zenith and Magnavox always had great sound and made great changers as well this was when quality was on the mind of people who cared about their work and showed pride . everything today is throw away and it is a shame thank you for posting this great job
This particular changer was made by VM....1200 series. VM manufactured hundreds of thousands of changers during this era. The VM 1200 series was reliable, durable and easily serviced.
seeburgsrock Still have my mom's 1954 Zenith Malabar radio phono that I restored myself rebuilt the Zenith Cobramatic record changer and repaired the radio so now I have a teriffic radio and record player.
This really IS a good sounding player Atco! Assuming the weather holds out, I've seen this flea market run right into late November. They do have an indoor section as well. They're actually converted chicken coops and they heat them too. Let's pray for good weather & good hunting! We both scored last weekend & both of us went to a hamfest 2 weeks ago where we both got primarily electronic parts for rebuilding. Didn't see any record players at all & only a few wood radios there.
I have a New Version of the Klipsch 1946 USA 1960s stereo with Bluetooth.. also have the New Version of the Bush TR870 radio with Bluetooth....it is neat to 1950s 1960s and 1970s along with today in my Front room 😊
Won't be many more Sundays left before the outdoor flea market shuts down for the year. If the weather is good this Sunday, Chris & I will be back out combing for goodies. Chris had a couple of good hits this past Sunday as, of course, did I! This is a GREAT player!
I just bought one of these!!! It’s awesome,, gonna do a full restore... played it for a few minutes and the amp never came up to snuff... gotta get me some new caps and a new set of tubes... they look to be original,, and totally baked...it’s my first vm changer... it’s so smooth... can’t wait to get it up and running correctly.
I picked up one of these Zeniths (same model and same color scheme...and remarkably same condition) about a year ago. I haven't bothered to play it yet, waiting for the right time to replace the caps. After hearing the one playing the video, it may be time to get busy on getting mine operational.
It is indeed stereo compatible! This Zenith was made in 1958. At that time, stereo was in full swing. They HAD to make them stereo compatible players to be able to sell them. It tracks stereo records beautifully.
seeburgsrock have my mom's 1953 Zenith radio phono combo that I repaired the radio and am now working to get the record changer to work. Great video of your Zenith phono.
Thanx Rich! It's a terrific sounding & well built player. I think it's priced fairly and compared to the 4-speed RCA Orthophonic suitcase players, this is by far a better machine albeit not quite as attractive.
What a great video for my morning!! I was just playing my Zenith HF10!! They do have super sound. I think mine needs more work. I don't think its sounding to its full potential. But for now its nice.
I've been really wanting a player like this because I have a cheap Crosley record player. I really like this model in particular, I hope I can find one on eBay soon!
+Moonwalker917 They SELDOM go bad. Some people make a bigger deal of the selenium rectifiers than they should! If it ain't broke...don't fix it! I like to keep the electronics as close to original as possible.
One of the problem i have with my exact one is playing stacks of 45's with inconsistencies of record drops. I have to solve the problem rounding out the inner edge of the 45 records with file from blunt edge.
Oh man, you are killing me, Glen. I really can't buy another big tombstone, even a Philco. I'm just about to run out of wallspace (I'm sure you can relate). I just spent an hour moving things around to try to make some room for a 1932 RCA console I'm going to buy tomorrow, which I really need like another hole in the head. I appreciate the offer. Any of you guys from my channel, that see this comment, I promise you, if Glen says it's good, you can take it to the bank. Make him an offer.
I have the same machine. Do you know the replacement needle this uses as I need to find a new one. I need the flip needle for both LP and 78s. Thank you!
Hi Glen - really nice sound, I like it a lot! So possibly just one more weekend left for the flea markets this year? Can't wait to see what you guys might find. If weather still holds, my last hamfest in my area for the season is this weekend. If I'm lucky I'll have something to show ya. See ya -- Atco
Nice record player. This is the same exact record player that "kirbykallen" has. As you know, "kirbykallen" is not on UA-cam anymore, but I miss him so much, because his account got suspended about 2 years ago for copyright issues. I've seen his videos of all the songs played on his 1950's Zenith suitcase Hi-FI with the Cobramatic changer. But it plays all records including some 70's and 80's songs as well. It is compatible for playing stereo records.
Just picked one up an hour ago a model HF 10 along w a Arvin model #91 P 38 both are in good shape i just got them for the tube amps and speakers im making guitar amps out of them so if u want parts thanx Richard
Good morning Mickey! This player DID sell. I have another Zenith HF11F that I haven't restored yet. I plan to start the restoration next week if you have an interest. These are phenomenal sounding players - much nicer than the RCA counterparts. Condition is the same as this one.
have the same turntable, in a recent find i picked up. I'm clueless as to what cartridge to put in this thing? Can you tell what you are using and where I can find it to purchase?
Okay Glen, I have to know, did you get third party matches with those tunes? Really nice "portable". Very different and it's really a nice, quality player. You and Chris always come up big at those flea markets.
I didn't get any 3rd party matches....yet! I tried to play more obscure tunes so as not to get "dinged". People must realize these records are for demonstration - NOT the content! This is just a beautiful player. I'm glad to have scored it. BTW, I scored another item that may be of interest to you-a Philco #620 tombstone radio unmolested with a great case, original cord & tubes-NO delamination. Interested?
I found one of these in an alley, on top of a dumpster. It’s in really good physical condition, but it’s disassembled. Does anyone have a resource for schematics?
Hi Seeburgsrock, I've got the first record from this video running constantly through my head, and wondered if you could help me I.D. it. It's the first song which starts at about 4:50 . Do you recall the title and/or artist? Thanks!, - Bob
That's an amazing player, with real Zenith quality. Did the hydrostatic tweeters work? The reason I ask is because I've had maybe 6 Zeniths with those, and every one of them was DOA.
I'm trying hard to play more obscure music so as not to be "dinged" or suspended for copyright issues. People watching my videos must realize these players are being played for operational condition NOT the musical content! The copyright holders should be flattered their music is being played for exposure to them at -$0- compensation to the person playing the music. It SHOULD boost their music sales!
A very work of art! Congratulations to Zenith and Magnavox that both were magnificent companies!
I have this exact same color model. Paid $30 for it and $70 for repairs. Love it.
zenith and Magnavox always had great sound and made great changers as well this was when quality was on the mind of people who cared about their work and showed pride . everything today is throw away and it is a shame thank you for posting this great job
+tough213 True enough! The quality went in before the name went on...Zenith!
very true and no matter how hard the companies of today try they will never be able to come close to the quality of the past
Is it still4 sale?

