andrewewaters, you can hear entire phrases in Greek because Greek was the second language in Egypt at the time, much like English in Egypt today. However, this is in Greek; all the rest is in the Egyptian language, which is entirely unrelated to the Greek language. However, you may recognize a few words here in there because some words were imported from the Greeks, especially in church, much like the Latin roots in the English language.
Liturgical coptic has many Greek words, that's why you can recognize some among the chant. Greek was a very important language of Early Christianity, and also in Alexandria, center of Egyptian Christianity. Even in the West, Greek influenced the liturgical latin, and the Trisagion in Greek was also known and chanted.
نعم اخي لان اليونانية القديمة كانت اللغة الرسمية للعالم في ذالك الوقت وكانت مصر في هذا الوقت تحت الإحتلال البطلمي ثم الروماني والقبطي يكتب بحروف يوناني ما عدا سبع حروف
there are parralels...For example scientists can't say which language is the first, or they both came from one source and were developed different in different places. For example ancient bulgarian language and coptic have a lot in common ..but this is normal, like ancient greek philosophers were studing in Egypt....Bulgarians are inheritors of ancient thracians...Greek leanred from the thracians the Orphic Religion..etc
Are portions of this hymn being sung in Greek, or are their just strong parallels between liturgical Coptic and Greek. I am hearing things like "Holy God . . . Holy Immortal One, You were born of a virgin" (Hagios ho theos, hagios athanatos, ek parathenos egenetis) and the like.

Wonderful! Who made this recording? I've heard the verses of the cymbals with the same type of intro and all and I'd like to hear the collection :)

I know for a fact that the 'Trisagion' (the section with the repetitive 'agios') is in Greek.
