looked up the poem Doolset mentioned, the poem's significance, and everything else I could find related to the song.
This song is on my top 5, really underrated. To me the flute sounds like that because it represents Pluto. It wanted to be noticed saying its still there and will never leave, it is weaving throughout the song in an irregular pattern just like how Pluto is orbiting the sun. I hope you check out the live version of this Cap. And also, the part you’re confused if its Yoongi or Hobi, that’s all Yoongi for you. I love his part on this song. This song is a very clever representation of what a heartbreak feels like and how it is so hard to try to move on.
I love how we're all different, The first time i heard this song i was boom mind blown, I loved it, loved the weird drunk flute player lol. Then i got the lyrics and BOOM mind blown even more. The use of the similarities between the declassification of Pluto and being replaced in a relationship was so smart, so damn smart. -248c is the apparent temp of Pluto and pretty much how cold you feel when you meet your ex in the street. Pluto was my fave planet growing up and i was sad when it was declassified, to have BTS write a song like this and use it in a context like this is just genius. much love
The songwriters for this song 134340 (Pluto) are pure word players and geniuses. Love the jazzy and funk feel to relax to. Love you, Roscoe, keep up the great work.
134340 and Whalien 52 definitely sit at the same table and both are among my favorite songs, partially because of the geeky science content and partially because I just love a good extended metaphor in a song. 134340 is constantly vying for the title of My All Time Favorite BTS song. I definitely dug into the lyrics immediately. I love everything about the song and the flute’s irregular melody representing Pluto’s irregular orbit is the same kind of awesome easter egg as the high pitched vocal/whale call in Whalien.
My last comment got cut off I think, so I'll say it here... The irony that Roscoe cut off the flute representing pluto just like pluto got cut off from being a planet. ㅠㅡㅠ Saaaaaaad.
I LOVE this song. It’s one of my favorites. Sometimes certain types of jazz can sound too random but this one really works for me. And, yes, the lyrics were mind blowing 💜
I love the jazzy feel of this song. The boys always blow me away with their lyrics. They write songs like no one else. They do love to write about space, and anything to do with it. Just such intelligent people. Borahae!
🤯RM’s word play in its self blows we away. Did you know even poets in Korea do rhyming in there work. That’s what BTS does that no other Kpop do. That’s RM and his ability to play with words. He Rhymes! He is one of a kind!!
Yes! I love this song. It's happy nerdy time and also, dark sad lyrics time. I always call it the best use of a jazz flutist ever. Mind blown, indeed. Thanks for the reaction! 💜
I loved your reaction. on the contrary I LOVEEEE the flutes and all the crazyness going on in the back ground lol. this relationship break up song hit different and the comparison to being thrown away or forgotten like Pluto is amazing. I appreciated your insight. I wonder how you will feel about the song after a couple moe plays those flutes become earworms lol. Thanks Soju boi
Yes! The lyrics to this one definitely blew my mind the first time. The flute... threw me for a loop. But it doesn't bother me as much as it bothered you lol ...maybe because I tend to think of the flute as the musical depiction of Pluto after its name/meaning were removed. Like they're playing and they kinda know the song, but someone stole their sheet music so now they're left "circling without traction". And the metaphor of BTS being stars and wondering if their fans are someday going to find an "Eris" and leave them nameless and meaningless breaks my heart every time.
Roscoe! Hey Cap'n! I adore this song and the flute is one of my favorite things. I was so happy that the lyrics actually said what the song felt like to me. So often the guys get you bopping around happily to a not so happy song.🤷🏾♀️ Yes, my mind was blown when I learned that this jazzy melancholy groove was about Pluto losing planet status!😳 J.o... 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I dug into the lyrics like you did (this is just the way I binged their songs when I was unknowingly falling) and was mind blown. But I love the music and I love the flute player. Yes, smoky, jazzy room sipping on something smoky, jazzy roomish... I love it💜.
What i love about BTS is their lyrics... sometimes 1 listen to a song does not do it for me however after listening a few times and knowing the lyrics i totally get the song and also the melody and instrumentals used were fitting to the song...💜
Love this song. Yes it's named Pluto but can also be about a relationship. I'm still in your orbit but you don't acknowledge me any more. The heartbreak of it in Suga's verse.
This song is a masterpiece. It's very experimental in the production and instrumentals. If you pay attention to some of the production tricks where the sound goes on and off, is recreating the space and isolation of the person/planet. Love the lyrics, after the first listen it urges you to check the lyrics. The theme of the song fits perfectly with the concept of this album which is "TEAR" as tearing apart. RM's and SUGA's verses stand out the most for me, very creative and swaggy storytelling. This song is in my top 5 of BTS songs from their 300+ songs catalog.
17:00 Hehehehe you saw my comment 😆 I cracked myself up with that one! I like the flute, I remember the first time I listened to it I thought only BTS could make me vibe this hard to a jazz flute ( I did think of anchorman 😆) I did look up the lyrics because I love outer space and a song about Pluto I was hooked. I loved it, such poetry!
I wonder....do you here this differently now that you can distinguish their voices and are farther down the rabbit hole? Love the total geekiness and deep poetry of this song. I'm down with the drunk flautist too hehehe
I love jazz, and so this song was intriguing when I first heard it. The flute stood out to me as it reminded me of a jazz flute piece I heard called, "Zoom Tube." I liked the flute in this song but initially had a hard time reconciling this song with what I thought BTS's music was supposed to sound like. (I had heard this relatively early in my research into why BTS was popular.) It was when I read the lyrics that, as you so accurately stated, my mind was blown! 🤯 (cuz u forgot. Tee hee!) Now I adore this song even more, and while it sounds a bit strange, this is my summer drive jam! (Along with Ugh!) 💜
Thank you, Roscoe as always. Your point about a relationship with Whalien 52 is so true - for me too. I love this song = don't think it gets enough appreciation, and, yes, it is, in fact, a poem. Why on EARTH do I like BTS? .... hmmm, I WONDER .... HAH!
Yep, my mind was blown. However, I first listened to this with another reactor, Bazza, and he instantly recognized the numbers & then I was educated 😁 I really like the way the music is put together. The flute's part, for me, is the new boyfriend/girlfriend that you keep seeing the ex with, lol. Like they just won't go away. Or you can put it in Pluto's terms, i.e., the new "planet" that won't go away. 💜
Pluto is one of my favorite songs. The flute player doesn't bother me. Didn't even notice it the way you did. I love jazz so this song is in my wheel house
This is a song that grew on me over time, and I always loved the creativity behind it. You should check out a live performance too when you have the chance! :)
Can’t lie; I love the flute. It gives me total beatnik vibes. Can’t help thinking of the song “Going Up The Country” by Canned Heat. I think maybe for you the flute is like the audio equivalent of your ‘cat hat’ - totally distracting 😂
Okay, u might laugh... But, to me the lyrics and emotions of the song always meant - how the Pluto must be feeling when that happened.. in my defence, I felt way bad for Pluto when this happened, it was my fav. of all the 9 planets (yes including earth), a bunch of ppl decided to throw him out and the whole world didn't threw a fit, not fought for it, and just let it be... Confession time: Although I've been ARMY since 2016 & have listened to this song plenty of times, I've never took the time to look up the lyrics. My mind is absolutely BLOWN right now! So we've both went through the same amazing discovery around the same time Captn! My mind is as blown as yours is, if not more. Come to think about it, I feel ashamed that I just now learned the meaning of this song. Wow!!..that's the only thing I can say at this point!!