Boy does that sound NICE......quality !!! Great work!
Awesome looking player. And thanks for the review, sir!
I love that pick up design - the two "eyes" are cute! Nice sound too.

REALLY nice score!

Hi. Do you know the exact needle replacement number? I have this model and need a needle. I don't have the user manual. Thank you.
You have the best luck!
I know Joe Bennett and The Sparkle Tones their big hit single was 'Black Slacks' in 1957 on ABC Paramount records.
I picked up one of these Zeniths (same model and same color scheme...and remarkably same condition) about a year ago. I haven't bothered to play it yet, waiting for the right time to replace the caps. After hearing the one playing the video, it may be time to get busy on getting mine operational.
This is a great green record player
That's a real wolf in sheep's clothing! Is the cart stereo compatible?
It's beautiful!! So clean!! Should sell fast!! Love it!!
This looks like something you would carry to a classroom so you can trun on the film and play a record for the film to have sound.
It is indeed stereo compatible! This Zenith was made in 1958. At that time, stereo was in full swing. They HAD to make them stereo compatible players to be able to sell them. It tracks stereo records beautifully.
Hope someone could add cables to plug onto a computer.
Nice to hear from you Raymond! Recapping & changing the cartridge can make a big difference. Time for you to do another "walkabout"!
seeburgsrock have my mom's 1953 Zenith radio phono combo that I repaired the radio and am now working to get the record changer to work. Great video of your Zenith phono.
It just slams the needle hella hard onto the groove LOL
Thanx Rich! It's a terrific sounding & well built player. I think it's priced fairly and compared to the 4-speed RCA Orthophonic suitcase players, this is by far a better machine albeit not quite as attractive.
this is sharp bring them back

Thanks for the feedback... :)
I love this front speaker design. I hope the selenium rectifier didn't give you too much trouble, these things are a pain to replace.

What a nice unit!!!
so wonderful as always....
Lucky you, I want one for my collection.
I. Almost forgot how good record sound
Great tone! I tried to find a stereo similar to this but eBay had some policy that required PayPal,
awesome as always and i love the color scheme!
One of the problem i have with my exact one is playing stacks of 45's with inconsistencies of record drops. I have to solve the problem rounding out the inner edge of the 45 records with file from blunt edge.
Hey Crosley look here this is what a REAL record player looks like and sounds like
PERFECT, GLEN!
BEAUTIFUL PLATO HAPPY

They DO work wonderfully! If you decide not to bother restoring it & to sell it, I'd be interested
I really like the Doo Pop sounds. I am on the fence between a zenith or magnavox suitcase player. I really like the sound of both. j~
ok thanks...my parents had that player when i was a kid
I have the same machine. Do you know the replacement needle this uses as I need to find a new one.
I need the flip needle for both LP and 78s. Thank you!
The tweeters are electrostatic my friend.

By 1969 you would of been a nerd if you had this for a record player.
Thanx Joe! You'd like this one too!

Does it have a 78 stylus as well?
Daniel Thomas, Yes it does have a 78 Stylus
what cartridge is in there?

You wouldn't happen to have a 1958 Columbia model 516 in gray and ivory would you??
No, sorry!
Hi Seeburgsrock, I've got the first record from this video running constantly through my head, and wondered if you could help me I.D. it. It's the first song which starts at about 4:50 . Do you recall the title and/or artist? Thanks!, - Bob
Sorry, never mind, I heard you announce the songs just before playing. Betty Johnson...
How many watts in this player?
wonder if the 1954 hifi was sold?
Yes, it's been sold.
I always thought a well maintained rca sounded several x better
