Damn, one step away from 10k. Congrats
Ahh thank you 🙏 for being here for so long!!!
Thanks so much this is soso useful because I am an equestrian athlete myself but don't know there is something like "division1" before... This year Stanford became so far away from me for my GPA is not that ideal. But now it feels like my dream could actually come true. Thanks so much! and other videos are also really inspiring!! I want to make my comic book this summer!
so any update i am also equistrain
10k, only a heartbeat away, congrats Iris!! When Amanda mentioned UCLA, two of my fav gymnasts that were at the Karolyi Ranch the same time I was, were Katelyn Ohashi (was considered Simone Biles main competition) and Kyla Ross (Olympic gold medalist, bar specialist) compete there. I think Ohashi left end of last year. Amanda is right, UCLA gymnastics is at an insane level, makes Stanford look like Yale's team :). Watch Katelyn's perfect 10 floor routine and just about any Kyla bar routine, you'll be amazed. I did want to add that even though there is not a scholarship at D III, like w/ Hopkins, they do make other ways of helping financially available to you, just not an actual scholarship. And, the team has restrictions on how much time they are required to practice on the team. Sports interest from the coach, if you're good, can help push you over the selection process as long as you meet the other qualifications. Gymnastics is a bit different than soccer (my new sport), most of what she said still applies, but we have National College Showcases, like Surf Cup and Players Cup in Vegas with the top teams in the nation. Gymnastics also has International Elite and Elite, where soccer has ECNL and development academies (DA). Lots of college coaches attend these tourneys and their contact info is on the tournament site. You can email them your playing schedule and other info so they can come watch you, even if they can't talk to you directly. At the big tournaments toward the top teams, you'll see several coaches on the sidelines taking notes. Recruitment videos are a big thing in soccer, but gymnastics is such a small world, I don't think it has the same level of importance. For the gymnastics world, performance at nationals, big events like the Secret Classic, will help get you attention. Just a side note, the Air Force Academy loves gymnasts for their physical abilities, they always have a presence at major tourneys in Colorado. My hope, unlike Amanda's, is not to play at a top college level, but let it help me in the admission process. We'll see :).
Wow thanks for sharing these amazing insights on the college athletics world! I didn't know a lot of that and it's all very interesting. Good luck with recruiting and I'm rooting for you on Hopkins!!
Amanda do you think you can share the template of the email you sent to your coach?
Wow last time I watched there were 7k congrats iris.
ahaha we're growing!! thanks for watching and i hope you're finding the content helpful and enjoyable!

1.Can you make a video on how to get predicted grades this year as exams are not being held?
2. Also, what all should be included in an external recommendation letter?
3. Can you go through my common app essay once ?
yes ivies are a disadvantage if you're a recruited athlete and your income is considerably high (160,000+ or so) because ivies can only give need-based scholarships, so that is their only form of financial aid,
yeah :/
Can you make a video on how to write a good "brag sheet" to give to teachers for a letter of recommendation?
ooo yes! thanks for the idea
Love u
❤️
Can you make a video on how international students (students currently studying in other countries) could still get accepted to Stanford or any other universities even if there are little extracurriculars or classes that they can take at their school?
Hi! I think intl students should focus on independent projects. I give 5 examples of these in the top 5 extracurriculars during quarentine video!
Can you make a video about original research projects (not internships), and maybe you know someone who’s done isef or sts and can interview them like in this video?
ooo yeah that's a great idea! Thx for the suggestion
Hi! new subscriber here from the Philippines.
Hi Iris, you are amazing. Is there a video about recruited musicians
How did the application process for you as a student athlete work for you in regard to treating you any differently? I play baseball and Stanford is my dream school and I’ve always kinda been told by people that athletes get treated differently, not as high of expectations academically and so on. I’m not the best student, but Stanford is my dream school and I was wondering if it was any different for you as an athlete, or do I pretty much have to have perfect GPA, SAT, and ACT to get in because on academics alone I stand no chance getting in.
Could you share your study life in Stanford University with us ?Thanks a lot!
When you write the first email to them.what should the first email be about
Can you make a video about the athlete admission process with this pandemic and what can we write to a coach in the first time .ps :thanks for your videos the're very helpful
Will ask Amanda - I’d recommend reaching out to her over insta as well to ask this!
