- As Mexico prepares for its next presidential election in June, the U.S. corporate-owned media is working overtime to smear the outgoing president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and his popular MORENA party. Kurt Hackbarth, writer and Journalist for Jacobin Magazine, explains that the media campaign against AMLO is retaliation for his efforts to wrest Mexico’s energy sector from the control of foreign corporations. “That’s one thing the U.S. has never pardoned - a country having control over its own energy, its own natural resources.” Despite the attacks, Hackbarth says the MORENA party continues to be favorable in the polls in the lead up to the election. Hackbarth is the host of ‘Soberanía: The Mexican Politics Podcast’.

For this reason, the Mexican media does not want the 4th transformation because they can no longer do their juicy business at the expense of the Mexican people.

@@mariaandrade7840 No se dónde vivas pero si vibes en EEUU,cuando vas al consulado a solicitar tu credencial de elector te dan un documento de comprobante con un número de telefono para verificar porque no te ha llegado tu credencial de elector,en ese documento hay un número de folio y con eso te pueden decur porque esta detenida tu credencial. Yo llame y me hacía falta un documento,lo envié de manera digital despues que me enviaron un correo electronico y con ello me enviaron mi credencial que ya recibí. Y si la recibes llama nuevamente al INETEL para registrarla y la única forma que puedes votar es de manera presencial en algún consulado. No claudiquen y ni se rindan hay que ser perseverantes e incisivos. Saludos!

Given the time constraint of this interview--Hackbarth really does a very fair and good job of contextualizing what is happening with Mexico elections. Obviously details are difficult to give in such time--but another bit of general knowledge that will help casual observers--AMLO is 5 years into his 6 year presidency, and enjoys approval ratings that would be the envy of any US president. We are talking domestic approval north of 80%. The attacks by opposition factions as well as economic interest may be plentiful and vicious (this is serious stuff), but with the popularity AMLO has--it's something akin to a baby duck trying to take on an adult Tiger. Even the all-powerful judicial (Supreme court/Electoral tribunal ) challenges likely won't be enough. Mexico has in-fact already transformed itself into a true democratic country. Not perfect, lots of baggage from 100 years of dictatorship, but it's an impressive gain in just 5 years.

Sigo a Noroña desde hace más de 20 años, espero que para el próximo sexenio ya tenga más madurez diplomática para ser presidente. El es un verdadero político mexicano, en el sentido de velar por los intereses del pueblo, pero Mexico necesito hacer el camino para el, y el necesita templanza, dado que es radical por naturaleza, verdaderamente ha madurado y rumbo a la presidencia.

I have seen the past 6 years this leader has raised minimum wages, help senior citizenwith retirement, help the disabled with income, made corporations pay their part in taxes. Made the Mexican Peso value higher, made Mexico self efficient in oil . This is one of the best leaders that México has had in year.
