- This video is about how to avoid "Ease Hell" aka doing too many cards! This will explain some of the reasons I have found people end up doing more cards than they actually need to do.

Each time I watch a single video of this channel I learn not only single but multiple tips & ideas.
Thank you so much!
Thank you! I hope it serves you well and that you crush your exams!
There's a word that describes your channel, and that's "underrated".
You've literally helped me a lot.
I'll definitely ask all my friends to subscribe to you!!
Keep up the dedication, AnKing!
Hello Anking,
You have a retention rate of near 100%. Don't you think we should aim to increase intervals to the point we get to around 80-90%? I've seen in other videos that above 90% correct rate means we are just doing too many repetitions and that in this case, it is better to increase the interval to keep more engaged and challenged while doing the reviews while actually doing less cards and saving time.
Thank you!
Vlad
Hey, I'd like to ask a question that differs a lot from what I learned in a completely different field from what I see in some of your videos.
Been doing Anki for a month, though I have a background in engineering/design and design analysis(design of parts and machines)/data analysis(related to maintenance of the production line and its output). Regarding the distribution of the "Again", "hard", "good" and "easy" presses. Shouldn't it be a good thing that you have your presses well distributed among "hard", "good" and "easy"? Because if almost everything that isn't "Again" is "good", what's the point of the other 2 intervals? Shouldn't you rather change "hard" and "easy" to something closer to "good" so that they can serve their purpose instead of being almost always ditched because "good" is the closest one to the interval you judge best?
i have a language deck (public shared) that has about 1000 cards, some of the words I already know, but most are new. it's got to the point that 95% of the new words i don't rememeber and have ended up being sent back to again and i'm learning nothing. I go through words i have rejected and reschedule them to today then marking them good - but 20 minute later i usually foregt again.
for language learning, i recommend for short term:
use physical flash cards.
Stick with small groups of cards, 3-7 in a deck, and try to knock those groups out in a day. for the first few days to week, review each 'young' deck 3 times a day, morning and again twice. Once you've pushed it to medium-term memory, then rely on anki's algorithm for long term reviews
God damn I feel so stupid for not looking into this! This was EXTREMELY helpful, thank you so much!!!
25 mins/1440 mins is a little difficult, by the time 25 mins pass I've forgotten the card. Are the default values 1m/10m not ideal? Is there a good intermediate level you'veused?
I thought the same at first, but is better in 25 mins settings because you actually learn the card and no just memorizing the answer in short term
Great video. How can I set it to just give me the cards I've marked as "hard"?
can someone link me to a video that shows me how to transfer some cards from one day to another so I don't have 3000 cards on one day and 150 for example on another? i skipped my reviews for a while so I have like 5000 cards due in a week and only 150 per day for this week so i'd like to slowly start doing from the 5000 cards (not sure if I made my point clear). thank you in advance.
Hi,
I'm beginner to use AnKi & tried yo create some decks however i messed up with 🙆 dis stuuf..would u suggest me the which playlist i need to reffer for creating flash card??
I wonder what you think about the auto ease factor addon
Hi dude, i want to know your opinion about this
1) 1min-10min-40min-4hours
2) 1day
3) 3days
Starting ease 230%
so after the easy interval it's going to be 7 days. Is it good for learning words, let me know what you think
It's hard to say how your study needs will best be met, especially for learning vocabulary. I would study with those settings for 2 weeks and ask yourself if cards are appearing more often than needed or appearing less than you need. What you provided is probably an adequate starting place, however we might suggest greater intervals under number 1) and focus on learning the card very well the first time so you can push it out and graduate it sooner.
If you set your intervals as 25 and 1440, doesn't that mean you forget a lot more often, since you're seeing the card only once (assuming you hit good) before as opposed to seeing it twice, on the same day?
Don't know if I'm being clear haha
No because I just hit again if I want to see a card twice the first day which happens frequently
@@AnKingMed Ah I see. btw, are you continuously doing cards during the 25 minutes? I'm asking because I tried setting it at 25 minutes too, but by the time the same card came around, i had done around 100-200 other cards, and found it difficult to remember that card. And I ended up forgetting it over and over again lol. Does that happen to you at all?
@@deepdark795 Yeah happens all the time! But for me the true test of if I have actually learned the card well or not is if I can remember it after an extended period of time?
@@AnKingMed haha I guess that's right too! Do you use 25 1440 for all your studying?
@@deepdark795 Almost everything! I have a chinese deck that I use 25 25 1440
Since I started to study with anki, I didn't know about the ease of the cards and I just kept pressing the easy button, not on the spacebar for "good". I noticed that I could do way too many cards a day that at the end of the week, they would just not be there, as they would get further and further away from the day I opened them. Should I just reset the ease on all my cards in this scenario?
If I were you I would reset the ease and use it more conservatively
@@jacobking2864 thank you so much for the answer, Jacob! I’ll try to reset the ease of all my cards. Should I reset for 250% all of them? After that, I’ll use the spacebar Instead of the easy button
Btw, I just saw my stats and my average ease is on 271% and I have 90,80% correct on my mature cards. Is it bad?
@@mateusgauza5710 No, that's good. You should keep doing what you've been doing.
@@VioletVal529 thanks a lot!
Hey love your videos!
