From a Mexican American point of view, Time Bandits is so unique, entertaining and exotic because it is so British. The trailer is about as British as a box of frozen fish and chips, no flavor, bland, and leaves a bad after taste.

Agree with you 100%, after seeing the trailer a day ago. The original and ONLY "Time Bandits" movie is an all time classic, but as seems to be the case these days, someone has decided they can do just as good, if not a better job of re-making it. Are you kidding me ! Do these people not have an original creative idea in their heads? What has happened to story writing, to creativity. Instead we are bombarded with these second-rate, humourless contrivances, with odious characters and that empty feeling you're left with if you chance a viewing of this rehashed fodder. Lol, I needed that ! Anyway, suffice to say I will not be watching this nonsense either. I have seen a few remakes of some of my favourite classics and been annoyed every time at the pointlessness of it all. Watch the originals people and forget the crappy remakes. Thankyou for allowing me to vent. Needless to say, I enjoyed this upload.🙂 Oh and good on Terry Gilliam !👍

  • @donkarnage6032
    @donkarnage6032 5 місяців тому +5

Agreed. The current amount of remakes and sequels are getting ridiculous and tiresome. Hollywood has always done remakes or re-tellings over and over again. I think the problem is money and technology. There aren't really any barriers to what can be done anymore as far as computer effects. I feel it's taken a step back when it comes to practical effects. It's kind of sad that a movie that came out in 1982, The Thing, will probably never be surpassed in practical effects. The Thing was a lower budget movie. The Thing is also a remake of an older movie. Remakes can be done well. The money and technology just seem to sap creativity because there are fewer barriers the film makers have to overcome. This also leads to a lot of newer remakes/sequels lacking the character of the originals.

I agree it is awful, however if you have never seen the original you might like it. I have noticed that people today when viewing a remake of some iconic film/tv show from the past tend to hail them as "unique" and "groundbreaking" as if the original doesn't exist or was somehow just waiting to be remade in order to make it so. I am particularly thinking of BBC America's sacreligious take on Sir Terry Pratchett's wonderful Watch series from the Discworld books. His books had always been hailed across the world for their diversity as well as their astuteness and fun but BBC America had to remould all of the characters and twist the stories to fit into what they thought diversity should look like. It was a travesty. I don't think I will ever forgive them for it. xxx

After more than a century of cinema, over 70 years of TV and over a decade of intense production for streaming there are few stories left, that have not been told in one way or another.
Considering the frantic pace new productions are pumped out for Neflix, Hulu, Paramount, Disney, HBO, Amazon, Apple, TV Stations etc., I guess it s inevitable that producers scan old productions for material that can be remade.

The problem is streaming. Yes, in a simplistic way, money simply chases the avenue of the balance of risk vs reward. However with streaming you loose out on a few important factors the audience to matter....
      1) audience does not pay for individual show / movie
      2) audience that does not pay for the streaming subscription (kids etc)
      3) the visibility of projects mattering more than how many view it... the streaming brand matters more than individual project - this promotes fan baiting among other things

Oh man, this is such a typical 'in the past everything was better' opinion. Im just saying, if you dont wanna watch it, dont watch it, but maybe be just thankful that these stories are remade for modern audiances. Is ist made for you? Probably not. Is ist better than the original? Surely not in your opinion.
When i first saw The Thing, im sure there were people saying, well, that looks crap, the good stuff is only the original from the 50ies. And when the 2000s film came out all the people who loved the 80ies version called the new film crap. But to be honest, I only watched the 50ies version bc i loved the 80ies version and lot of tenns might only have watched the 80ies version bc they loved the 2000s version.
Those remakes are not for you. They might try to speak to you, but never can recreate a childhood memory.
I just hate that reviewers often just dismiss the fact, that their favorite movie or show might be outdated for modern audiances. And even when it really is superior to the remake, remakes have a right to exist. All this BS about bad remakes really gets on my nerves. Do we have to watch em? No. Should we? Maybe, bc they might get ourself a new perspective to the story and a reflection of modern society. In my opinion its as important than watching old movies and shows just to get a picture how society was in that times. How movie making changed, how stuff was done back then and now.
People hate change, especially when its something they love, but EVERYTHING changes and nobody can stop it. The only thing you can do is get with the flow of change and try to enjoy and keep your nostalgia or just stay who you are, but be sure, you wont be the audiance new stuff is made for.

So this is where all the Disney dwarfs went after they replaced them with cgi. Seriously, it does look exactly like what Disney was trying to do with Snow White and this show should have been paying attention to the ridicule that garnered. I don't mind at all that they aren't actual dwarfs, but why does everyone keep trying to replace dwarfs with escapees from a hippy colony? It's rather insulting I'd say.

I saw this trailer and despised what they have done, and wondered how this got made. Then I realised that Taika Waititi was involved and that explains why it looks so bad (I HATED both of his Thor films, especially Love and Blunder) I won't watch this crap, but I will love watching UA-cam reviewers tearing this piece of rubbish to pieces.

Disgusting trailer. Lisa Kudrow? Really?! Using Roam from the B-52's? This is just so very terrible. Somehow this looks even worse than the upcoming Borderlands film.
Gladiator 2 uses a Jay Z song in it's new trailer. Marketing departments in the industry all need to be shuttered. Just horrible choices everywhere these days.

To be fair, when I write stories, usually medieval fantasy stories, I tend to listen to modern metal music. A lot of the creative juices behind stories are fueled by modern music, so I'm not surprised people would make the unwise decision to actually carry that music over into the theatrical productions.
And when Lisa was about to say her name I half expected her to say Regina Falange, that's the level of humor that was present in this trailer.

I expected more from apple tv. Stop giving taika waititi films to ruin. The original Time Bandits has some of the best visual effects that still stand up to this day, all using 1981 technology. Gilliam has always given us great visuals in his movies, like the depiction of medieval life in the movie Jabberwocky. so sad to see watiti butcher it.

Sadly, you'll have a bunch of curious idiots who will watch it and be like "Oh, cool!" and not appreciate the originals that the movies are sourced from. Plus, with all the Epstein files being leaked, I find it hard to favor Hollywood as the premium choice of entertainment. There are THOUSANDS of books that could easily be adapted into movies and Hollywood blatantly chooses not to adapt it because they would feel "it isn't profitable" and "doesn't interest ME (the executive decision-maker)." Here's a bit of advice... STOP SEEING THE REMAKES, STOP BUYING APPLE PRODUCTS, AND STOP SUPPORTING THE PEOPLE WHO APPROVE THESE TRAIN WRECKS. It *will* help you out.
