What surprises me the most is that so many parents have not passed this music down in their households as it is a critical part of Black culture. My children were immersed in the funk since infanthood. As such, their children hear music this played in their homes. It blesses me to know that my grandbabies will carry the funk forward.

Oh, you have to listen to the album P Funk Earth tour! It's the live version of this and it. Is. SO. TIGHT! They have Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley from James Brown's band on sax and trombone. George Clinton actually lands on stage in a spaceship, summoned by the achingly soulful entreaties of Glen Goins. If you like the sound of George's voice, you'll love Dr Funkenstein. Free your mind and your ass will follow...
Clinton said his concept of the Mothership was inspired by the Beatles' Yellow Submarine. He said they were underwater, so we'll send brothers to space. This song was fire at concerts. You have to see the live version. You think the outro was good on ths album the live version is insane. Watch the video. Now that's Glen Goins (rip)doing the soulful singing and he's at his best as he calls down the Mothership! We lost our minds as it landed. 😂😂😂
@kennethsmith6367 the roots of funk came from aga m Augusta GA, James brown is the influence of pfunk. Listen to whenever they say "it's on the one" then listen to James brown says "everything is on the one."
The video of this classic "SWING DOWN SWEET CHARIOT" sung by The Legendary Glenn Goins in Oakland. Is a classic footage that everyone who ever witnessed a "LANDING OF THE MOTHERSHIP" concert in the 70's cherish to this day. Ironically in the early 1980's the Spaceship props mysteriously disappeared. The stage prop was found in a Salvage yard in Clinton, Md. in 2005. Donations from fans had it restored and is reportedly at the SMITHSONIAN in Washington, D.C.
I picked up a P-Funk greatest hits album about a decade and a half ago and was so immediately enthralled that I pledged to listen to as many of their albums as I could get my hands on. Hope you follow through with this one! They're an incredible band, with a ton of range. After this, One Nation Under a Groove, The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein, Motor Booty Affair, and Standing On the Verge of Getting It On are all great records to continue your journey.
This Album launched Parliament into the atmosphere and as the leading group of the P-Funk thang. you had Funkadelic Bootsy's Rubber band The Brides of Funkenstein Parlet Alias the MOB. The 70's ya had to of been there.
You got that right, I was there Madison Square Garden 77 P-FUNK Earth Tour. The landing of the Mothership. Plainfield NJ home of the P-FUNK, The Bomb. 🤘🏿
My personal favorite album of all George Clinton's productions. Nice to see you digging this joint. Played the grooves out of the vinyl and this is a beast of a groove. Will look for your other Parliament/Funkadelic music. Check out The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein album. Nice music, nice reaction. I'm wit'it.
Oh, you need to see the video of them doing this live in Houston. The bring the mothership in _for real_ - some of the best concert special effects ever.
If you get a chance, go see George Clinton live with the P-Funk All Stars. It’s been about a decade since I last saw them play, and they brought the funk for hours. The band played at least 90 minutes before George even came on stage. Then they played another three hours
My artist friend still has the T-shirt iron on figure on the cover that came inside the album. He introduced me to this group of funk ups. Spent some time bumping on the dance floor, a way to meet some of the prettiest girls in the club.
High concept and low down funk. Be sure to check out some live P-Funk on video from back in the day if you want to really get a feel for what GC, Bootsy, Bernie and the rest were all about.
This is so much the trip music of my youth! The funk of Parliament, the spaciness of Todd Rundgren, the operatic excess of Meatloaf, all swooping and diving in a Seventies summertime groove.
"Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip and come on up to the Mothership'. I reckon you'd like Funkadelic as well especially the early stuff, acid drenched rock mixed with funk. Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow is the perfect track to demonstrate this, Eddie Hazel playing on it is superb, to my mind what true pyschedelic guitar sounds like. Maggot Brain gets all the plaudits, (deservedly so), but Eddie's playing on Free Your Mind blows my mind.
@@CAdams6398 btw, I just remembered to mention that I have two NWOBHM compilations on my channel, they may be of interest if you've not heard therm yet. \m/ \m/ 🙃
Check out Sweet Sticky Thing or Body Vibes by Ohio Players , Funk Stuff by Kool and the Gang, Coming round the mountain Funkadelic just to name a few. Always love your reactions to all the prog and Bowie but funk too!!!! 😎...awesome!!
I like Parliament but I love Funkadelic. Toward the late '70s the two groups became more blended. But in the early '70s Funkadelic was very different. I love the mythology George Clinton created. That mythology reminds me of Daevid Allen and Gong. For an album listen, definitely put Funkadelic "America Eats Its Young" on your schedule. No other album like it in their catalog.
Hey JP I'm just wondering if you plan on getting back to reacting to Parliament's hornless more rock based alter ego *Funkadelic* anytime soon ? You started listening to the "Maggot Brain' album awhile back.
This doesn't resonate with me, both for the spoken vocals or that rudimentary repetitive funk. I'm not into P-funk at all. I'm more driven by the Philadelphia sound from the same period.