I am considering resetting the ease on all my cards as I feel I might be in ease hell but I'm pretty far into my deck; will resetting the ease also reset the intervals of the cards meaning I'd essentially be starting over on them? Because I feel like that might be counter productive! I think I'm just having trouble understanding exactly how ease plays in especially when reset!
Did you end up doing it? What happened?
Why does your Anki not have a Hard button?
That was probably before the V2 scheduler
Hey Anking, I was wondering if you approve of the current way that I have been handling my leeched cards. So I would set the leech threshold to 4, then when a leeched card comes up I would:
1. first determine whether I wanted to keep or delete the card
2. If I did want to keep the card, I would review the info and reformat the information to make it easier to answer
3. Then I would reset the card in the browser (mostly because I want to reset the Ease, but the interval gets reset also). Unless there is a way to just reset the Ease ONLY in the browser.
Do you think this is an effective way to handle leeches and avoid ease hell? Btw, I have been using your recommended settings and I have been really liking it.
This sounds like a good plan. With step 1 I wouldn't delete a card if its actually important information, but the rest of your plan sounds really good
sorry,
i can't understand
what is the usage ??
and what is the benefit ??
please anyone reply
The purpose is to save time and maximise efficiency/productivity
Hey guys! I'm kinda new to the habit of doing anki daily and I'd like to know if i've been doing it correctly, but I still don't know how to interpret the stats. Could you please help me undestand if i'm doing ok and where I need to work on in order to improve my anki performance? The following are my stats:
Days Studied: 31/31 (100%)
Answer Buttons: Learning 77,55% | Young 91,48% | Mature 93,45%
Average Ease: 263%
Average Reviews/day: 420
Thank you!
I downloaded see card info: Which hot keys do I press so the info comes up?
But why is there this ease factor staying the same after graduating anyway¿ Shouldn't that adapt according to how well you answer a card later on as well¿
@The AnKing Thanks for the quick answer. Guess, if it starts to get annoying, I'll have to use the possibilities to reset the ease factor. I've set the days to graduate on 4-6 and have added steps for new cards at 1 and 3 days. I'm new to Anki and try to figure out what works best for me. Your videos are a great help!
In your unofficial research, why does the average for days studied between person 1 (311) and 2 (621) for average for days studied differ so much if they pretty much have the same settings/stats?
I'm honestly not 100% positive.. there are other factors that I didn't ask about and its possible that they entered their data incorrectly
Hey, I've just started using anki and I have almost 3k cards in this deck. I have an average of 256% ease, but a 76% learning percentage and 85.6% young percentage. I've been studying for about a week straight. That's out of 451 cards so far. Do you possibly know what I can do to change my learning percentage? I heard 80-90 was the sweet spot so I'm a bit behind and I have no idea what to do.
80-90 for your mature learning percent. You’re on the right track
So if I’m learning a new card I can click hard or the middle one As many times as I want without it affecting the numbers. But once it’s graduated and I am out of the learning stage, that’s where the numbers start getting affected correct.?
Correct!
How did you get created and ease columns in your browser at 2:54?
corbin luster right click on the top bar and you get options to make new columns
How to make subtags ? that will really help me out !!
Check out our playlist on Anki Basics! Subtags are made by formatting it like tag::subtag
Is there a reason you do not recommend moving your cards around?
Yeah it makes updating in the future much easier. It also keeps all your cards in a logical order so you can easily find related cards
Isn’t the target 80-90% correct on mature cards?
Depends on what you want your retention to be I guess? Takes more work to get your retention to 90%+, but if you’re like me and want a killer step score, you just put in the extra work :)
The AnKing but if your just clicking reschedule for a week or bury till the next day if you missed it or didn’t remember it your retention isn’t really that high... Right?
Yes and no. If I truly forgot it, I hit again. I only use bury and reschedule if I knew the idea, but read the card too fast or something. You have to trust yourself on how much you know the material
The AnKing that makes a lot more sense thank you!
Can pls you post the add on for resetting the ease?
And the short cut for seeing ease in reviewer. Thanks
@@user-nr3xi1xc6z added to the description!
Do you recommend me doing anki for a levels
im doing it right now with biology, chemistry and economics. Has it worked for you? idk how to manage studying so many cards and still making new one
@@iprefernottospeak1247 I do for physics business and engineering I'm not sure how much it helps but it's defo better than nothing
Could you share the name of the plugin for Browse cards?
Not sure which one you’re wanting. I have multiple add-ons (around 30..). Check our playlists- I’ve got a video on every add on I use
Or you could just press easy whenever a card is easy.
I'm still confused as to what the ease % is. Also, does the 1440 minute setting you have mean that the first time you hit good on a card, it will not been shown until a day later?
ease % is basically what the current interval of the card is multiplied by every time. So if you have a card at 10 days and you hit good (with 250% ease), then the next interval will be 10 days * 250% = 25 days. And yes the 1440 means the first time you hit good it will go to the next day. So I usually just hit again multiple times and then hit good
@@AnKingMed Thanks, also, could you clarify again how your cards get a 'bad ease'? I thought that setting is always at a fixed value to what you set it to. Thanka.
@@viobru3303 the ease of a card is changed each time you respond to that card. Again and hard decrease the ease of a card, while good maintains the ease, and easy increases the ease of the card.
entendi porra nenhuma
