      i think so too. i thankfully had a teacher who was opposite. i had a lot of trouble memorizing math formulas so i found my own ways of solving her equations and she always encouraged it and even asked me to demonstrate to the class in case someone else found my way easier. i can only imagine how my math grade would’ve ended up if she didn’t let me do it my way.

      I remember grade 11 basic math.
      I remember typically finding it much easier to condense equations in my head and 'skip steps', sometimes all the written work entirely, because I wanted to put the CORRECT answer on the page.
      I remember being marked 1/5 or 2/5 on questions and consistently failing homework and tests due to putting down the correct answer.
      I remember an argument about this with my teacher. Over the course of this arguement, she stated that (A) It was important for me to understand how to go through the steps (B) it would be important for me to be able to do every minute thing when harder problems come up and (C) that the purpose of her class was to prepare me for later life.
      I shot back that (A) Clearly I did or I wouldn't be consistently giving her the correct answers (B) When the problems get more complex, I jot down checkpoints t keep track of each stage but most of these are so simple it is legitimately easier to do it in my head and (C) You show me one employer out there who would be more concerned I show them every inane step I took to reach their calculation than with me giving them the correct answer.
      Because here's the thing. My ADHD riddle brain would get jumbled and confused when I was forced to slow down and constantly re-examine the same section of the equation 3 times so I can jot down each and every individual step along the way. Inevitably I would make a mistake on some small part of the calculation because you are making me do something I did successfully the first time 3 or 4 times over.... which would result in me getting the wrong answer. And getting 3/5 or 4/5 on a question I ANSWERED INCORRECTLY.
      What >REALLY< aggrivated me, was when the teacher put what I imagine to be a genuine but I couldn't help but read as a condescending 'congratulations' on my test for 'improving', after to demonstrate the issue I did as they asked and scored higher on a test with more than half the final calculations wrong than on the test where I got every calculation correct.... then a bit advising I take more time on my work....
      Which I do.... and proceed to hand in a test that was barely half completed but entirely correct..... and got a note about 'managing my time better'.
      AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY I HATE MATH!

    Sometimes dishes legitimately DO need to be soaked though. Like if there's any caked on bits of food that are hard to get off (like springform cake tins, they're really prone to this), it makes is 10x easier if you let it soak for several hours before washing it. TBF I do my dishes every morning without fail, and possibly again later in the day if necessary. And I live alone. So I get how leaving dishes to soak could be annoying for other people in different situations.

    14:30 that's actually the math curriculum. A 4x6 array is supposed to be taught as "four rows of six". Then after three lesson we have the kids turn their papers sideways to "discover" that 4x6 is actually the same as 6x4. It's one of the stupidest things I've seen and I tell my students that before we start.

      @callummclachlan4771 Рік тому +8

      Yeah. That's a regular criticism of the current education system. Doesn't allow for creative thought for the exact same answers. Despite having so many options (which may actually be better), you have to follow the stupidly specific way the curriculum does it. There's a reason why younger children are generally more creative than adults, they don't have the extremely rigid subconscious thought that's engrained into us.
      When I think about it. I'm sure I've been marked down for reversing numbers. The same exact answer though.
      I'm not anti-education by any stretch (I finished university after all). But the system does need drastic changes. Especially since employers go on about wanting workers who can think creatively).

    8:06 Same thing happened to me today. I found a sink and counter full of dishes and the dishwasher was done so I did both. And then I cleaned the majority of the kitchen and scrubbed out the sink. I leave for around 20 minutes only to find that there is dirty dishes and water all over the counter (the water is from my mother putting the soaking wet sponge on the counter without wringing it out at all). There was also food and dirty dishes on the stove because my dad cooked dinner and didn’t clean up after himself. What makes it even more infuriating is that both my parents preach about cleaning up after ourselves and being clean when they don’t do that themselves a lot of the time.

    Basically when he wanted a higher ups number to complain to, since it wasn't the first time this happened and was maybe the 5th time this happened to him, my coworker came up to ask him if everything was okay.

      @@noobmaster5411 The main reason was to limit obesity. Money has pretty much nothing to with that. Soda and most other non-alcoholic drinks are inexpensive for restaurants. That's why free refills are a quite common practice around the world. What free refills do however is entice you to stay and drink a bunch of sugar cause "might as well make the most of it". This also gives a terrible habit to the youth and is an important factor on why junk food and obesity are so prevalent in the US since there is nothing to prevent such practice. We all know that too much sugar is bad for your health, that sodas have way too much sugar and that sodas and kids are not a good blend. If anything, that law impacted negatively the restaurants that used to offer free refills as they lost a part of their appeal.
      I'm pretty glad that our governement is involved in our well being and regulates such things. And let's be real, we still get way too much soda with our meals anyway, in fast-foods at least.

    13:25 I think it's somewhat well known that Amazon will or at least used to fire you if you didn't hit certain quotas, this obviously doesn't save time but what it does do is ensure the employee can package two things rather than just one and slightly less running around, meaning they'll stay on top of their quotas easier by cheating the system and that is how you get this, I'm assuming the large box was just the smallest thing next to them, otherwise they would have to waste time looking around for a smaller box and yeah I'd probably do the same thing if I had to work at an Amazon warehouse.

    9:29 Okay, I think it's trying to teach transitions like the one from 29 to 30. Between 20 and 29, you gather 10 ones, and you "cash them in" to gain a 10. Thus the 9 goes back down to 0, and the 2_ becomes 3_. So 29 becomes 30.
    Does that make sense? It's kinda difficult to put into words. However, I definitely don't feel like this work sheet did a good job of explaining it.
    I assume it makes more sense, if you've already been taught the intended approach in class, but it still seems needlessly confusing.

    • @achromaticism
      @achromaticism 2 роки тому +4

      Yeah, I was fairly certain the counting was meant to be done with base ten blocks. You pick out ten 1 pieces and switch them out for a 10 piece when applicable, and then switch ten 10-pieces for a 100-piece when you've got ten of those. I used to use them in elementary/mid school.

They intentionally do that, so that when they get delivered or transported via whatever vehicle (trucks, plane, car, etc) they do that so the items would fix in place and avoid breaking them. Sometimes there are open spaces in the vehicle that needs to fill up so it won’t crash/fall and ends up destroying a lot more.