Owned all of their albums. Gave them to my son.

This blew my Midwest mind as a young man. Such a fantastic album.
It’s a Midwest band! The very foundation of hip hop is music from the Midwest!

The phrase "If you hear any noise, it just me and the boys" originally came from James Brown's 🎶Get It Together, pt. 2🎶🎧😊
Oooooh, thank you. Being stuck in the "funky 70's" is where everyone should want to be.
What a wonderful time for music....& me.

One of my favorite jams on my all-time favorite albums. Keep Funkin!!!!!!!!!!
Let it all rip!!! If you don't complete the 'trip', you'll never reach 'Planet Hip'! "DO NOT DISEMBARK THE MOTHERSHIP'! Peace, Love, & Funk.
I'm more of a Funkadelic man myself, but there's no denying how great the Parliament albums in the 70s were.
Yes sir, same musicians and different sounds! Let’s Take to the Stage! ❤
Funkadelic was work. Parliament was fun. Parliament is for casual listeners.
The mothership4 about to jamming on your 📻 wow
Check out their follow up LP The Clones od Dr, Funkenstein. Great compositions & vocals.

It's amazing that the younger generation just now fukin to parliament funk!!!
The funk is always nasty 💯🔥🔥🔥
Dr. Dre sampled this on his huge hit song “Let Me Ride”. Great track in its own right.
Ahh now I hear it
Do the whole album my man ! ( it's the P-Funk , The Bomb ! )
This song is unbelievable! ❤️❤️❤️
The whole is so great the breK downs wowed
More funky ass drums from Gary "Mudbone" Cooper on this one.

Just a GUMBO of funk!!
You should check out the concert version
Still got the original vinyl 😊
Nice Steven!
❤️ the horns. Mix in the funky bass and the infectious groove and you have a recipe for deliciousness. 😋
The Brecker brothers are among the horn players on this I think, they would be another great group to check out!
I consider myself to be a diehard Genesis FANatic, but my first love was Parliament. So glad that you discovered these guys! 👍🏾😎
Genesis and P-Funk, at long last - my musical twin!

Eddie Hazel never got the recognition he deserved.
Myself and a friend bought Funkentelechy and Mothership respectively. I always felt that he got the better deal, love this album.
The tune had my foot tapping.
This is the blueprint of P-Funk JP George Clinton up front Bernie Worrell on the keyboards the funkiest horn section ever those vocals! True funk!❤
James brown's old horn section

Yes precisely! Lol :)
Funk me to death!!!
Do yourself a favor and listen to
Parliament's Do That Stuff 🤘🏿
(A very late comment.)
Hey, be careful guy!
Keep messing with the "Funk" and you gon' need therapy! ✌️😎
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNK 😎

@@Kickinthescience No more G-Funk than P-Funk. I only like soul and funk from the 60s & 70s (and very early 80s).
U need the Funk!
! But the Philly sounds is a good choice
Parliament is more of a show pleaser for casuals. Funkadelic hits way harder and is more cerebral.