@@irisfu6929 amanda didn't accept me so i can ask her, can you do it for me
the volume is too low. very informative, though. thank you.
Great info! Would love to collaborate and have you provide some info into my eLearning course! Love the value you're providing!
Hey! Congrats on getting into Stanford! I live in Canada and I REALLY want to get into Stanford as a soccer player. Im in grade eight at the moment and I was wondering if you know where you currently live would affect your application chances? Also, do you have to be academically advanced to get INTO Stanford, or just have passing grades? Last question. Since you have to get into Stanford as a normal student and then become an athletic student, does Stanford have to know your athletic ability before applying since you would probably mention you play a sport in your application? Thanks!! ( is it hard to get in??)
Im in canada and i know some who got in. Go to a really, really good high school, one that sends kids to top US unis ever year. Take a couple AP classes,Then try to do something thats very unique that gives you a good story. Eg invent something and raise money for it on kickstarter, Its definitely harder from canada though, but if you are a top athlete then you dhould be fine
Hi Iris, I am just writing this comment to say that I am so proud how far you’ve came. I am also putting thoughts into this comment since I have a question, if you don’t mind! The question is as follows: What can an international student do if his country and school do not have many choices when it comes to these extracurriculars? Also, should a student mention the situation of his country and entourage while applying? - Love and support from Morocco 🇲🇦
Hi! Thanks for this comment. You can do a lot of independent projects - check out the top 5 extracurriculars videos for some ideas! Second, you should def mention your home situation to provide helpful context to admissions. Good luck and thanks for all your support!
Iris Fu Thank you and best of luck to whatever it is that you have planned next in your life!!
A bit off-topic sorry, I'm currently a high school senior and I was wondering how I'd do in admissions because I haven't really taken any AP courses before and now I'm taking 4. Would they help with admission or is it too late for them to count to admission officers?
Always better late than never! Usually, the most heavy loads for students academicallly are in junior and senior year, so this is completely fine and expected. Do you best in them and you can show AOs a “growth trajectory” in academics, which is a very good thing
On the calls what do y’all talk about?
Hi! i commented on your video we talked on last time.. and i wanted to ask you one more question regarding ACT reading, how did u manage to improve time management. I’m taking this online course and he said to start with passage and read word for word (which i didn’t do on SAT reading and i finished) then do easy questions and skip when needed but finish a passage then move on. I’ve tried it but i still don’t finish in time, and i read pretty fast. I’m guessing it’s cuz two passages are hard for me and the other two are easy. And if i take time usually i get most of questions right. So like how did u overcome that ?
Hmmm I think honestly there’s no way around this other than practice practice practice. I did SO many practice tests and my score would vary sitting by sitting, but usually the average would start going up with practice. I’d say take a few reading practice tests just in a row - like 5 reading tests in a row! That’ll help you get better at speed. Good luck!!
Iris Fu ok thanks ! and for ACT english i heard it tests the same rules each time so like i guess everytime u take a practice tests you should be able to grasp the new rules ? I mean there is new passages and off questions it’s only the rules that don’t change but still you gatta know how to apply because each question is diff right ?
Can international students get into college football teams even if they have not played in highschool but are as compititive as those who have played in highschool?plz can you tell
im sorry, i left a similar comment to this on a video from a few weeks ago and then realized that it’s probably a better idea to ask on a more recent video, but i have a question about your blog, actually. I was wondering if you used a host website or if you managed to make it on your own. I’m trying to start something with a group of friends and i’m trying to figure out the best way to go about making a website similar to yours: bloggy, but with a newsletter. Sorry if this is annoying or irrelevant 🙇🏻♀️💖💕
Hi! It’s a great question and I struggled with this too! I ended up going with Bluehost as the hosting provider and Wordpress.org (not .com) as the content management system. I chose this mainly bc it’s cheaper than wix, webflow, and other options. I’m literally only paying for the domain ($10/yr) and hosting ($3/month). I hope this helps and good luck with your blog!
Hi Iris, can you make a video on how to successfully pass AP classes? I’m an introvert and my teacher is expecting us to participate in class discussions and etc. i want to know how to get out of my comfort zone and pass classes successfully. Thank youu.
Oof that is scary!! I’m also quite introverted believe it or not (lmao idk how I’m doing UA-cam) and I used to be so scared of participating in discussions. I think there’s no better way to overcome that other than to raise your hand, get scared, and realize it’s not all that bad. Do that 100 times and you’ll become very active in class discussions! I also recommend setting “challenges” (ie raising hand at least 5 times and speaking up in a discussion at least once per class). Good luck!!
