One of the best match performance by any football player in history. Each goal more amazing than the one before, and the drama at the 89th minute, and by such a goal. I remember watching this live, and the game getting very close to the end without a lot of action. I was pretty sure it's going to end at a 2:2 draw. And then he brings that goal from out of this world. I thought that I was dreaming. I couldn't believe that I just saw that happening. It looks like it came out of a movie. This is the 100th time I'm watching this, and I'm sure I'll be coming back for more.

I was born in 1988. In terms of players who have spanned and peaked in my time watching football, Rivaldo is the greatest player I've ever seen. Ronaldo (both of them), Messi, Kaka, Scholes, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Maldini, Nesta, Zanetti, Henry, Van Nistelrooy, Raul, Batistuta, Nedved etc were all fantastic, don't get me wrong. But this man just had something extra. He did things I've seen nobody else do, was a man for the big ocassion and carried that side at times. As I said, the best I've seen.

yeah, I agree that Rivaldo doesn't get credit enough. Let´s not forget that Valencia was a respectable team at that time. Just one year earlier (2000) they reached Champions League's final.

Quite possibly the best performance ever by Rivaldo, the best hat trick ever and the greatest overhead kick ever (especially if we take into account the pressure of the circumstance). Dude goes on to score an insane free kick from a loong way out with the perfect balance between power and technique, he then somehow scores an even better goal, an outrageous long shot from an almost stationary position that was so powerful that he fell after the shot and he then somehow finds a way to score an even better goal, an immaculate overhead kick moments before the end of the game and completes his hat trick. If that would have happened while playing FIFA i would return the game as too unrealistic.

Rivaldo was 29 or maybe 28 years old at that time. not that old, I agree, but he played for Barça since 1997. It was the beggining of the end. he could have played for barça for some 2 years more.

For me, my favourite player ever. He's not Messi/R7, but he defo is up there with the likes of Zidane, R9, Figo and so on. I don't really know why he's rarely appreciated as an all-time great. I can only assume his antics vs Turkey in the World Cup put everyone off of him, similar to how Neymar's constant play-acting has harmed his own reputation. But as a player, Rivaldo was genuinely an all-time great, even if most people don't really talk about him anymore.
This is the most amazing goal ever scored in my opinion, the sheer pressure of having to score, and doing it in this manner in the 89th minute is truly a remarkable achievement!!

This hat trick was so important. This was the final game of the season and Barcelona had a wretched season. Rivaldo and manager, Louis van Gaal were disagreeing about Rivaldo’s best position and the club was performing poorly. Van Gaal was sacked and then the next manager (Lorenzo Serra Ferrer) was sacked too. In this last game. Barca were 5th and needed to win to get into the Champions League and earn the qualification revenue. They were playing a very strong Valencia who had just lost their second successive champions league final. Rivaldo’s hat trick kept them in the UCL and kept the finances on track.
Before Neymar and Suarez, before Messi, before Ronaldinho, there was Rivaldo. 2 time Balon d’Or winner with Barcelona. Never forget his name.

btw, this hat trick is great! I believe Ronaldo did deserve a standing ovation for spotting the keeper mistakes and because he was a great player always, and always overcame obstacles like injuries.