I laughed so hard at you being thrown off by the jazz flute 🤣 It’s ok, drunk flute I guess is not for everyone. Suga and J-hope rapping can often be very similar and it doesn’t help that they frequently mirror each other. What helps me is Suga has the tiniest lisp and he says his name a lot before his part. J-Hope’s voice is slightly more gritty.
I appreciate your honesty I prefer someone to say exactly how they feel than fake it to make a good video. With that said when I first heard this song it didn't grab me like others have. I will listen to it if it comes on but I won't go and choose to play it. But if you wanted you should check out a live performance of this song whether its in a video or on your own. It's a lot deeper than I expected. Cool reaction tho even if it isn't one for me :)
2:24 @Roscoe Why the flute player gotta be drunk tho?💜💜 My brother plays jazz fusion so I am used to hearing flute. You are toooo funny 💜My 19yo daughter loves 134340 and was waiting for you to get to it
NASA added 3 BTS songs to their playlist for the next moon voyage scheduled for 2024. Namjoon's Moonchild, 134340 and Mikrokosmos 💜
Yep, and talk about mind blown. 🤯
It's like thee ultimate FLEX. 🤘😎🤘
I can vouch for that Nasa tweeted it
Excellent fact. Thank you!
For me the production is every bit as genius as the lyrics - the sense of ‘space’, the in-and-out aspect of the vocals as the heavenly body orbits, that flute dancing on the edges just wanting to be heard…
this exactly!
Yes, it's so dynamic, I love the production of this song.
This song has been in my top 5 BTS songs of all time since the first time I heard it several years ago. The live version is amazing.💜

it was the same for me 💜

Drunk flute 😂😂😂
Can’t lie; I love the flute. It gives me total beatnik vibes. Can’t help thinking of the song “Going Up The Country” by Canned Heat.

Only BTS will make a song about a planet and it's recategorization and link it to human relationships. 💜
Couldn’t agree more, Karla! 💜
The way I tell Suga and J-Hope apart when I’m not sure is this: if I’m not sure, it’s almost always JHope. When it’s Suga, I have no doubt.
Happened the same to me but I've never been able to put it into words. Perfect way of explaining it! 🤗
Yes! I have said almost those exact words!
I knew you would like the lyrics of this one :)