Iris Fu thank you so much!! This really helps and I love all of your videos!!
how do they no if your in junior year or not?
Hi Iris! How do you get your jobs as an online tutor? I'm a rising high school senior and I would love to earn some money tutoring. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Love your videos!!
I got it through a connection but many tutoring places have applications posted on their website! I'd look into those!! good luck!
and i wanted to know for extracurricular does it have to be things you did in high school ? like i did piano before not in high school. And now i’ve do chinese class but probs not anymore due to junior year will be tight for me, swim (stopped due to covid), piano (quit long time beofre), volleyball (in middle school) And i think that’s all. Can i put all these for the extracurricular activities ?
if you join the swim team you could put it in the extracurricular activities i think. you should include the activities you are continuing still :)
You can put them if you’re continuing them in HS, but not if you stopped before HS - we can talk more in our next call as well!
Iris Fu oh ok i thought you can put any activites you did before
Iris Fu does it matter if i don’t put the ones continuing in high school, because i’m not sure due to covid please let me know thank you
HI Iris, I am sorry if i asked you this question again, but I am wondering how being the leader of your debate team can relate to writing a book about down syndrome. Thanks. Also it is ok if you don't really have a spike. Is it necessary to have one? Congrats for hitting 9K!!
Hey Helen! It's by no means necessary to have a spike, though it can make your application easier to read and understand. I think you can connect the debate skills you've gained (ie looking at an issue from two sides) to issues revolving down syndrome. You can present pros and cons to policies that can help those with down syndrome, etc. hope this helps and good luck!
Hey Iris. As my main extracurricular, I’m thinking of creating an organization that is dedicated to teaching English to people who aren’t fluent. Because I’m from Turkey, I decided that I would teach Turkish people English. And to prove my extracurricular, I will create a website where people can sign up. Since not a lot of studnets do this in America, do you think its a good extracurricular to stand out to colleges?
Hey I think that's great! I think it will help you stand out, but ultimately, you'll have to show that you have a genuine drive and motivation for doing this in your essays. Otherwise, it can come off as fake or " i did it just to get into college"
Iris Fu yes I understand. Also do you think the website is enough for me to prove that I’m working on this extracurricular. Like what if the admissions officers say “oh he probably didn’t even teach them anything, or he probably signed up as himself”. Then what should I do?
Hello Iris , thank you so much for the video I loved it !! Btw I'm an junior student coming from a different country (Morocco ) so we don't really have the same things concerning GPA's , and we don't pass AP'S can you please request something !!
I think you can self study for the exams and go to a test center to take them! I know someone who lived 6 hours away from a test center but he self studied and took the exams! he's in my stanford class :) hope this helps
@@irisfu6929 Thank you so much much love for you
@@ambitiousgirlwithglasses153 good luck!!!
I was wondering when I watched one of your videos do you have to right the book about what you are studying?
no you don't have to write about what you're studying
Iris Fu how much pages would you say is okay?
Did you graduate highschool early? If so, what age?
I did not, although I was planning to. If so, I would've been 17
Who’s the co-host? Really appreciate this resource so I can help others
Amanda! Her socials are in the description too if you want to reach out :)
Iris Fu Thanks
Hi Iris! I remember you talking about how you applied to college as a junior. Do you mind sharing how you did that and what you had to do to get it approved by your school? Thanks!
There was no special process - I just submitted apps like I would as a senior!
@@irisfu6929 I see thanks!
Hi iris! I just got financial aid for some MOCS (coursera)certificates(psychology and neuroscience and another about both), can you give my your opinion about this type of extracurriculars please
Hey that's great! Congrats. I think it will def show your initiative and drive to learn outside the classroom. Although it won't be a huge "standout" factor bc many people are doing it -- but def a good thing to do esp for your own curisoities!!!
Iris Fu yeahh thank you! Its definitely so interesting and i am learning a bunch of things that they dont reach at class

What about the estimate fees a student had to pay on the first year including in house fees for computers. I dont want like an exact one .an approximation could really help.and congrats on your 9k subscribers.atrust me, you will be sensational on UA-cam
i think that is included. It usually is in financial aid.
